Ronda says she is going to stick with her shitty coach and his terrible camp.

That alone is going to move the odds significantly even more towards Holm for the rematch. Ronda might end up only fighting one more time in the UFC.

Well, duh. She's gotta move over to boxing and execute Mayweather.

So what do they do if Aldo wins? Do they have him fight Edgar or Mendes again?

of course.....I'm sure that's exactly why/how they promote this so people like me who are on the fence - but with a little extra income in their pocket - will order the fight.

I gotta say though, that McGregor guy talking shit is worth the price of admission lol.

Maybe Max Holloway if he wins.

The White House responded to the Nick Diaz petition.

tl/dr version: This is a state issue, the Federal Government has nothing to do with this. Go talk to Nevada. But hey, it is kinda cool that so many of you banded together to make your voices heard. If you want to know about Marijuana, we responded to those petitions already.

They should make Nick fight Nate for reinstatement.

I'm honestly more intrigued by that fight than Aldo/McGregor...the Jacare/Romero title eliminator should be a helluva fight too.

Can't wait for this PPV, first one I'm ordering in a quite a while.

alnorth 12-09-2015 07:02 PM

For those who don't know, there are also fights tomorrow and Friday, so 3 nights of UFC fight cards in a row. (Thursday is fightpass only, no TV. Friday is FS1)

Friday is pretty nice for a free card. Not great, but pretty nice. The last two fights are really good and important for the title picture in those weight classes.

Thursday is.... eh, but if you are watching on Thursday then it means you are a crazy UFC fan who bought fightpass, so you have nothing to complain about. Tomorrow night's card has a couple interesting fights, mostly young potential rising stars, one of them finally facing a test. Sage Northcutt is being brought along slowly, and is fighting another tomato can who he should crush. In the main event, PVZ is finally facing her first real opponent and we'll see what she's got.

Saturday's PPV is completely F'ing absurd, obviously.

Also, Aljamain Sterling on the prelims of that card.

oh, nice! Why isn't that fight on the main card, its buried deep enough in the prelims that I overlooked it. Anyway, it would be a poor free TV card, but its not bad at all for a fightpass card

thabear04 12-09-2015 11:07 PM

UFC 200 holms vs rousey rematch

alnorth 12-10-2015 08:28 PM

Holy Crap, Sage Northcutt is crazy-ripped. Wonder if USADA has tested him yet.

edit: In the few months he's been in the UFC, he's already been tested 3 times. So, I guess USADA was also curious after seeing his insane arms and abs.

He is either very good at evading detection, lives in the gym, or both.

alnorth 12-10-2015 09:18 PM

The odds for Aldo/McGregor are now even, both are at -115. I got in with Aldo +150

*smug*

alnorth 12-10-2015 09:44 PM

Time to watch Sage destroy another can on his slow steady path to UFC greatness.

ZootedGranny 12-10-2015 09:47 PM

Northcutt is going to take a flamethrower to Pfister, but I'm rooting for Cody just because of the Embedded. Sage is with his waspy family (including weirdo coke/steroid dealing dad) decorating a Christmas tree in their McMansion while Cody is eating sad salads alone in his apartment with his cat.

ZootedGranny 12-10-2015 09:55 PM

Pfister wasn't doing any damage, but that standup by the ref was brutal.

jd1020 12-10-2015 09:55 PM

That was a questionable decision by the ref to stand them up.

alnorth 12-10-2015 09:57 PM

That was really ****ing impressive. The UFC needs to stop babying Sage, give him a real opponent.

In his first fight we saw Northcutt's striking, in this second fight we saw that he's got serious ground game and BJJ. My God, he's only 19. Unless he pops for steroids, he's got a career in the UFC. This kid might be the lightweight champion someday.

alnorth 12-10-2015 10:33 PM

here we go. We're gonna learn a lot about PVZ soon.

ZootedGranny 12-10-2015 10:36 PM

I was already rooting for Rose, and then she comes out to Run the Jewels. Incredible.

alnorth 12-10-2015 10:46 PM

wow. Rose WRECKED PVZ in round 1. Paige might be overhyped

alnorth 12-10-2015 10:49 PM

lol, even when PVZ gets the takedown, she's immediately reversed. There's a lot she's got to learn.

alnorth 12-10-2015 10:50 PM

PVZ is really damn tough though and might have better striking. This fight has become really interesting. We'll see what their conditioning is like.... and PVZ is on her back again

alnorth 12-10-2015 10:52 PM

Rose is up 20-18 on my scorecard. PVZ probably needs a finish, but she's clearly not the better grappler. Strawweights not named Joanna don't get knockouts, so I don't see how she wins this.

ZootedGranny 12-10-2015 10:52 PM

Rose is picking her apart standing, and is the superior scrambler. A thrashing thus far. Also, round one was possibly 10-8.

alnorth 12-10-2015 10:55 PM

PVZ is getting wrecked. Her first real challenge and she's getting crushed.

I could have definitely seen Rose winning this fight, but I didn't think it would be so one-sided. PVZ has a lot to learn.

jd1020 12-10-2015 10:57 PM

Good thing for Page her face was lubed up with her own blood.

alnorth 12-10-2015 10:57 PM

oh God, they need to stop this. Rose almost choked her out, she wouldn't tap.

PVZ is too tough, her corner needs to keep her from getting hurt.

alnorth 12-10-2015 10:58 PM

I have round 3 10-8, so 30-26 for Rose

ZootedGranny 12-10-2015 10:59 PM

PVZ looking like Joe Stevenson against BJ Penn.

alnorth 12-10-2015 11:00 PM

wow, PVZ's armbar defense is good. She might be a contender someday, but she's clearly too green right now.

ZootedGranny 12-10-2015 11:01 PM

WTFFFF @ not tapping on that. Jesus.

alnorth 12-10-2015 11:02 PM

oh GOD, what? I thought Rose broke her arm because she wouldn't tap, but I guess not?

PVZ is a warrior. Probably to a stupid extreme, but she's tough.

I cringed so hard thinking this young strawweight was about to get her arm broke because of stupid pride, but then it didn't break somehow.

alnorth 12-10-2015 11:06 PM

Barring a miracle, Rose is going to win a big, dominating decision. PVZ is now fighting for pride and not getting finished.

alnorth 12-10-2015 11:07 PM

PVZ finally tapped. 5th round, PVZ gassed (with probably sore arms) and Rose had that choke just undeniably locked in. PVZ had to tap or go to sleep.

ZootedGranny 12-10-2015 11:07 PM

Hell yeah.

Hopefully they tweet the scorecards for that fight later tonight. I could easily see 50-43 if not 50-42. A complete domination. PVZ is tougher than I gave her credit for.

alnorth 12-10-2015 11:14 PM

That was an awesome fight. If it went the distance it may have been 50-43, Rose just destroyed that young rising star.

I know that the obvious fight is Joanna Champion vs Claudia Gadelha, but with this impressive destruction of PVZ, I think "thug" Rose has to get the next shot at the winner of that fight.

ZootedGranny 12-10-2015 11:19 PM

I say give Gadhela another shot at Joanna, and give Namajunas a rematch against Torres if she wins on Saturday.

That sounds like a great plan. Its never a good idea to keep your second contender on ice for half a year, just let them fight and figure out what the next fight should be on the fly.

If the brutal, deadly Polish chick keeps her belt and Rose beats Torres, then we've got a fight that is at least worthy of being a high-profile PPV co-main

alnorth 12-10-2015 11:39 PM

I just don't understand the haters who say that women's MMA is not entertaining, I loved that fight, it was great. I really don't see a difference between a flyweight or bantamweight men's fight, and a women's top-10 MMA fight.

alnorth 12-11-2015 05:05 PM

UFC 194 weigh-ins have started

alnorth 12-11-2015 05:38 PM

Everyone made weight. The staredown was tame by Conor's standards.

edit: Aldo hilariously mocked McGregor's usual fight stance

Jerm 12-11-2015 06:30 PM

Aldo looks so relaxed...have a feeling he's gonna put on an absolute clinic tomorrow night.

Yesterday at the press conference Conor bowed to Jose after their staredown. He's also a lot calmer in these interviews.

I think it's finally hit him that he's fighting one of the best p4p fighters who has had about a year to prepare for him.

He's reportedly been acting very different from this "calm before battle" thing he's been telling reporters. Backstage before the weigh-in, Conor was relentlessly yelling and trash-talking at Aldo just 10 feet away, while Aldo just ignored him and looked ahead.

edit: here's that arm bar that PVZ refused to tap to that we were freaking out about last night.

The gonzaga fight? That was like a prime Jon Fitch type fight.

ZootedGranny 12-11-2015 09:13 PM

I think Mendes can stuff enough of Edgar's takedowns to keep it standing long enough to eventually catch him with his power, especially with the small cage again. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if Edgar wins a decision.

I think Ferguson is too smart to stay in Barboza's range. I think he'll crack Edson and then submit him late.

alnorth 12-11-2015 09:35 PM

Here's a thought: do you guys think we could start a UFC 194 thread?

I don't think most UFC events should get their own thread because there's really not many of us who care, but this one is so overhyped that it may be the exception to the rule. Tomorrow's card is basically the "super bowl" for the UFC this year. I was talking to people at work today who don't follow MMA AT ALL, and even they all heard of Conor McGregor and were sort of curious about how he'd fare, so his notoriety has clearly broken out of our small MMA circle and into general pop culture. Hell, boxing fans had their stupid Mayweather threads, so I think we should have at least one thread a year too.

If the rest of you don't think the idea is stupid, I can start the thread after midnight.

SPchief 12-11-2015 09:41 PM

Eh, how many people will participate? I know some like me will be at a bar watching. You'd might get better results if you hold off until 200 and might try and get some casuals into it.

200 is July, and the headliner (Rousey Holm II) is less compelling than 194. 200 should probably also get its own thread, but that would sort of fit into the "one thread a year" vibe I'm thinking the UFC should get. Boxing gets a few threads a year here.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea. Just wondering how much of a crowd you'd get. Like I said, I'll be at a bar watching.

alnorth 12-11-2015 09:54 PM

I think I'm gonna go ahead and do it, with the understanding that this should probably be a once a year thing. I know some people will troll us, but whats the worst that could happen? 3 pages and not much activity? The sun will still rise on Sunday and we'll still have seen cool fights.

Jerm 12-11-2015 10:33 PM

I'm down....

alnorth 12-11-2015 10:34 PM

OK, I've got our thread prepped and ready to go. I'll post it at 12:01.

ZootedGranny 12-11-2015 11:05 PM

Ferguson was forcing the action in the first, but I'd give it to Barboza for constantly countering him. A possible 10-8 round because of the deduction.

ZootedGranny 12-11-2015 11:06 PM

Wow! Great fight.

alnorth 12-11-2015 11:09 PM

That was an awesome fight.

Important fights coming up next...

ZootedGranny 12-11-2015 11:17 PM

Followup post to last night's main event:

No judge scored a 10-8 round until the 3rd, Glenn Trowbridge didn't score a single round 10-8.

SPchief 12-11-2015 11:58 PM

This should be a hell of a fight. Always respected Mendes and Country Boy is a great song so even better.

ZootedGranny 12-12-2015 12:06 AM

I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING.

Absolutely.

After what you did for the Royals this year you should be able to start any damn thread you want. You could also ask for predictions for each main card fight to get discussion going.

Agreed. That ring looked like that last place he wanted to be. Crazy a guy with that many career fights let McGregor get to him.

alnorth 12-14-2015 10:54 AM

I know that Aldo always looks down during introductions and never looks at his opponent until the fight starts, thats just his thing so I wasn't concerned about that, but he looked really nervous at the final check.
