There's a good article on MyGolfSpy about it. The basic premise is this: TM releases the R1. Vendors pay $290 for it, plus shipping. It's originally marked at $399. It doesn't sell that well, so TM announces a price cut. Now it's $349, then $299 after only a few months. So you have to blow through your entire inventory in very, very little time, or turn basically no margin on that. Combine that with the fact that TM was pumping out five or six driver models a year, and you have a toxic atmosphere. Example, 2014: SLDR 430, SLDR 460, SLDR White, SLDR mini, Jetspeed Compare that to Ping or Titleist, whose clubs are not eligible for mass retailer discounts and undergo structured reductions in their prices (after 1 year the G400 goes from $399 to $299, etc.) |
I quit paying attention to TM when they started doing that shit.

Decided to cut work early yesterday and hit the course for only the third time this year with a couple of buddies. I got lucky and sucked back a 9 iron (it hit about 4' beyond and just to the left of the hole) for my first ever hole in one. The rest of the round was pretty unremarkable, but I may not forget that shot for a while.

I have been looking for this for over 20 years. Last night, it showed up in my YouTube suggestions.

So John Daly is playing in the PGA Championship at Bethpage on a cart. Will he be the next oldster to win a major? Can he even break 100 on this track? Bum knee and diabetes. Never forget his surprise win at the PGA

People mocking Tiger for having 31 putts. Shit, that's a good day of putting if you ask me.
They should have a fun fake tournament in the middle of the summer. The NO PUTT tournament. Make tinny tiny sand greens say 30 feet wide. Once you hit the green. You are done. Think how quick golf & fun golf would be. Putting is so dumb. Who gives a shit. |
I'm horrible at golf, but my son LOVES it. What's the best beginner friendly set of irons I can get for myself for around $200? Like I say I need something very forgiving.

Looks like 4 majors in his last 8 major starts now for Koepka (with a T2, T6, and T13 in 3 others). Only Tiger/Jack have ever had a stretch like it. Beginning to look like his relative struggles in the non-majors might be because he just doesn't care as much. It's certainly no coincidence. How many does he end up with?

Those Ping I500 you see in the photo by Hamas are beautiful, but you do not want them. Besides having a thin top line, the sweet spot will be smaller, so if you don't hit it perfect, you'll lose most of your distance. I started playing when I was 12 in 1962 and then when I joined the Army in '70 I didn't play again until 2009. So I had a long layoff and equipment has changed immensely. Actually the equipment is much better. I found Taylormade (listed as TM sometimes) makes some nice irons by adding a face slot and a speed slot. The face slot basically makes the entire face a sweet spot. For the past two years I've been using these Taylormade PSi 1's. https://scontent-mia3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...fc&oe=5D6C8E35 I just traded them in at Christmas for a set of TM M-4's. I had made the mistake of buying graphite shafts. Since I'm almost 69, I thought I made need the lighter shafts. I play golf every week and go to the gym 3 days a week, so my strength is still good. The M-4 are newer irons, the M-6's just came out, so I got a good deal on the M-4's. You might look for a used set of PSi 1's like I had, they have the larger sweet spot with face slots. Check eBay, make sure the seller has big feedback, like 20,000 or more and 99.8% or better. I buy most of my clubs on eBay, just make sure of the seller. A popular set that's been around for a long time and you can probably get for $150 or less is Ping Eye 2 irons. They have a large face, probably a set from the 1990's. The colored dots that are relative to the players height. Like I'm 5'9", so I believe I would use a black dot, and there is a actual colored dot on the back of the irons. If you see a set, go to the Ping website and look up your height and color. Any major brand would work, as long as they say game improvement irons. Go to a Dick's Sporting goods, Golf Galaxy, a PGA store, any of the big chains and they should have clubs you can hit into a net and they can give you advice, of course they'll trying to sell you brand new clubs for $500 or more. |

Deeppurple gave him a wealth of good info. If he can trust ebay its a great option. Another good option is scour the thrift stores you can find great sets for little. Estate sales is another option but I warn the people who run those know the value in the set and may not find a great bargain like at thrift or garage sales. |
This course looks like a mother****er. Even Koepka is giving shots back today.
Spieth is making ridiculous par saves. I like this Varner kid, even if he's having a tough go of it today. |
Quote:
Good point. Totally read that as his kid. Adams Idea 12 OS is another option that is forgiving and less than 200 dollars with hybrids instead of long irons |
Holy hell, Koepka just blasted his tee shot on 7. Just ****ing crushed it.
|
It's not like this course is playing easy. 10th place right now is +1, but Koepka is making it look easy.
|
Playing in wind like that is so hard. On a parkland course with deep rough it's near impossible.
|
Koepka is trying to pull a Norman here.
|
Well well, we might have a tournament now. Going to be a slog for Koepka coming in.
|
30 yards over the par 3 dude is looking about 4 bogeys in a row.
|
Feel horrible for Koepka. He can't do anything right now.
|
he is leaking shots
needs to step it up |
Still a long way to go. I never thought at any point today it would be a 1 shot lead though. Koepka is bleeding out all over the course. This is turning into a US Open.
|
Brooks Van de Koepka
|
Koepka is peeing down his leg, and DJ goes over the green into the thick stuff. Bad miss there.
|
And DJ just giving it right back.
|
This course is impossible, guys.
|
Yeah that should seal it for Koepka. That par seems to have settled him a little.
|
With winds like this on a links course you can keep it low and let the baked turf and slow greens keep it humane. Here you have to play target golf in a four club wind. This isn't a choke, just brutal conditions.
|
wow DJ is just shanking shit out of the bunker.

Its a shame that brooks does not even like golf that much. I mean when you look at his physical attributes and his overall package that he brings to the game, he could be a poor mans tiger.
But because he is so standoffish, acts like he does not care about golf, not warm to the fans, shows zero emotion on the golf course, on and on. Basically is a bit of a douche when he plays. If he just changed his fuc*ing personality and came across as someone who LOVED golf and couldn't get enough of it, maybe talked about how he loves to do things with kids charities and smiled more. and for Gods sake, show a little emotion on the course, the guy could be a full blown superstar. Its just a shame when someone with this much talent comes along once every ten years or so and its just wasted because the rest of the package is so unbelievably awful. |
Hey everyone, I'm just now getting caught up reading this thread. Thanks for all of the EXCELLENT advice. I did mean clubs for myself....not my son.
I appreciate everyone that took time to weigh in. Thanks! |

I can't imagine the amount of pressure Brooks is playing under, it's not a team sport, it's only you. When the NY crowd began chanting for DJ while Brooks is trying make a putt to save par, the pressure of blowing a 7 shot lead, I think remaining cool, calm and collected has worked for Brooks so far, I like him just the way he is. https://i0.wp.com/www.rep-am.com/wp-...6859.jpg?ssl=1 https://s.yimg.com/uu/api/res/1.2/FP...1007f0c99.jpeg https://www.mcall.com/resizer/XcNxm1...LADQMJ6SNM.jpg https://usatgolfweek.files.wordpress...0&h=460&crop=1 |

McIlroy needs to birdie the last to shoot 59 (granted, it's on a 70). He's got an eight shot lead.
That pussy shit bitch Kuchar played his normal gutless weekend rounds to ensure a top 10. |
Rory is running away with Canadian Open today, so I switched over and watched the ladies play in the Shoprite. It was a great finish. Lexi Thompson drained an eagle putt on 18 to hold off Jeongeun Lee6 and win by 1. Lee6 had a shot at an eagle on 18 as well, but it had to be 80 feet. She gave it a go, but missed by a foot or two. Fun end to that tourney.
Gratuitous pics of Lexi, because she's hot as balls - https://i.pinimg.com/736x/d2/a0/d1/d...ed2e47474e.jpg [img] |

I heard one of the talking heads saying how Rory was just consistently outdriving Kuchar*, and on one hole by over 100 yards, and how you can't compete if you can't keep up off the box. Rory proved him right today. *maybe he was talking about Webb, but I would have sworn it was Kuchar |

Third round of the US Open starting to look like an open. Gary Woodland was about 4 strokes ahead but now is only up 2 ahead of Rose. Of course Brooks Koepka is making a run.

Kuchar is definitely going to play conservative over the next 20 holes, finish in the top 5 in another major and Hamas is going to destroy him again for being soft. LMAO
I wonder if Woodland will choke tomorrow. |

LMAO Or not. Woodland out here dropping par saves from deep all over the place.
|
I am flabbergasted that guys have been dropping so many long putts on poa greens.
Also, as much as the ball and club have impacted scoring, I think Trackman is just as big of a contributor. When you know the *exact* numbers you need to and do fly everything, it makes golf more formulaic, which significantly improves consistency. The days of par winning the US Open are over for good. |
It’s bullshit how they piss and loan that’s its too hard if they’re not shooting 8 under

Let's go Gary Woodland...if he's ever going to win one. This is gonna be it.
