Published: January 03, 2013 @ 3:51pm For a brief moment in time it appeared Andy Reid was going to be the next head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. Then Reid interviewed with the Kansas City Chiefs, and that idea flew out the window. Word leaked early Thursday that Reid to the Chiefs was 'imminent', and that the Cardinals were in turn setting their sights on other options. Given that it appears Arizona may have been used as leverage, people are wondering if the Cardinals "got played" by the Reid camp. "I think they just got beat, more than anything else," ESPN NFL insider John Clayton told Arizona Sports 620's Doug and Wolf Thursday, noting a deal is not officially done yet. "I think you can see where structure wasn't going to work." Clayton said Reid will have more freedom in Kansas City than he would have in Arizona, as Cardinals president Michael Bidwill is also searching for a new general manager as well as a coach. It's been reported that Reid would like to bring his own general manager along, and that may not have jived with what Arizona wanted to do. But still, Reid had every intention of chatting with the Cardinals. "Now, he planned to come out (to Arizona)," Clayton added. "Went nine hours [Wednesday], it went well. John Clayton, ESPN NFL insider "Then they get up this morning and they start hashing things out and according to a source, when Andy started going over what they talked about he said 'that sounds good to me.'" Clayton said Reid and the Chiefs are now in the stage of working out contract numbers, figuring the coach will make around $7.5 to $8 million along with having plenty of control over personnel, which is a number the Cardinals may not have wanted any part of. "That's why he called and cancelled the flights, and he still left it open for if things fall apart that he can go there, but he's going to end up in Kansas City." Big buck$ |

Pioli is better represented as: "Roose Bolton is the head of House Bolton and Lord of the Dreadfort. Though mild-mannered, he is cold, calculating, and capable of great cruelty. He speaks softly, never raising his voice, forcing those who listen to do so intently.[2] He receives regular leechings, which he believes to improve his health, prompting some to call him "The Leech Lord". |

UPDATE: Nothing official yet as of Thursday afternoon, but the Reid-Chiefs pairing remains on the verge of happening. There is an update on the men he'll bring along as co-workers however: ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reports that Reid is not demanding that Tom Heckert come along as his GM, via sources. Those sources also indicate that Green Bay's director of operations, John Dorsey, is also on Reid's wish list for GM in K.C. Until Reid is officially announced as HC, we're still in the fuzzy speculative phase here, but the dominoes appear ready to begin falling soon. |

The coolest part of all of this?
THIS BOARD is fully responsible for it because if we never banded together to form SOC, Pioli would have been able to hire another coach and waste more of our time. |

here's the rest of it guess i didn't select it all...
The Kansas City Chiefs' interview with Andy Reid ended up going long on Wednesday, which is why he didn't travel out to Arizona that evening in preparation for a meeting with the Cardinals. Thursday morning, our Chris Mortensen indicated during an appearance on "Mike and Mike in the Morning" that the two sides were trying to close a deal, and later on Thursday morning, Mortensen and ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported that the two sides are on the verge of a deal. Going on the hypothetical that this deal gets done, what should we expect regarding Reid's coaching and front office staff? The ongoing buzz has been that if Reid is in, current Chiefs GM Scott Pioli would be out. That would leave a vacancy that some believe would be filled by Tom Heckert, who was fired by the Browns this week and worked with Reid in Philadelphia. In fact, a source has revealed to the Cleveland Plain Dealer that this is Reid's intention. As for coaches, the Plain Dealer is also reporting that Reid would have the opportunity to bring along Pat Shurmur and Brad Childress, who recently served as HC and OC of the Browns, respectively. Others from the Reid coaching tree (in Philly and elsewhere) could also be considered. Hey, maybe there's an opening at DC for Juan Castillo. |

Some thoughts on who the GM and coaches may be. Childress/Shurmur as well as Heckert/Gamble/Dorsey at GM or personnel roles. |

Gotcha...That makes more sense now. I own it. Can you blame me for feeling that way, though?
This isn't my first dance with this team and over the years they have squandered these types of opportunities to better the franchise. |

Contracts take time folks. This is probably a 20 million dollar a year transaction, its not going to be done in 15 minutes. We are not just signing one coach, this is about control of the football operation, budgets for assistant coaches, and additional front office people.

It is common knowledge the Bidwells are cheap. The Bidwells have kept the coaching staff and team on the low end of the NFL payroll through much of their existence. |

Nothing about this team excites me anymore. I watch every game, and will never be a fan of any other professional football team, but I just can't get excited about any of the Chiefs off season moves or draft picks. I'm glad that Clark is doing something, but I won't get excited unless we start out next season 4-0 or something. That being said... it will be a relief to see some change in KC.

Shannahan is KCs new coach...Clark said he wants Manning and we have the best talent to get him...they can't chose Grbac over Gannon...we are gonna upgrade the quarterback competition...
I don't think it was far fetched to bring up the topic that we would get high hopes for Reid, only to have them crushed yet again. |
