Ain't this some fat gay bear shit!
It's pretty damn good though... https://i.imgur.com/sVer3Ik.jpg https://i.imgur.com/JuAw0OQ.jpg |
I was lucky enough to get to try a can of Revolution Blackberry Finn. It was a genuine ****ing pleasure. Please ignore the use of the pint glass. I was in the man cave in my back building, and it was cold outside. I didn't feel like walking to the house for a proper glass.
The pint glass mattered none, though. I've been able to try a number of cans from Revolution's barrel program, and I can't remember many that were tailored towards my taste buds like this one. I'm a weirdo that prefers barrel-aged barleywines over barrel-aged stouts, and blackberry is one of my favorite fruits. I'd eat it on a daily basis if the seeds weren't so ****ing bothersome. So, a BA Barleywine aged with blackberries sounds like a dream to me. The can lived up to the hype in my mind as well. Even with barleywines, I prefer a subtle barrel. Or at least a barrel that doesn't completely overpower any adjuncts in the beer. I was a bit nervous about that after taking a sniff, because I smelled mostly barrel. But man, when I took a sip, there was subtle barrel and the fruit hit so hard. It might have been 60/40 fruit to barrel as the glass warmed. I don't know how else to describe it except as fantastic. And that color is gorgeous. Man. An absolute pleasure. A standout beer from 2021 for sure. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...d356d49e04.jpg |
Sounds amazing, don't think I've had a blackberry beer before.
And nothing wrong with a pint glass, even though I do get fancy from time to time. |

Blackberry is a great fruit. As I mentioned in my post, though, the seeds are annoying af. I figure that's why it's not used as much as other fruits in cooking. I had a blackberry pie once that was one of the best pies I've tasted, but I couldn't finish it because of the damn seeds getting stuck in my teeth. Marcellus sent me a homebrew blackberry saison years ago that was great as well. I do wish more breweries would utilize the fruit. |

Tried Parish Rêve yesterday and it was quite tasty. I'm obviously not a lighter stout kind of guy, but was impressed with that one.

Stopped in for some liquid lunch while out by O'hare today.
Press Play is a collab with Voodoo (pictured in glass). Thiccc hazelnut brownie batter. In Unison is a BA stout/barleywine blend. https://i.imgur.com/FaaRTuU.jpg?1 |
For my own Christmas gift, I purchased a 12-case of Birra Nursia bionda, available here: https://birranursia.com/
https://www.beeroftheday.com/photos/...nda-2195_0.jpg The beer is made by Benedictine monks in Italy. If you like Weihenstephaner Vitus, I think you would like this beer. |

They are 750 ml bottles. I'm not a big beer drinker. I like something refreshing and light and subtle hints of fruit. It smells good. |

For the KC locals, any good beer spots open late on a Saturday? Landing at 9:45pm on Sat, and wouldn't mind hitting up a good spot for a few - any recommendations?

Brought some great beer for tailgates and Proprietor's BCS for a celebratory sipper.... it's fantastic, with a lot of strawberry. Can't think of any other strawberry beers I've tried (Samuel Smith has one, but pretty sure I've never tried it), but this one us on point. Or "fire" as the kids would say.
|
Had some great beer in KC.... really enjoyed Taps on Main and Oak & Steel as both have a great selection of beer and bourbon (granted, it was all beer for the week).
Oak & Steel had Main & Mill Valentine's Daze, which just happened to be another strawberry stout after the BCS Proprietors. Not sure there's anything quite like ToM/O&S in Arizona, but haven't really looked for bourbon selection on top of a tap list. KCU also brought 3 Floyds Marshmallow Handjee to last weekend's tailgate, plus another I'm not recalling at the moment.... and along with OTWP's bourbon selection, it was a pretty ****ing great tailgate. As for tonight... https://i.imgur.com/6i7eYpb.jpg |
Parish Braincake Double IPA.
Strata and Cashmere aren't my preferred hops, but I'm a Parish Stan, and they do everything pretty damn well.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b18ced47c6.jpg |

Next time your going to any in Scottsdale, especially the one in North Scottsdale, let me know and I'll meet up for some sampling. |

I should probably branch out and try their other beers, but their Ales of the Crypt is world class and I can never pass up one (or a few :D ). |
Speaking of all those things... was very surprised to see Peanut Butter Bananarchy on the shelves and grabbed a regular one as well. Grabbed a Drekker collab (the only one I saw besides an IPA). And first time seeing TG Strawberry Shortcake, which is once again so much on point.
Prior to KC, I couldn't name one strawberry beer I've ever tried... and now in a matter of about two weeks there's been BCS Proprietor's, Main & Mill Valentine's (or whatever it's called), and now this one. https://i.imgur.com/6PzDt85.jpg https://i.imgur.com/lc2BA3Q.jpg |

This one is a 'gently roll the can' varieties... something I failed to do last week with the ~5 month old Down with the Thiccness, which came out half lager/half snot. Still very good though. :D |
Unlike with Bottle Logic, the heavy Modern Times stouts rarely make it to Arizona... and if anything, I see less now than 5 years ago.
Heavy, thick, bold, and quite delicious. https://i.imgur.com/nKechnl.jpg |

First beer since the AFCCG then breaking my leg 4 days later. What a shit week that was. Popped one to celebrate being cleared to go back to work tomorrow, imagine that.
Anywho, these distributed barrel aged releases from 3 Floyds are straight money. Crushing Mass was one of my surprise beers of the year last year and now Cocomungo hit shelves. Coconut and maple with a year in Willet barrels. https://i.imgur.com/CUr8r6R.jpg?1 |

Opened a 2016 Bourbon County Barleywine.. was just thinking the other day I still have that toasted barrel variant to open. |

We should land in the desert the first week of May. Just have to find a place to live in the meantime. |

It was 105 the entire first week as we were moving ourselves into our rental and getting stuff around town. I thought I had made a mistake. ROFL. |
I think it's time for a get together over by Lewdog.
What place? I'm interested in expanding my beer palate. Sone of these recent beers looks great. I'll bring the cigars |

Damn dude, congrats! :toast: The market is insane, was just talking to a realtor the other day who said people are bypassing inspections on top of paying cash, so shit's getting done in a matter of like 2 or 3 weeks. Good luck on finding a place... you were saying Scottsdale/Tempe/Mesa-ish, IIRC? |
Wasn't sure what to expect. Unique taste. But I didn't really like it.

We're looking in Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler and even as far southeast as Queen Creek. I love the amenities of a city like Chicago but am ready for the deep suburban life. I'll definitely miss the beer scene here but am planning to shift my focus to building out a home brewery and outdoor kitchen with the added space I'll have (not that PHX/AZ doesn't have great beer). Plus road trips to San Diego. Also had my last Half Acre Benthic Extra Dubl last night  https://i.imgur.com/6NoXaHc.jpg?1 |

Side note, I'm allso hearing good things about Caldwell County BBQ in Gilbert if anyone can corroborate. before I get my hopes up. Riverlands BA Orbital Velocity to celebrate. https://i.imgur.com/wdwlBEc.jpg?1 |

We'll have to do a Phoenix meet up when you're settled. Beer looks amazing, too. Probably best to continue setting the bar low for Arizona BBQ and then potentially be pleasantly surprised. |

Hope we can all meet up for beers. Downtown Gilbert is a fun place to go - Pomo Pizzeria is good. |

Good point on the BBQ. The wife was there yesterday and enjoyed it but she's also the type who orders the turkey option at BBQ spots. Starting to empty the bench. https://i.imgur.com/I00F9oQ.jpg?2 |

I am absolutely up for helping you landscape and plant some cool trees. It's really not hard once you know what can be done and a good watering schedule. All of my shit is on automatic bubblers/drippers because there are weeks where I can't attend to things. And no, don't even really look for BBQ here. It's just not worth it. |

It's good, it really is like a fruit smoothie. I assume KC gets Drekker, they have similar thiccc beers. |
My local shop had 16 oz cans of Term Oil S’mores. Picked up 1, $19.99
|
Decided to try this today. I like Micheladas and the mango addition is pretty good while still getting spices of the Clamato. I'll definitely drink this again.

I've wondered about the cost to make something like that and then the mark up along the way... talking with a a guy who buys kegs at the local beer store, they're barely making anything off a keg like that, which is kind of crazy. |
We got a drop of 450 North Slushy’s last week. $10 per 16oz can.
|
The Bruery makes a ton of 13%+ stouts and you have to visit LA to try/buy most of them... they're only about a mile from Bottle Logic though, which makes for a fun day. :D
