Just about ready to cry re: Ventura's elbow injury. It's the Royals; no way this ends up with any other outcome than TJ surgery.

Anyone here been to the Negro League Museum?

Does anyone really believe Zimmer's been OK to pitch all this time? Anyone?

I have to agree that there is something wrong within the coaching chain on this team, offensively. We know the guys we have can perform better and have seen them do so. They are being allowed to do something they shouldn't be or otherwise told do so something they shouldn't be.
Either way we have seen Hos, Gordon, BB and Perez all do much better than they are now. When it's one or two people you can hang it on the players. When it's an entire team under-performing then you have to look at the coaching chain and the message being sent to them. |

So, how many homers do the Stroh's hit off Guthrie tonight? Nice to see we're leading the league in some type of home run category.

Someone needs to perform an animal sacrifice on home plate. Or the pitching mound perhaps.

The Glass family could give a flying f**k about winning the AL Central. It's about money. Attendance is down. So GMDM better start thinking about the next shiny object to add to the outfield pavilion. Maybe a waterslide or wading pool for the kiddies. Maybe brass stripper poles -with strippers- in the Rivals Bar.... something.... ANYTHING to sell tickets.
Oh, and finding a third baseman who can hit over .200, a starting DH and First Baseman who can hit more than ONE HR in two months, that would be OK too. Not a priority or anything. Just if you have time to get around to it. |

Now Zimmer is dealing with a lat strain I seen.

Blowing leads, hitting nothing but singles, and "adjustable pricing" on tickets will do that. I'll bet their TV ratings are about the same. I'm sure there'll be plenty of Cardinal fans, Yankee fans and Red Sox fans here later in the year to boost our numbers. Come watch your team kick our team in the ass.
Same as it ever was. |

The Royals were epicly terrible for 15+ years before last season, one fluke year aside in 2003. That drives attendance down (and season ticket sales). The Royals had a absolutely horrible month of May that squashed a lot of expectations quickly. They eventually dug out of that whole, but June and July attendance suffered because of that hole. From a business perspective, there are tons of examples of sports teams that make money by spending money. There's one in this city, in fact. Who knows what Glass will do? I certainly didn't expect payroll to increase this much this year, and he has been surprising many with his willingness to spend since Moore got here. Part of me thinks he would look at handing over a record payroll to a GM who had been here for a LONG time and not gotten it done, and maybe say "It's time to go a different direction." Moore has wheedled a lot more money out of Glass and co. over the years, with nothing to show for it. He'll either see that as a sign Moore must go or as a sign that spending money is worthless. It's the ROyals, so it likely would be the latter. |

You know, if we throw pitching out of the mix, the only player I think that has improved so far this year is Escobar. He's been clutch on defense, he's hit better, done OK in the number two hole when Omar was out. He's maturing as a real major league shortstop both on offense and defense.
Around the horn otherwise: Hosmer: His defense has always been good. No home run power. None. Hits a lot of doubles, still has a big looping swing. Omar: Good when he's healthy. Getting hit in the face pretty much derailed his first two months. Moose: Enjoy the world class zoo in Omaha, you pop up machine. Gordon: Great defense again this year, inconsistent at the plate. Not as bad as Hosmer and Billay, spotty power but too few and far between. LoCain: Flashes of brilliance on defense. Can't play more than four weeks or so without getting hurt. Has to stay healthy to be a factor. So far, missed too many games. Doesn't hit for much power either as an outfielder. Aoki: Can't hit much on the road, poorest fielder and arm of all our outfielders. Dink, slap, Texas league hitter. At least he'll take a walk, but he hasn't been as good of a leadoff guy as Alex Gordon. Salvie: His defense hasn't been as good this year. Pass balls, wild throws, etc. But he calls a great game and is light years better than whatever #2 guy they throw in there. Injury bug again this year. Banged and bruised up because he's a big guy and big target behind the plate. Batting average has waivered around .250. He should hit for more power too. He's been hitting into DPs more often lately. Belly: He's fat. He's slow. He doesn't walk as much as last year. He has the same, weak ass warning track power. A lot of last years doubles are singles this year because he's too damn fat to make it to second. He looks like a 40 year old Harmon Killebrew, and he's not even 30 yet. I was hoping he'd be the Royals version of Jim Thome, but he's more like a current version of Bob Hamelin. Hell, I bet a 40 year old Hammer could have hit more than one home run by now. And probably wouldn't have hit into as many DP's either. Looks like another .500 season, if the pitching doesn't implode. |
Anything on Ventura yet?

Also, fans like offense. This team is frustratingly bad. |
GMDM on MLB network radio says that Ventura will only miss one start.

610 said Ventura looks to be out one start.

Two have only been to the postseason Once in that time span -Pittsburgh (last year) and Miami (Winning the World Series in 2003). All the others have been in the post-season on multiple occasions during The Glass family reign. |

He has owned the team for over 20 years and the team has not made the playoff in his tenure. He has operated the club for profit over the course of his entire tenure. Now, he is pushing 80. I don't think it is too far fetched to say that the intent this year was to win just enough to revitalize the interest in the club enough that he could ride the windfall into his grave or an inflated sale of the team. Meanwhile, an entire generation (28 going on 29 years of fail) of the market has been disenfranchised leaving an aged and dwindling fan-base. The team will inevitably have to move upon the sale of the team simply because it has no fan-base to lose and it would be more profitable in a larger market. So the sun will set on the KC Royals, until the next round of MLB expansion. Good night, sweet Royal's fans. Our loyalty shall not be returned in the form of a championship, but will be sequestered unto the pockets of the Glass family. One final gasp to fill the Glass Family Coffers - and at the expense of thousands of tormented fans. |
Keep doing what you're doing Royals.....and we will continue stealing your fanbase

Royals Road Back To .500: Part X
My Road to seeing a Royals win live: Part VIII Last year, my first game I saw in KC, Guthrie gave up like 7 runs and was out by the 4th inning. Hoping for a drastic improvement tonight. And some runs, that'd be pretty cool. |
