Yep.

Brett's here, legitimate, and sensible for a quick band-aid. But it's such a transparent move in so many ways that it's not even funny.

Yes. Desperation move.

It sounds like the reason they promoted the other guy is to teach what Brett directs.

Basically, Brett is the department head outlining the structure of the program and determining the course of study. The flunky is the teacher tasked with delivering it to the individual guys.

The major difference is that the Chiefs have made the playoffs 11 times since the Royals last made it in 1985. Now, the Chiefs have only won 3 games in those playoff appearances, but at least they are getting in the mix. The Royals..............not so ****ing much.

You know they were already in the minors before correct?

'Hamas' Jenkins 05-30-2013 12:25 PM

Not to be a dick, but the hitting coach's ML success, or lack thereof, is completely irrelevant to how much they know about hitting and how well they can understand and communicate necessary changes to the hitters.

Great players often make the worst coaches. Hal McRae is probably the worst hitting coach the Cardinals have had in this century, yet he was far and away the best hitter.

I don't see a reason why Brett wouldn't work as a hitting coach, but to bring up his success as a player compared to the coaches you just demoted is not the reason why he'll work if he does.

Rany Jazayerli.

I know of nobody who has both the PASSION to see the Royals win AND the mind to make it happen. The guy is a baseball savant. He has a clear vision of what an organization needs to do from top to bottom. He's absolutely dialed in at all levels, and well, why the hell not?

The Red Sox started winning when they hired Bill James. But they didn't hire him to be GM, because being a GM requires a lot of other things besides Sabermetrics.

I think it would be great to hire Rany as Director of Player Personnel or some similar role. It would be bad idea to ask him to run the entire organization.

Interesting interview with Seitzer on 810 right now.

Re: Hos -- Said last year he killed the ball in spring training and started the season smoking the ball, but hitting it right at people (we all remember this). He said for the first month and a half he was on his knees pleading with Hos to stick with it, the hits would eventually fall. But he said Hos eventually caved and wouldn't listen anymore -- "I lost him," Seitzer said -- and changed his swing and screwed everything up. And that's where he is today.

I have to agree. Rany would be an excellent scout/scout director, but I think he's said himself he doesn't have the business know-how to feel like he would be able to competently handle player contracts and the business side of a major league team.

I'm waiting for it to pop up on their website, but that just makes it more frustrating. Hos really was killing it to start the season last year, his BABIP was just insanely, frustratingly unlucky. Seitzer didn't do anything wrong, I don't think.

The funny part is that it would seem like Seitzer got canned in part for Hos not hitting for power, then this year they have two guys that tried to emphasize NOT hitting for power as the batting coaches.

Juan Francisco DFA'd by Braves....future Royal?

CaliforniaChief 05-30-2013 02:35 PM

Fair enough. I think the Royals would greatly benefit from having Rany at the table with his insight/perspective.

Alright, Paul DePodesta as GM, Rany on the leadership team as a consultant, and whoever they want to hire as manager.

Seitzer as manager?

CaliforniaChief 05-30-2013 02:44 PM

I could roll with a bunch of names. I just know that De Podesta got screwed by the McCourt's in LA...smart, young, still hungry...and same frame of thinking as Rany. I would trust them to find a manager who knows how to put a lineup together and manage pitching.

I would love to see Dave Righetti get a long look.

It does seem that your issue is drafting and developing talent, not getting a new hitting coach.

Hiring Brett means someday firing Brett. Maybe Frank White type hurt feelings occur. That would be a real tragedy.

No, but I know what won't work, and it's not Seitzer, Brett, White, etc. We need a guy that is interested in winning, and not just "protecting and developing the young guys". We need an ass kicker that expects us to win, and not be surprised by it.

It would indeed mean that were the move a "permanent" one. Not the case here. This is DM desperately trying to buy time to ensure that he gets to try to hire one more manager.

Couldn't agree more. Accountability.

gblowfish 05-30-2013 03:00 PM

I think I know what's wrong with the Royals coaching. They're only allowed to work 36 hours a week. See, they're not allowed to go over 40, because then, Wal-Mart would have to pay their health and dental insurance.

So our players don't get as much instruction as other teams do.

It's that simple.

Oh, and watch for Ned to show up in some Emergency Room with an ulcer, on the taxpayer's dime!

He shouldn't be allowed to some much as hire the new towel boy in the visiting team's locker room. He's failed at everything he's done in his Royal's tenure (okay, that's an exaggeration, but you get the point). He came in here taking over a last place team, and that is where we will most likely finish this year - year 7 of his shit tenure.
