I've been on the "Let's talk to Eric DeCosta" bandwagon since the beginning of this search.

I could understand how Clark Hunt would want to get someone in position before the Senior Bowl practices begin.

I could live with Scott Pioli and Jim Swartz, if that's how it played out.

May the Schwartz be with ya'.

Jim Schwartz (Born July 2, 1966) is the current defensive coordinator for the NFL's Tennessee Titans.
Schwartz has served as the Titans DC for the past six seasons, and was runner-up to Mike Nolan for the San Francisco 49ers head coaching position in 2005. In January, 2008, he interviewed for head coaching positions with the Washington Redskins, Miami Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons.
Schwartz's defenses have been notoriously successful on third down against the run. He does, however, continue to receive criticism from Tennessee Titans fans who blame him for the decline of their once dominating defense. Others argue that the decline of the Titans' defense is a result of the loss of numerous defensive stars from 2003-2005 due to salary cap considerations. Indeed, Schwartz's defense rebounded into the top half of the league during a 10-win 2007 season.
Schwartz got his start in the NFL doing research for Bill Belichick on the Cleveland Browns staff in the mid-1990s. Since then, he has continued to do work with Pro Football Prospectus and Football Outsiders founder Aaron Schatz, which has earned him a somewhat unique reputation among NFL coaches as a "Moneyball-style" statistical analyst.
He grew up in Halethorpe, Maryland and is a graduate of Mount Saint Joseph in Baltimore, Maryland.

Didn't Schwartz have a glowing evaluation of Gunther Cunningham? If so, I'd prefer Ferentz.

I'm pretty sure that a DC isn't going to come out and say "I know that Floyd Reese thinks that ****her Gunningham is a defensive Picasso, but I think the man sucks".

Even if he did think that ****her did a great job as a LB coach for the Titans. I still feel fairly confident that he'd see ****her's results here and look elsewhere for a competent DC.

I'm guessing it was a Hartwell joke but I couldn't say for certain.

Mangini wins Browns derby

WEEI's Michael Holley is reporting that Eric Mangini will be named the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns by the end of the week. Mangini would replace Romeo Crennel, who like Mangini was a former Patriots defensive coordinator under Bill Belichick. Mangini was fired last week by the New York Jets after leading his team to a 9-7 record in his third and final season in New York. Holley also reports that Pats G.M. Scott Pioli will not follow Mangini to Cleveland, likely heading to Kansas City or staying put in Foxboro. -- Mike Petraglia (Jan. 7, 10:21 a.m.)

Harlan's on 810 and speculates the longer we wait the less likely Pioli comes here. Say's that he wouldn't be suprised if he does come and retain Herm for the year and go for a coach next year with alot of coaches being available, like Cowher, Holmgren etc, pure speculation. Soren thinks Mcdaniels and Pioli would be Clark's "HR".

I'm pretty unimpressed with Kevin Harlan's viewpoints lately. I don't think he knows what he's talking about at all.

I listen to sports talk radio all day long, and I hear interviews with Al Michaels, Phil Sims, Joe Buck, etc, etc, and I've found that some of the best game day anouncers, be it play by play or color, have some of the least insightful thoughts.

clyde05 01-07-2009 12:25 PM

just sign pioli already, then fire herm!
