If you believe in the Steelers then sure the Bengals are out of the division. If you believe the Ravens are the real competition and the Steelers will only be competing at the end due the current cushion then the Bengals are certainly still viable. The problem might just be that the defense looks to be even worst than last season when it wasn’t very good anyways putting 10 wins out of reach no matter how many more jump balls are completed.

Unfortunately the Bengals could very easily still make it. They have the rest of the AFC West, the NFC East, the Panthers, and the Titans. Some genuinely awful teams on their schedule. Ravens and Steelers need to bury them.

Sassy Squatch 09-24-2024 03:40 AM

Of course that's all predicated on them getting their collective shit together. I don't think it'll happen personally.

Yep, their whole world revolves around beating the Chiefs. That wouldn't be a problem if we had a one game season. Unfortunately for the bungles, they shot their load, but have 16 more games on the schedule.

chiefzilla1501 09-24-2024 06:10 AM

Bengals fans are blaming Mike brown for not keeping their DL together. Mike brown is a swindler, but the cheapskate defense ain’t gonna fly here. Even if he was Warren buffet, do they think they’re gonna keep chase while keeping their Defense intact? Funny how not a single person seems to be asking about burrows contract and how that makes it harder to build a team around him

Having lived in afc north country for many years it’s a different level of hate. The afc north teams HATE each other. They are annoyed by the bengals more than they hate them. That’s how I feel about the bills. It’s a deep hate driven by some respect when your enemy is there with you in the same trenches

tredadda 09-24-2024 07:17 AM

Yup, KC broke them. They spent all offseason focusing on beating their (apparently) most hated rival only to come up short. The post game reactions from Burrow and Chase showed that. This week they come out and lose on MNF at home to a Washington team that they should have beaten easily. They can still turn their season around, but honestly they need to start focusing on their upcoming games more and KC less.

Oh, and probably our most hated team is Raiders/Broncos (they're kind of interchangeable from season to season). Follow those with perhaps the Patriots/Steelers/Ravens/Bengals. I guess most of those depend on which team is challenging us at the time. ;)

Looking ahead, the Bengals schedule is just loaded with cupcakes all year. They've already lost to two of those cupcakes, but if they get their shit together I could definitely see them squeezing their way back into the playoff picture.

I'm too young to really hate the Raiders, but totally get it for anyone who watched old school lawless football when they'd truly beat the shit out of each other.

And despite '97/'98, I've never truly hated the Broncos... I've never hated another team just because they were good, and besides that one playoff game, they've never been good at the same time as the Chiefs.

I've felt like with the Bills and Bengals though, for the first time in my life the Chiefs have a couple real rivalries... games that really matter to both sides, plus seeing them every year now. There are a few other teams like the Ravens and AFCW teams that hate the Chiefs, but they're afterthoughts until they consistently play the Chiefs in big games and it's more than just their Super Bowl.

Eh, not really?

Chargers, Cowboys, and Eagles are at best a toss up depending on which version shows up.

That division always mauls the **** out of each other.

Panthers, Giants, Titans, Broncos, and Raiders should all be easy wins on paper but given the games they've already lost I wouldn't even feel comfortable pencilling those in as surefire wins.

I've hated the Broncos since Elway and his whiney butt crying to the refs about the noise at Arrowhead. And the Raiders hatred began back in the old Marty Schottenheimer days. But you're right, they aren't much of anything these days. They really need to get better so that we can truly hate them again with all our hearts. :)

9-8 is pretty much their ceiling at this point.

They have 6 games against the AFC North left and they have no defense to speak of.

AFC North games are built on uglying it up and winning late with defensive stands. The Bengals ain't winning those. If they're lucky they manage to go 3-3 in those games.

So they need to find 6 other wins? Not impossible, but not easy. Giants, Panthers, Faid, Broncos, Titans and then hope to steal 1 of the three against Dallas/Philly/LAC?

Does 9-8 get them into the playoffs? No, i don't think it does.

But hey, maybe they'll get to take advantage of that cake last place schedule again next season. So they've got that going for them....which is nice.

Are the Panthers a bad team or are they a decent team that had an abysmal QB? Bengals lost at home to a bad NE team, IDK if the Panthers, at home, with a new QB are worse than NE. I would expect that the Bengals are going to win next week but they have to win. I'm not ready to write off the Bengals but I think losing to Carolina would be the final nail in the coffin.

Like being as generous as possible maybe CIN overlooked the Pats, lost to THE Pat and then lost last night because of a superbowl hangover but I also think you don't go 0-2 against NE and Washington without some serious issues. How are they going to stop the Ravens rush?

Despite the Steelers record, no one is running away with that division. The Ravens aren’t good enough to do that and the Steelers certainly aren’t.

In the next two weeks the Bengals ceiling is 2-3. If they do that, since they play each other, then that also means the Ravens ceiling is 2-3. At that point it’s basically starting over for the division race even if they are both behind the Steelers still.

That last touchdown pass was nuts and could probably never be thrown that perfectly under that amount of pressure again.... I think it was the perfect storm of the Commanders executing so well and being quite lucky a few times on offense, and the Bengals not really being up to the task.

Beautiful.

They’ll get a top 10 pick and pass on OL. Again.

Even if he was Warren buffet, do they think they’re gonna keep chase while keeping their Defense intact? Funny how not a single person seems to be asking about burrows contract and how that makes it harder to build a team around him

Burrow's contract isn't hurting the roster. Losing both starting IDLs this week hurt while having piles of poo behind them, plus Pratt and Wilson are ass in the run game, despite what their stupid PFF grade says (at least in Wilson's case). Plus, Lou is a dipshit for always playing that max coverage D. It's like he's got no prob losing by a thousand cuts but won't take a chance on getting gashed. Chicken shit, you're gonna lose either way.

KC didn't break anything. The offense was fine. This was a game where the DC shit down his leg and his dudes were shitting right along with him.

The Bengals have won the AFC Title, something that nobody except the Chiefs have won the last 5 years.

Buffalo got to play for one once? (Only to get prison raped)

The Bills don't talk like the Bengals do. In fact, no team in the NFL does.

My biggest problem with the Bills is how they whine (somehow successfully) to get the rules changed when shit doesn't go their way. The only time I ever actually rooted for the Bengals was when they curbstomped the Bills in the playoffs with that "neutral site" bullshit hanging in the balance. No team has ever so richly deserved to lose a game.

Annie Agar is always funny but this one was a gem.

"The refs help the Chief so much they made the Bengals lose to Washington".

Oh I wasn’t only referring to last night though. Ever since “Burrowhead” the Bengals have been going in the opposite direction. It’s ok though as KC has done this to a lot of teams during the Mahomes era.
