Well, that was entertaining

alnorth 11-07-2015 11:04 PM

co-main up next

jonzie04 11-07-2015 11:22 PM

Damn did herb call that fight or was he just pulling them apart?

alnorth 11-07-2015 11:24 PM

That was a terrific stop by Herb Dean, it happened exactly when I thought it should.

alnorth 11-07-2015 11:31 PM

Old legendary man Hendo vs Testosterone cheater next

alnorth 11-07-2015 11:41 PM

Here we go. Hendo walking out now, I hope its a good fight.

jonzie04 11-07-2015 11:53 PM

Damn I felt that kick in my living room.

jonzie04 11-07-2015 11:54 PM

That stoppage was a little early though IMO given that it is hendo... and a main event.

alnorth 11-07-2015 11:54 PM

Lots of caution early in the fight. The first strike Vitor threw landed perfectly, and that was it

He'll be back.

Maybe.

But nothing will spoil the hype for Mcgregor vs Aldo!!!!

interesting bit of info: Cowboy Cerrone has a permanent exemption to the IV ban.

The reason was because of a horrific ATV accident he suffered as a teenager, where they had to remove a portion of his stomach and a lot of small intestine. Because of this, he is unable to orally rehydrate efficiently after weigh-in.

Here's something I didn't expect to see. The heaviest favorite this weekend (via Bovada) is Joanna Jedrzejczyk at -2250, Ronda is at -2000. (you can get roughly -1000 if you parlay both fights, which doesn't seem like a bad deal)

I'm surprised that a bet on Ronda pays more, maybe the gamblers think she might box to prove she's a complete fighter.

I understand why Joanna is an overwhelming favorite though, Valerie is a mediocre kickboxer who plans to stand and trade with Joanna. That sounds like a terrible plan, and I foresee a whole lot of blood in that fight. Casual fans and women who are only tuning in for Ronda have no idea what they are in for in the co-main.

Joanna is a bad mofo. She has the best hands in the business man or woman

I think we now know the real reason Mirko Cro Cop retired. He has been suspended by USADA for a potential failed test.

uhhh.... wow. OK, here's a gambling tip. I was looking through the odds to see if anything in this weekend's fights looked interesting, but **** UFC 193.

Jose Aldo is the underdog in UFC 194. You can get +150 by betting on him on bovada. Is it possible that he could lose? Sure, but this is God Damn ridiculous, people have drunk the Conor McGregor Kool-Aid in a big way, and I can't imagine the odds moving further away from Aldo. I think once the smart money shifts away from November, looks at December, and sees this idiotic line, they'll be all over it and bet Aldo hard.

Again, this isn't a lock or anything, but this is a very severe pricing anomaly driven by really stupid Irish homer money. If you have a gambling stake you can afford to lose, you are getting an incredible deal on Jose Aldo right now.

edit: just put my money in. If Conor wins fine, then I guess I lose, but I bet $200 to.... lol.... win $300 if Jose freaking Aldo wins.

Man I just don't know about this fight. I thought Conor's stand up was elite, but Mendez was able to land some solid shots. However, he did the same to Aldo.

I think Mcgregor has a much better shot to beat Aldo than he does Frankie Edgar. I plan to go big on Edgar if Mcgregor beats Aldo.

alnorth 11-11-2015 11:02 PM

Mendes at short notice to me meant it would be a toss up, he wouldn't have a proper camp or notice to prepare for him, neutralizing his presumed grappling advantage.

Now we're talking about scarface, he's only 29, hasn't lost a fight in forever, with almost a full damned year to prepare. I'm expecting a lot of leg kicks, then after Conor's leg is ****ed up, Aldo is going to beat the hell out of him. Conor is talented enough that I could be wrong, Conor has a wicked left so I wouldn't touch it if Aldo was a -200 favorite, but Aldo at a +150 underdog looks completely absurd. I can afford to risk some money on that dumb line.

I'm very surprised Aldo is a dog. I agree with you here, those are great odds. Aldo's leg kicks could immobilize Conor. If Conor is unable to move in round 3, then he's screwed.

I can't ****ing wait. The last fight I was this excited for was GSP/Penn in 09.

Yeah, again, this is not a "bet your mortgage" line. This is strictly a discretionary income "I can afford to lose every penny of this" situation, but given that, holy cow that bet looks great to me. I haven't been this confident since I bet $250 on the over in 2014 for Royals @ 79.5 wins.

alnorth 11-12-2015 09:58 PM

They had the first staredowns for 193 today, Ronda and Holm was a civilized affair ended with a handshake, which is not unexpected because Ronda actually likes and respects Holm.

Once again, Joanna was gangster at her first staredown. Valerie did ratchet it up and set the tone though by aggressively getting in her face right away, said something, and then according to Dana, Joanna said "this is your last fight, bitch", to which Valerie responded with a "**** Off"

I loved PRIDE. Loved the introductions at the beginning of the shows, the entrances, the team feuds and the fight formats. I personally couldn't care less if fighters are juiced to the gills either.

I have zero interest in any sport or promotion, especially combat sports, that encourages steroids.

Boxing sucks.

The UFC roster is now tested hundreds of times, unannounced and randomly by an independend ADA that is above question or reproach.

edit: and they never encouraged steroids or looked the other way. Champions have been stripped for steroids even in the olden days of the UFC.

alnorth 11-13-2015 04:37 PM

God Damn, Ronda is an unlikable bitch. She lost her shit at the weigh-in for no good reason.

edit: looks like it was just an act to sell more tickets. She was smiley and happy on TV right after. If that was her goal, she started promoting a little late, shoulda started the angry act days ago.

alnorth 11-13-2015 05:32 PM

I guess Ronda had a good reason to be annoyed. Holly didn't just put her hands up like she usually does, she put her right hand on Ronda's jaw and pushed like it was a slow-motion right hook.

FOTN Silva vs. Hunt
POTN Jedrzejczyk
POTN Rousey

Floor, lower level, and (most of) 2nd level is sold out. The large upper level looks about half-full. 70,000 was always going to be tough and they obviously didn't get there, it'll be interesting to see if they at least broke the 55,000 ticket attendance record or not.

Was that liver or ribs? Seemed too much towards the front to be liver? Usually side kicks and hooks catch the liver.

It did look high enough to probably be lower ribs, but the way he just went down like his legs didn't exist anymore, and then seemed to be OK couple minutes after makes me think liver.

Hard to say though, could be either

alnorth 11-14-2015 08:28 PM

Seems like with those liver shots there is like a second delay before they feel it. That one was instantaneous.

The cutman sucked. He did nothing to try to stop the swelling he was only focused on the cut and nothing else. doctor saw how bad the swelling got and stopped it.

He wasn't going to win anyway, but a good cutman like stitch would have gotten him to the 3rd round.
