Markets. Then football second. See Buttgers, Maryland.
2019 all NCAA levels FB attendance 47M. All hoops 31M. Again, the gap isn’t nearly what the avg fan has been told by talking heads.
KU FB is a lost cause and it’s prinariky because they’re next door to an NFL franchise. Even when the Chiefs suck, I go to the games and watch them all because the quality is so superior. Not many programs (if any) can compete with The Shield.

When we're talking millions differences for attendance, isn't that quite a bit in terms of revenue, though, and probably hundreds of millions of dollars?
Re: KU FB- I don't think it's a lost cause and think they could probably replicate the success they had with Mangino if they invested more into the program/facilities. I mean, even Campbell's having success at Iowa ****ing State, which is the #2 school in the state. I'm not sure I agree with the being near a NFL team hurts their success, either.
Ann Arbor is pretty much the same distance from Detroit as Lawrence is from Kansas City. Look at Miami. Stanford to San Francisco.
