Shopping for championship stuff comes with some FOMO for me. I live halfway across the country so I can't just drive to Lawrence and go to one of the bookstores or Jock's Nitch or something and pick up a T Shirt. IF I see one on Fanatics I like, I figure there is a clock on how long that will be available before some other KU fan snaps it up.
|
This guy makes vinyl championship banners for a lot of teams.
I have the mini versions for the Royals, Chiefs, and KU. I have them hanging in my classroom, they look pretty sweet. Anyway, he's a reasonable guy, he only has the KU ones because I asked him to make them! https://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_nkw..._skc=120&rt=nc |

I'd want a hat but can't find one I like. I'll also buy a new banner to hang, plus the commemorative SI cover. I'm looking at buying a mini version of the Pay Heed sign too. |

What recruits would you say that we've lost specifically because of FBI? I know there is little actual proof that is the reason but I'd say Tyty for one.
Anyone else have a guess? |
Matt Hurt (Dook)
Possibly Kendall Brown, which was rumored. In the end we are Kings so nobody cares anymore |
Quote:
The interesting thing on TyTy to me is what impact Remy has on recruiting. Because I believe TyTy was probably told by Cal that he can come run the show and shoot whenever he wants and self just won't let you do that. Even at the beginning of the season you can see multiple posts of "oh Remy is hot and I'm sure self hates that shot" kind of posts. But in the end on the biggest stage he let him cook, taking shots that would surely get most of our guys throughout Self's time here benched immediately. I think having a more relaxed, less strict view of our offense in recruits eyes will be big. |
It's almost like they are trying to find anything to charge us with something. How bad do they look if they come back and say we didn't find enough proof to justify any disciplinary actions?
|
Well if they punish us on something that they can't prove and also would be totally legal now and also you could assume about any big program then you can bet KU will sue the next day.
You can't punish Kansas for playing a guy the Clearinghouse cleared twice. Although that said, I'm pretty sure they have done that in the past. |

Which was the biggest block in KU history?
|
It's Thomas Robinson. We got the ball
|
Probably T Rob. We don’t necessarily lose the UNC game if that layup is made.
If T Rob doesn’t get that block, we lose the last Big 12 game to Missouri. We would never hear the end of that one. |
I want to congratulate the Douglas County Jayhawks on winning the National Title. Well done.
|
|
I was in the building for the TRob block and that game rivals any game I've ever been to (and I've been to the Bautista bat flip game, the Kawhi shot game, and the Chiefs/Texans comeback game among many others including game 7s at the NBA/NHL level). Most people wouldn't grasp the emotional intensity of that one if they weren't watching it.

I was there for Mario’s Miracle. Top that. |
KU-Mizzou in 2012 was incredible. Best Kansas game I’ve been to. Incredible atmosphere. It’s hard to describe how the energy in the building grew as we made that comeback, then the building exploded on T Rob’s and-1. Then, it went to an even higher level on the block. Just insane.
Kansas-Ohio State in the Phog that year was a good one too. |
Quote:
The Kawhi shot wasn't any more or less awesome to see because Durant ended up getting injured a month later in game 5 ending with a Raptors championship. |

Lot of good replies about the block. I can’t disagree. I was a freshman at KU and the days leading up to the game had a tension and energy on campus that was never matched again (our AFH match against Kentucky my senior year was the only game that could be in that conversation).
Then as for the game itself. I have never seen a regular season matchup from the Jayhawks, Royals and Chiefs that has ever come close to matching that intensity and I do not know if I ever will again. With Mizzou leaving the conference and building what felt like an insurmountable lead, it was like the energy that had built up from the game, Mizzou leaving the conference and the breakup of the Big 12 built to a crescendo in AFH with T-Rob’s block. The emotional “fan” in me thinks no block will touch that one. The pragmatic side of me knows the stakes of Remy’s block. It’s the National Championship game, and there is a high percentage chance Love makes that and a higher percentage chance we’re now going down the court with non reinjured Bacot towering in the middle with us down 1. It’s an alternate reality I’m not sure I’d ever have the bravery to play out. So… Heart will always say TRob, right now my cold and calculative brain says Remy. What a week this has been, work has been hellacious and this has been a massive boost. Celebrating with y’all has been an honor. |
Just a quick reminder:
National Champs! |
Best KU game I've ever been to was that Selby buzzer beater game against USC. I went to the game vs Baylor in 2020 right before the world went to shit when it was #1 vs #2 and KU got shellacked.
Shit, they've lost the last 3 games I've been too. I'm probably the only person in the world who can say that. |

That Trob /Taylor team gave us so many big moments. There wasn’t a ton of talent but the ****ers had heart for days. Those Mizzou games were both heartattack Hawks games. The one at Misery was when Taylor got the rebound on a FR and beat Saunders to the bucket. It’s probably not, but I think it’s as fast as I’ve seen anyone move with the ball. That play and the TRob block are both tremendous plays that encapsulated the season. TRob and Taylor making ridiculous plays at huge times to win games. Those guys would play for the championship and Misery would lose to Norfolk State. ROFL |

I was at that game as well. A few Baylor fans tried to “occupy” the Phog. We struggled early, but then dominated after that dunk. It was a weird pop too. As soon as he dunked it, the Phog went completely silent in disbelief. Then exploded once we all realized that we really saw that. |

Just an observation.......
We just won a championship. The parade was yesterday. And we have all these nostalgia posts about the cool moments we enjoyed from the past. Enjoying them. Saw the same thing on here when the Cardinals won their recent championships. I'm assuming this is true with all sports and teams. |
Quote:
We know we've had amazing teams over the years, and it isn't fair that incredible players like BIFM and Devonte and Svi and so many others who poured their souls and talent into KU just... came up short. That Doke, who I think worked as hard as anyone given his physical gifts - would have been so easy to just rely on size - didn't get to crush the tournament when there was no one who could stop him... Or Embiid, who would have, without question, been the MOP of the tournament without his back getting injured... Or even guys like Traylor and Lucas who rose above their talents to be true senior leaders playing beyond expectation... This is a win for all of them, and they deserve their share of the glory. It's a program, not just a team, and they're all a part of it together. It's why Mario and Pierce and all of them come back. |

That being said, I'm always a sucker for old hawk talk. Throw on some footage of Releford playing defense, and I'll be content for hours. :D |

I remember the bigs were: Ellis, Lucas, Traylor, Mickelson, Bragg, and Diallo. Diallo was pretty disappointing, but part of that is from his weird eligibility issue. The guards were: Mason, Graham, Selden, Svi, Greene, and Vick. Just a crazy amount of competent bodies. Selden was really good that year. Kansas, Nova, and UNC were all really good that year. |

I feel like you could have thrown a ton of size at 2020 and beat them. But nobody should have beat that 2010 team. They were ****ing goooooood. And lost because they wouldn't bring energy against a ****ing shitbag UNI team :cuss: |
This doesn't get talked about, but his first year he could have probably won the NC, or at least made the FF if he had just been more flexible as a coach.
I understand that he needed to install his offense, and have the players adjust to the defensive style of game he likes, but that team was built to run, and he insisted on the Hi-Lo offense. If he had let them run, and expend energy on scoring instead of using so much energy on defense, I think that team had a real chance. Now, they still did pretty damn well, but he just didn't have the guys to play his style that year. Thankfully, he got to the point where he was open to changing the offense to fit his players (kinda had no other option) and that has led 2 Final Fours and a National Championship. The adaptable Bill Self is the best coach in college basketball. Sent from my GM1915 using Tapatalk |
