I bailed on meeting Shatner last weekend. Basically all I wanted to do was shake his hand and tell him that he's great, then go on my way. Not an option. First, I would have had to pay to see a movie I'd already seen twice, then either pay $50 for an autograph which I already have or $50 for a photo which I don't need, and apparently if you try to touch him he calls security. So it just didn't seem worth it. Plus, if he'd been a jackass, it would have bothered me. So I took a pass.

I've heard that Shatner can be a douche in person. Seems like the two people I've heard this the most about are Shatner and Tommy Lee Jones.

I just look at it this way - the guy's in his 80s, and has been signing autographs and getting his picture taken for two straight days. Reasonable to assume he's not going to be in the best of moods by the time I wander up.

Most likely, someone who is hunting "manbearpig" and is seeking possible "inside" information as to how to find him.

Oh Man! Well, I'm both happy and sad for you. Happy because most likely he would have been a jackass but sad that you didn't get to meet him.

I hate to say it but it's probably for the best. Keep the "idea" of Shatner intact instead of having it shattered forever.

I did drive past the theater. So I can say I was about 40 feet from Shatner. :D

You know who's a cool as **** celebrity?

Jeremy Bulloch.

I got his autograph about 10 years ago and I was wearing a t-shirt with the mysterious logo Boba Fett wears on his left shoulder pauldron. Bulloch got all interested in my shirt and told me he really liked it. He's all "into" the big cult following for Boba Fett...and the fans made him his own version of the armor, gave it to him for free, and he wears it around sometimes I guess...LMAO

This doesn't deserve it's own thread. But it should go somewhere:

Tuesday evening a bunch of dudes get together here in Springfield and kick a ball around. There's a local soccer field and I've been lucky enough to join them.

One of the dudes playing is none other than our very own DMAC.

This was a particularly sucky Tuesday, as the field with the short grass was taken so we were playing in tall grass, on a large field with uneven numbers -- and I was ****ing playing on the outnumbered team, so it literally means I'm defending fastbreaks, pathetically outnumbered every time, nonstop for however long.

Once, trying to retrieve a ball and pass it back to the keep, my plant foot hits the earth weird and my knee tweaks. Doesn't feel good. It wasn't serious (I was back in action after a 15 minute writhe-fest on the sideline), but it did level me for a few minutes on the field. I alerted the guys I thought it was my knee and jackknifed over in the grass.

Dude comes up and says "so you'd say your knee went the wrong... direckshun?" and jogs off laughing his ass off. Shiteating grin on his face, as obviously we're the only two people on the field who get the reference. I was in too much pain to laugh, but I fear I legitimately got ChiefsPlanet pwned in real life.

Annually, there is this huge Star Trek festival roughly 30 minutes from where I am from in a small town called Riverside, Iowa. This is generally considered pretty big deal for Star Trek fans. The reason they host this in Riverside is because James T. Kirk was evidently raised there.

Jeremy Bulloch is not a celebrity.

His character is a cult figure, but he was wearing a mask the whole time. He's less of a celebrity than whoever the guy was wearing the C3PO costume.

Do people like Shatner have to do things like that for fiduciary reasons, or do they actually want to do it?

They make a lot of money doing it. As mentioned above, Shatner charges $50 for an autograph. Sit doing that for a few hours and you've made thousands in a day. I'm sure they make as much or more from actually showing up in the first place.

He's part owner in Priceline.com in addition to penning several successful Star Trek novels, starring in film and TV for years on end, not to mention his commercial work.

As far as I know, the guy is worth tens of millions of dollars but at age 82, I have to assume that he's doing it because he loves the attention.

The last time I saw him was at Jerry's Deli in Studio City a few years back and the word "Attention Whore" wasn't a strong enough adjective to describe his behavior.

$50 a pop to sign his name or pose for a picture, the line was out the door for hours each day. And he's doing this on his own, so he gets damn near all of it for himself.

I'm sure he doesn't need the money, but apparently he wants it.

After the nearly decade long lull in his career (outside of Star Trek movies), he really came to embrace his celebrity and used it to his advantage.

His appearances on the Howard Stern show in the early to mid 90's were nothing short of absolutely hysterical and led to his ridiculous deal with Priceline (which reportedly, he's earned $600 million).

Since we're on the subject, it might bear repeating that I used to watch him sing karoake on Sunday nights at a bar in Studio City called Residuals. It was a fun hang for many recognizable actors and actresses (not necessarily stars, per se but working folk) and he was absolutely hilarious.

That career dive really put things in perspective for him and I think he's been enjoying his second chance in the spotlight ever since.

His dominant direckshun is left, but sometimes he can be deceptive and go far left instead.

No one cares what Pootie-boo-boo has to say.

The fact this thread has gone full level 4 meltdown with Hatfields vs. McCoys makes it HOF worthy...

He refers to himself as a midfielder even though he only plays left wing.

LMAO

I could always tell from Direckshun's posts that he'd have difficulty qualifying for the teenage Special Olympics.

No, that's Dane.

I think Donger's Cliff.

patteeu is Frasier, and Saul is Lillith. KC native is Carla.

And while Hootie will think he's Sam, that can't be, since Sam is now clean and sober.
