Anderson Silva had a similar thing happen, broke his leg kicking his opponent. That opponent was Chris Weidman.

Still remember the look on Uriah's face after that. He was completely terrified to the point that Chael Sonnen had to snap him out of it.

In his subsequent like 5 years of his career, he looked afraid to hurt his opponents. It's like he knew how much better he was, but he was tentative because he didn't want to devastate them like that kid on TUF. And just when he was starting to get big time fights, this happens.
