The RedSox Team OPS vs LHP is .715 as opposed to RHP which is .819. Try and neutralize Lefthanded batters Ellsbury, Carp, Ortiz, Holt, and Drew, as well as Switch Hitters Saltalphabet (.551 vs LHP / .864 vs RHP) and Nava (.608 vs LHP / .854 vs RHP). Even Napoli's and Gomes' splits are worse against LHP.

Stack it up.

Your numbers prove the thesis. They'll never do it, but they should. I'd let Smith get the start Sunday.

CaliforniaChief 08-09-2013 09:05 AM

Yes, I believe he can come back Sunday if all checks out.

One more note. I may be wrong, but it appears that Bruce Chen's emergence in the rotation has had a major benefit for Ervin Santana. I believe Santana has followed Chen in the rotation since the ASB (4 starts).

In those 4 starts, Santana is 4-0 with an ERA of 1.27, 22K/7BB, and a WHIP of 0.882.

I wonder if the change of speed coming off Chen is helping Santana.

CaliforniaChief 08-09-2013 09:17 AM

Oh yeah, and speaking of Santana...

Ervin Santana ‏@ErvinSantana_54 19m
Thou hast seen nothing yet. #MigueldeCervantes #SecondHalfIsOurs

LMAO I love him. He called his shot at the ASB and is backing it the hell up.

I hadn't thought about that, but that is an interesting perspective.

I hope Chen comes back again next season. He is a great swing man.

If Yost tried to push Shields start back from Boston to Miami, there would be a physical altercation in the clubhouse.

Especially the way Shields pitched in his last outing. I'm sure he's chomping at the bit to get back out there.

Baseball vs football record wise. See what you think.

Most wins in a 162 game season... 116

Least wins in a 162 game season... 43

116 - 43 = 73

73 / 16 = 4.5

Baseball wins first = Football record

43 = 0 - 16
47.5 = 1 - 15
54 = 2 - 14
58.5 = 3 - 13
63 = 4 - 12
67.5 = 5 - 11
72 = 6 - 10
76.5 = 7 - 9
81 = 8 - 8
85.5 = 9 - 7
90 = 10 - 6
94.5 = 11 - 5
99 = 12 - 4
103.5 = 13 - 3
108 = 14 - 2
112.5 = 15 - 1
116 = 16 - 0

Seems pretty close in the fact that if the Royals win 90 games they will probably be right on the playoff boarder line... just as the Chiefs might be if we get to 10 - 6. Both records should get us in, but you never know for sure.

I think the Rangers are going to make the playoffs, whether it be the WC or division. They play the weakest schedule of all, and there's no way they lose ground with that rotation. We can only hope that Oakland becomes chokeland. It's probable given their schedule.

siberian khatru 08-09-2013 12:14 PM

Thursday’s Royals win over Boston was the highest-rated Royals game ever on FOX Sports Kansas City, shattering the previous record set Monday.
