Spags really should get a metric shit ton more credit than he's gotten. He won that game.

The Chiefs held Baltimore - the league's No. 1 rushing offense - to 81 yards on the ground last night.
It marked the first time that the Ravens didn't top 100 rushing yards as a team since Week 1 of the 2022 season, a span of 36 games. |

I just thought of something today. And it’s the attention to detail that separates a good coach from a great.
Remember the multiple scuffles Kelce specifically got in with the DBs over punching at the ball in training camp? Meanwhile McDuffie was second in the nfl to Antoine Winfield in forced fumbles, and Sneed made the biggest play of the year |

So yeah, not really any suitors and honestly I don't think Spags even wants to. He came out of retirement for Reid's sake and I think he's just happy sticking with Reid until the very end. |
Look at his coaching history
As a coach: Massachusetts (1981–1982) Graduate assistant Washington Redskins (1983) Player personnel intern Lafayette (1984–1986) Defensive line coach & special teams coach Connecticut (1987–1991) Defensive backs coach Connecticut (1989–1991) Defensive coordinator Barcelona Dragons (1992) Defensive line coach & special teams coach Maine (1993) Defensive backs coach Maine (1994) Defensive coordinator & linebackers coach Rutgers (1994–1995) Defensive backs coach Bowling Green (1996–1997) Defensive backs coach Frankfurt Galaxy (1998) Defensive coordinator & linebackers coach Philadelphia Eagles (1999–2000) Defensive assistant Philadelphia Eagles (2001–2003) Defensive backs coach Philadelphia Eagles (2004–2006) Linebackers coach New York Giants (2007–2008) Defensive coordinator St. Louis Rams (2009–2011) Head coach New Orleans Saints (2012) Defensive coordinator Baltimore Ravens (2013) Senior defensive assistant Baltimore Ravens (2014) Secondary coach New York Giants (2015–2017) Defensive coordinator New York Giants (2017) Interim head coach Kansas City Chiefs (2019–present) Defensive coordinator His closet must be amazing. All of that gear. It is a literal Goodwill. |
NFL Europe to NFL Hall of Fame
not bad |
I don't remember what I thought when we hired him, I think I was pretty neutral, but this year his 2nd half adjustments are second to no human being on the planet. Truly legendary adjustments.

Steve gonna dial up Purdypain!
Steve will have a purdy good day in making Mr Irrelevant totally irrelevant |
Do the Chiefs beat the Faketriots in the AFC Championship Game and win the Super Bowl if Spags was the DC over Bob Sutton?
With the same defensive personnel… mediocre secondary, Haglund Eric Berry, Dee Ford, etc. |
Not sure if this was posted but if anybody wants that shirt in spags we trust.

[QUOTE=The Franchise;17376545Who says that he even wants to be a HC again? He's with his buddy Reid and winning rings.[/QUOTE]
Steady job at the ring factory, works with top tier defensive players, cooking up a schemes, teaching up the rookies. Great relationship with offensive minded HC who doesn't micro-manage and gives him tons of credit. Does not have to deal with management, ownership, all the media, and day-to-day crap of being a HC. |
I think Spags will go as long as Reid will go, barring personal matters. Reid partnered with Jim Johnson up until he passed, hopefully Andy retires in 2+ years and then we’ll likely need to rebuild that staff and team with Patrick’s input on the next HC.

Why wasn't Spags at least up for Assistant Coach award? Jim Schwartz won the award for his job as DC of the Browns but with what Spags did with the young defense of the Chiefs it's hard to imagine he wasn't even a consideration.

Look at this. Entire season on the line. Niners run the clock way down if they get a 1st here. Spags runs out 2 linemen, 2 linebackers and 4 safeties and then to top it off blitzes with McDuffie. What a call.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">McDuffie slot blitz on 3rd and 5. My sphincter almost ate it self on that play.
Spags was milling around with the safeties way back, and I was screaming at the TV to send the house. |
that was one of the best disguised blitzes I've seen
|
1: Andy
2: Hank (it's close but a HC to win a SB and considering the historic factors with it still being near the time of the merger) 3: Spags 4 and beyond: However you want to rank any other coach in Chiefs history |

Hank set the example of what this franchise is meant be. Andy and Spags are fulfilling it to the highest degree. |
He has to be the first HOF Coordinator just based on those merits, yeah? Has been acknowledged as one of the key reasons the Giants upset the undefeated Patriots in 07 and now has 3 Championships with us.
|
Spags did a magnificent job taking the 49ers run game away like he did with the Ravens. There is a reason why these teams decided to pass the ball because he forced them to.
|
15.75 PPG in the playoffs against the best offenses in the league over a 4 game span.
Put that man's name on the building Clark. Him and Mahomes are the drivers of this championship. He's truly one of a kind. Unreal. |

Anyone think we win these last two chips with Sutton at the helm?
It’s looking a hell of a lot like that 2018 AFCCG loss, though a real bitch of a loss at the time, was crucial to our long-term success. Funny how things work out. |

Spags was on another interview saying that Nick is the SMARTEST player he's ever had in all his decades of coaching.
There was also an mic'd up earlier in the year, I think it was Reid, where Bolton goes to him on the sideline and goes "how'd you like that call?" and Reid was like "loved it!" Showing that it's a LOT of Bolton out there calling the defensive plays with Spags. This makes me really believe that it is Nick that is like the Pat of the defense, where Jones is more like the Kelce. They both need each other, but Bolton's genius gets lost in some of the hype noise around everyone else, eg Jones, Sneed, McDuffie etc |

If watching that Eagles game doesn't make you appreciate Spags, nothing will.
The Eagles sat back and let Cousins shred them. Spags wouldn't have done that in a million years. Not even in week 2. That ****er's gonna die with his boots on 100 times out of 100. It's gonna beat us someday. It may beat us in brutal, heartbreaking fashion that we remember for decades. But it's put at least one flag over Arrowhead and very arguably 2 (or even 3). Spags is playing with house money in my eyes. And if we go down, we'll go down swinging. That's a hell of a lot better than playing soft and then getting juked out of your jock at the goalline because you let them walk down there like they were playing against 3rd stringers. |
Can't find the longest record before this (if there was one), but with the Cinci game, the Kansas City defense has held opponents below 28 points in 23 straight games, tying the Redskins' 23-game streak in 2009.

Derrick Henry avg 3.5 ypc against us, but avg 6.5 ypc in his other 3 games. Bijan Robinson avg 1.9 ypc against us, but avg 4.9 ypc in his other 3 games. J.K. Dobbins avg 2.3 ypc against us, but avg 7.4 ypc in his other 3 games. He was stuffed by Pittsburgh last week, too. This run D is legit and is probably the best run D we've had in decades.
