A lot of coaches do that if they think the YAC will get them a first down. But Andy Reid loves throwing the ball, so it depends on the play. He likes to go down field, so chances are he'd probably go past the market.

It also depends on the QB. McNabb was captain checkdown, so a lot of times he threw shy of the marker to a covered WR.

Perhaps noteworthy Andy Reid was "smitten" with Dexter McCluster before 2010 draft: http://espn.go.com/blog/nfceast/post...o-donovan-pick …. Maybe Reid could turn him around.

BradBigglestein 01-03-2013 04:42 PM

One of Andy Reid's philosophies is a short pass/screen is basically the equivalent of a running play. That annoyed a lot of people because running the ball helps set up play action.

One thing that will drive you guys nuts with Reid is your QB running play action on 4th and 10 down 7 with 2 minutes to go. It's like, c'mon man, the defense knows you aren't going to run on that play. That was one of my Reid pet peeves.

Pasta Little Brioni 01-03-2013 04:43 PM

Eh, get a QB that can stretch the field and he can make more of an impact on those short to intermediate routes. Easy to defend when they can only throw the ball 10 yards downfield without sailing it out of bouds.

Hammock Parties 01-03-2013 04:43 PM

If Reid turns Dexter into a productive player it will just confirm the genius that is Andy Reid.

Instead of 1,500 rush and 280 receiving, expect to see something like 1,300 rush and 500 receiving.

With a real life NFL passing game and coaches his rush yards will go up regardless of 30-50 fewer touches.

okay heres what my radio guy emailed me about 2:00 pm. He said he got this from his buddy he used to work with thats in Philly now, that's covered Reid for 10 years.

  • All of the structure of the deal is done.
  • Reid has final say over players and coaches. Free agents and releases are totally his decision.
  • Reid doesnt want to be a Coach/GM. He wants the OC to call the plays.
  • Will have equal power in the draft picks with a GM of his choosing.
  • Brad Childress will be the OC, if he wants the job.
  • No DC decided. All of the possible coaches for the staff are approved by Hunt.
  • Both Dorsey and Heckert have been approved for the other half of the say in the draft/GM position. It is assumed that Dorsey won't leave the Pack.
  • Pioli stays on to see how he can get along with the new GM of Reid's choosing. If not, he's gone.

I think it just needs to be played out. I doubt Pioli stays. Even if you do like him in a role, its going to be a pretty awkward situation. Even if the Chiefs win Pioli is going to lose. Hell, he will look worse.

There's a few things I wonder about.

Is that contractually allowed for Hunt to neuter Pioli like this? If so... it could be a move to get Pioli to resign on his own terms.

A second point might be that Hunt wants Pioli to aid in the transition, particularly the draft. The Chiefs don't have a scouting director. Pioli is the scouting director. So if you lose Pioli, you lose a lot of intelligence on the current draft class. Heckert has some of that having worked with the Browns, but we saw what happens when the new GM arrogantly freezes out the last regime's scouting network. I am being clearly overly optimistic, but maybe they keep him around for the draft, then make some kind of a move.

In either case... I don't see Pioli taking well to this role. And I can't see how he'd want to stick around and be somebody else's bitch.

Only problem with Andy Reid is he puts too much pressure on the QB. Vick should have been handing the ball off a lot more than he has this season. He was running for his life more than half the time when I watched Eagles games.

Official announcement about Reid, or at least the introductory presser, must wait until the GM position is also completely resolved.

Now he's trying to do it again since the Pioli ship sunk like a stone on fire. Maybe he cares. Whether he cares for profit or because he really gives a shit about winning, maybe he cares.

Maybe by that he's meaning they'll have to find one? As in, not having a QB in place rather than trash like Cassel/Sanchez being passed off as the franchise QB. As I see it, the Chiefs effectively have no QBs on the roster. Cassel should be gone, Quinn is a FA and should not be brought back, and Stanzi, who even knows or cares.

Hootie 01-03-2013 05:21 PM

he'll have no say in anything other than being a grossly overpaid personnel guy...was pretty successful at being Belichick's bitch in New England if he's going to get paid regardless I see no problem with Hunt holding him hostage as candy wrapper boy
