You're not homering right if you spend all season saying "we'll be fine in the playoffs" as people freak out over every breeze of adversity, then go into hiding before the playoffs even start.

There's a difference between not being optimistic about the team's chances this year and hyper posting as you vent your spleen all over every thread when things aren't going well

But here is the question...

Will we actually be OK in the playoffs?

The way we have played recently doesn't make me feel comfortable that we will.

Its almost like fandom mirrors "real" life where you have really loud minority voices on each extreme sides sucking people in the middle, who know better, down into the mud to roll around thinking they're better but we're all really the same pig

It's funny/sad how just like so many other areas of life, entrench ourselves in opposite views even when we're all rooting for the same team.

I remember it way back in 2003.... some of the board was loudly exclaiming the defense sucked and they wouldn't do anything in the playoffs, while others were saying it was fine. And it blew up after a game against the Vikings late in the year.

I watched that game in a hotel room somewhere in Georgia on the way to watch KU get rolled by Phillip Rivers in the Tangerine Bowl.

Twenty years later, the wide receivers have created the same divide, despite the vast majority of people being in the middle somewhere.

No idea, but yeah they of course don't deserve much optimism after today's embarrassment.

Given previous seasons, you feel like Sept/Oct and even November are practically preseason for the team and eventually they get in stride... last year they just had one tuneup game at the end of the year and I said a couple months ago that I figured they might need all of December to figure shit out.... and of course shit's going backwards, like we're now in the first week of training camp.

It feels like most of the AFC is a dumpster fire, so while I currently wouldn't bet on the Chiefs to win the AFC, I'm also not betting on the Dolphins or Browns or Jags or Bills or.....
The Ravens are playing the most consistent ball, but I'll believe in them when they actually do it in the playoffs.

I think flipping the switch goes as Mahomes goes... they can take most of their issues into the playoffs and have a fighting chance against most anyone. Mahomes plays well, they can hide a lot of shit.

They can't take the issue of Mahomes being his own worst enemy into the playoffs and expect much of anything positive to happen though, not matter how well the rest of the team plays (unless maybe the defense plays out of its mind for 4 quarters).

So... that's where any shred of optimism lies. That Mahomes will figure out his shit in time for the playoffs, giving them a punchers chance.
