If he had sucked that first year at Kansas, Auburn wasn't going to offer him the job.

You mean like when Auburn hired Gene Chizik after going 3-9 and 2-10 at ISU?

Why do you think that? Do SEC coaches get paid that much more than KU coaches?

Is there less exposure? Bob Stoops, Mack Brown, Mike Gundy....these coaches are underexposed?

Those schools have KU on stadium size so I suppose if Malzan refused to coach anywhere with a stadium under 80k then you have a point.

But dude wanted the job. Zenger hired Weis. And here we are.

Auburn was a completely different program at that time.

I'm not sure how to explain this to you. But, Gus Malzahn was a rental for whatever school he went to when he left Auburn to go to Arky State. He wasn't coming to ku to stay any longer there than he did at ASU. Once the AU job opened, he was gone - my point.

If you think that prospective Coaches look at the ku job the same as they look at a job in the upper half of the SEC, well, I can't help you.

They wanted Chizik, the same way they wanted Malzahn - success or not at their former Programs. They were both SEC guys. Chizik was a former FL alum and DC for AU. Malzahn spent time with AR and AU as an OC, and coached Cam Newton to a Heisman.

You may be right, but I don't think it was a foregone conclusion.

That's a step in the right direction, only paying two head coaches at a time. Keep that up. :D

Actually, I like Cochise. He just goes brain dead when it comes to discussing all things KU. I don't hold that against him. Happens to most MU fans. ;)

Moosters lose their minds over KU. Jealous of the success. As to buyouts, Gill's $6M buyout was made within 2 months of his termination as per his employment contract. It was funded entirely by boosters including Dana Anderson who footed $800k of it.

The canard "How many coaches is KU paying!?!?!?" was always dumb and factually incorrect. They've technically never been paying more than 1 at a time. But then, would we expect any diff from a Mooster?

Well, bambi saying you're terrible is a badge of honor, so I've got that going for me.
