I cannot ****ing wait to see the remake of Salems Lot coming to Max in October. I liked the last remake with Rob Lowe.

I think that was the only movie (the original) that gave me nightmares. "Dawn of the Dead" no problem even at a young age. For some reason my parents and brothers and sisters let me watch it right before my 3rd birthday.

"Speak No Evil" (it's a remake) comes out today which may motivate me to venture into the unwashed masses and into a movie theatre.

The original had me looking away from the screen for a few moments out of discomfort and I'm a horror move veteran.. James MacAvoy plays a really good nut job so I'm pumped to see him.

The original:

Speak No Evil is getting 85% positive ratings across the board on Rotten Tomatoes. That's pretty damn good.

the original was really well done.

Hoping for more of the same, or even better.

The original was so, so, so good.

This is probably pretty terrific as well.

In A Violent Nature is pretty great and my kind of horror movie

I can see some being turned off by the way its filmed though

Its basically your standard stalk and kill character but is mostly filmed from behind him as he stalks through the woods and kills a bunch of people

They also use some sensory tricks such as an elongated car horn honking and other drawn out noises to create overall disturbance

Anyway I loved it. It has one of the best kill scenes I've seen in a long time

Been diving into some Folk Horror lately

I posted this in the New Movies thread but it leans more violent crime thriller than what I'd consider horror

Ben Wheatley's Kill List from 2011 is pretty good (Shudder). Hitman coming out of retirement for money encounters some wild shit. It could be a little artsy in the filming for some but I enjoyed the unsettling nature of it. Same actor as the movie linked above

Whatcha'll watching this October?

Watched Caddo Lake last night on Max

This was really well performed and produced. Super clean and artistic camera work with some legit story lines

Wouldn't call it horror but more like some M. Night As-salamu alaykum type of unsettling supernatural with some time travel elements that are always hit or miss (both in this movie)

I'd give it a solid B just for the filming and performance. Story got a little loosy goosy towards the end but otherwise entertaining

EDIT: After watching the trailer to include in this post, it is an M. Night As-salamu alaykum movie LMAO

Finally saw Late Night with the Devil. Love the whole way the story is told/framed.

The end got a bit wonky but it was very unique and well done.

Speak No Evil (2024)
7.5/10

I saw the Dutch version of this a couple years ago and liked it, including the pitch black ending which kind of sticks in your throat. This being the American remake, the hopeless ending is lightened a bit, but the final shot tells you that some of the damage is permanent. Two couples meet on a holiday in Italy and, soon after, more time together is arranged. Ulterior motives ensue. James McAvoy makes a meal out of his part, while Scoot McNairy, an actor I generally like, plays a bit of a weepy bitch counterpart. In fact, there's a very obvious effort to give his wife the dude energy once things go to shit. Nonetheless, I liked it, while giving the nod to the uglier original.

This one surprised me. Was a little over-explained at the end, a little more subtlety would have been nice. I realize that's a giant nitpick. Pretty good flick though, really enjoyed it

Saw this the other night. It's really good. Best horror flick I've seen in a while.

I enjoyed Salem's Lot as well

It got a little Disney there for a bit but it was well done overall
