Had about half an hour of hail about an hour ago. Marble size and a few a little larger. This after spending the last ****ing 8 months getting repairs done from the last hail/tornado in July. Probably going to be glad I paid an upcharge for impact shingles.

More irony - back in May of '96 my uncle's house and several others in his neighborhood (Raintree Lake in Lee's Summit) were destroyed by a microburst. The couple who lived across the street were at the movies when it hit - watching Twister.

Did he work at Daves in Union, IA?

ptlyon 03-14-2025 07:58 PM

Might have. Don't know where he worked. Lived in Marshalltown,. Don't have my contacts in, but they seem close together. Crane wouldn't be located at the place of work anyway.

Had a nickname that stemmed from his last name.

Could have then. Dave's crane did a lot for the movie. I taught in Union. Pulled me out of the ditch for free and had the owners son in class. Also gave money for a mini solar car project I did.

He was the nicest guy. Would do anything for any body.

But, had glasses that I swear you could see the surface of Mars with they were so thick. Made his eyes huge in them.

On the set, he saw Helen hunt. Went up to her and introduced himself. She turned and yelled "Security!", or so legend had it.

Every time he walked into the bar people yelled it.

I am sure of that. She was not nice. Shame, because she is great in Mad about you. A student met all of the cast. Everything parked on their farm. Said everyone was nice but her.
I had just moved there when filming was ending, otherwise being the local science teacher, I would have found a way to get in the film. I have a big red truck and a small 3-D Dorothy. There was a real one for sale 10 years ago and it went for a lot more than I could afford.

One of the best movies!!!

The most unbelievable part of that movie was that anybody would choose Helen Hunt over Jamie Gertz. :spock:

Also, just heard the first rumblings of distant thunder. Looks like the storm is finally knocking on my door.

14 dead after monster tornadoes sweep through Missouri, Arkansas causing widespread damage

BAKERSFIELD, Mo. – At least 14 people are dead in Missouri and Arkansas following a widespread and dangerous severe weather outbreak Friday evening after numerous tornadoes were spotted across multiple states, causing significant damage.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said six of those deaths occurred in Wayne County; three others were reported in Ozark County, while the other two were confined in Butler and Jefferson counties.

In Arkansas, three fatalities have been confirmed in Independence County, and 29 people were reported injured in eight counties in connection to a storm system that moved through the state overnight, the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management said.

This shit was pretty much played out by the time it got to me. Some wind, a few minutes of heavy rain, one nearby lightning strike that rattled the house and scared the **** out of the cats, and it was gone. Heard another area's tornado siren going off in the distance, but I don't think anything came of it.

Been coming down hard since 5. I imagine we've gotten 4 inches of snow and it's still coming down. Trees are caked with heavy wet snow with 30 mph winds. Some tree branches are coming down and some people out of power. 20 miles north they aren't getting anything. Just sitting and churning over us and south.
