CP server firewall is like the Chiefs offensive line in the Super Bowl, trying to block the bots.

The bots loaded up during the Royals game yesterday. It was almost impossible to post during the game.

I love CP. However, when it takes 45 seconds to a minute to post, change to another page, or respond, I'm bout done.

Guest access has been off for a while now. The issue is that this isn't far off from a DDOS attack - even a bot that gets a login page takes up server resources when it's at a scale of thousands of hits per minute.

As far as I know, we basically self-firewall, so there's nothing outside our box to keep the bots from hitting us even if they're ultimately denied.

About like me hitting refresh on the boobs thread.

I'm installing some extra bot blocking software now but it will take some tweaking.

Going forward, I hereby commit to deleting cookies and defragging my drives every time before I log into CP.

Make sure Windows defender is also enabled. Also look at installing Lifelock for faster cpu speeds.

Seems like it's the https version that uses "www" that leads to this (https://www.chiefsplanet.com). If you just do https://chiefsplanet.com, that seems to be OK.

Still, that should be something fixable.

I wonder if some of this is DNS propagation (which can take anywhere from hours to days). My Chrome was doing it earlier but now seems fine.

I know its not a cookie issue either because I had opened up first thing on this computer to it and I clean all cookies every time I exit each day.

The main landing page isn't allowing me to login. It generates redirect error but not at the browser level, it's in the vBulletin UI. If I can get a screenshot, I will.

I'm finding that on Edge I get the Royals planet skin, even though I changed it to "Full Featured (unfiltered)" and saved it. Hardly a big deal, but it appears to be an edge thing.

I'm just a spectator at this show, but my understanding is that we're now behind Cloudflare, which should make a BIG difference with the bots. It's not 100% foolproof, but the fact that we're now down around 500 "guests" vs 50k tells me it helped a ton.

What are those?

"Work" just forces them into the "At Work" theme (that you can pick from the menu in the bottom-left anyway). It removes avatars and mutes the color scheme. I think the idea back in the day was that it would be less likely to attract the attention of your boss looking over your shoulder.

"Mobile" forces you into a (very antiquated) text-only version of the site that worked reasonably well...back in the era before smartphones. These days, Tapatalk or the normal site usually get people by.

I can't imagine either of those are a huge loss to anyone.

It was just a link to a static page. It's was perfect. I actually used it a few times.

Put that button back and advertise that it works that way but link it to a goatse page.
