Guy's a technician too. He's got no business being just as good with a club as he is with fully functional hands. |
Thuney is to the Chiefs what Simply Red is to ChiefsPlanet

Thuney is our new first one in, last one out hero. Goodbye Anthony Sherman.

Smith was wishing he'd have just blown up the DE.

He’s an All-Pro getting guaranteed All-Pro money. Glad to see someone earning that FA money on every play. Great addition to the team.

Absolute baller. Hasn’t missed a start in his career either despite his ****ed up hand. Worth every penny we paid him thus far

This was Veach’s Tyrann type of signing for the offense. Fantastic FA signing.
Just an incredible fit and worth every penny. |

Would save us a lot of money if we went that way. I think it should be considered |
What happened to brown?
|
Quote:

I hope they at least seriously consider switching him, he looks ROCK solid over there
|
Thuney at LT, Brown at RT?? HMMM
|
JTLT LETS GO
|
Thuney with a MAN sized performance at LT so far. Haven’t even missed Brown.
Would be huge if we could move him to LT next year with his contract and just find a LG and a reliable RT in the off season. Would save a shit ton of money on the salary cap in terms of the contract they would need to give Brown to keep him. Surprising and interesting development today. We’ll see how the second half looks . . . . . . |

Brown would not sign a new contract as a RT.

0 QB hits allowed
0 pressures allowed 0 sacks allowed 0 penalties He was dominant in Tampa. Our best OL. Creed is right there with him but Thuney is still the best. Great signing |
What a great FA signing he was.
|
He's been great. I'm glad he didn't go the route of most New England FAs and blow dicks.
Also helps to have him next to our most inconsistent lineman in Brown Jr. If it were Trey Smith at LG and Thuney at RG, I think we'd be a hell of a lot worse for it. |

Can you imagine how bad the left side of our O-Line would be if Thuney hadn't been a home run signing? Yikes. |
We signed a GUARD to an 80 million dollar contract after Patrick got smashed in the Super Bowl.
And it was worth every freaking penny. Take a bow, Joe. Thanks for obliterating the Eagles and bringing another title to Kansas City. |

Still true!! |
Eat shit New England.
Thanks for giving us one of the best guards in the league. |

Seriously. Sometimes the guys you let walk could have been helpful for your organization. You'll never know that, though, because there ain't a single one of them other than Brady that you'll ever re-sign. |
Thuney was an amazing signing. Our team outsmarted the cheating patriots to steal a great player who is now wearing a Super Bowl ring.

Besides Thuney has more fun with the Chiefs because he gets to do a "Merry-go-round" play.:p

I've seen a couple of rumors (unsubstantiated) that Thuney is considering retirement. Anybody else heard this?
|
Havent' seen anything on it.
That would be walking away from a big chunk of change right? |

He needs to play through the next season and then retire to have a significant savings. Looking at over the cap if he retired after June 1 this year it would be a whopping $500k savings. If the way retirements hit the cap has changed recently then ignore the above and please link because I could not find it. :) |
Assuming you can’t split the retirement cap hot over 2 years, only $2.3M saved per my math.

He’s not retiring. There hasn’t been one mention of it
I will say I hated the signing at the time. Because it was at the same time we were pursuing Trent Williams, and boy did I want that to happen. But this has been one of Veach’s best moves. He’s so ****ing reliable. Just plug him in and forget about it |
Quote:
FWIW, I said "unsubstantiated" in the original post because that's exactly what it was. A couple of rando's in the comments saying they heard he might be retiring. I just wanted to mention it here in case anybody had heard something. |
If Thuney stays and the Chiefs win it all again, he will be tied for third in most super bowl wins by a player. The list is long at 4 wins, but still pretty impressive. If he stays and wins 2 more, he will be one of the top 3 players in super bowl wins. Tom Brady has 7 and Charles Haley has 5.

Some of us (myself included) lost sight of the simple notion that just because LT is the most important position on the line, that doesn’t mean you let the rest of the line rot in pursuit of your top priority. We had mostly adequate LG play (not counting the Bucs SB) but the point was that we don’t aim for adequate, we aim for stellar. A **** awesome G was available. So get a **** awesome G when you have the chance. Didn’t have to be any more complicated than that. |

About the only time he's even discussed is when people talk about moving him to LT. Freaking love dudes like that. Great job by both of them, - Joe Thuney and Brett Veach. |
So why are we even talking about him retiring again?

He was phenomenal in Super Bowl LIII and LVII. Impressive shit.
I was worried about this deal given the history of New England FAs, but he's earned his keep. |
Ranked as the 2nd best IOL in football on ESPN's rankings from league personnel. The guy is Mitchell Schwartz, except he plays G. He's worth every penny. He's an iron man who is the same guy every game. An outstanding technical savant.

Quote:
I’d have the OL as: Roaf Thuney Humphrey Shields Schwartz That would be a badass OL. Probably recency bias, but these are the best years in Chiefs history so it’s not too ridiculous. Obviously you can’t argue Roaf and Shields either. |

My armchair read is that Waters was a mauler and superior run blocker, but that I'm taking Thuney in pass pro. |

Since Mahomes is obviously the QB, I’m valuing pass pro over everything. Not really a wrong answer between Waters and Thuney though. |

Len Dawson Priest Holmes Mitchell Schwartz Tyranny Matthieu Who else is on the list? I'm bad at remembering how we got guys. |
