If you’re watching the talking heads....be prepared to hear that we won’t be able to stop their running game. It won’t matter that we just stopped Henry. They’re going to repeat that bullshit narrative over and over again.

Any chance we run the "super bowl defense" the Patriots used to slow down the Rams last year? They used a 6-1 front (six on the line of scrimmage) and were able to contain those zone runs and kept a lid on crossing routes off play-action. I bet Daly has at least talked it over with the defensive staff - wouldn't be surprised if they use it some.

Is there any doubt, especially after yesterday, what our defensive plan is gonna be?
Spags is going to make Garoppolo beat us, end of story. |

49ers to wear white jerseys, gold pants at Super Bowl By Kevin Patra Around the NFL Writer Published: Jan. 20, 2020 at 01:18 p.m.Updated: Jan. 20, 2020 at 01:25 p.m. The San Francisco 49ers will wear traditional road attire in Super Bowl LIV. The Niners will don white jerseys with gold pants when they take on the Kansas City Chiefs, Sunday, Feb. 2 in Miami, the team confirmed Monday. The Chiefs, the designated home team, will wear their dark jerseys. The NFL alternates home and away between the conferences each Super Bowl. For Niners fans bummed Kyle Shanahan's squad won't be sporting the popular all-white uniforms, take solace knowing San Francisco is 2-0 in Super Bowls donning the white-gold combo. The 49ers beat the Bengals in Super Bowl XVI and the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XXIV wearing white and gold. |

I think it was the last Seahawks vs 49ers game, but the commentators brought up the fact that teams know Jimmy G's comfort zone is throwing over the middle. He struggles throwing outside the hash marks. If we're able to contain the run and take away the middle of the field, I like our chances.

Like most teams- they will have to abandoned their run game when they go down by 3 scores in the second half.

49ers have a really good O line too. This game is gonna be close but ultimately Chiefs win. Mahomes and company will not allow Reid to lose this game
|
Looking at last year's matchup we are basically playing the same defensive team minus Bosa and Dee Choker. Mahomes had 314 yds and 3 TD's and the 49ers rushed for 180 yds and lost by 10.
|
You guys were right about some things. I underestimated the 4 week road trip and the physical toll all those carries had on Derrick Henry.. and the oline as well. You got the Titans at a very good time.
The 9ers are a physical team like the Titans, only they'll be rested and ready. I fear what their physicality will do vs your team |

9er fan here. I come in peace.
This is a scary Chiefs team that I’m not too thrilled to be facing. I’ll take my offense vs your defense any day of the week. But your offense... that’s a nightmare. This game ultimately goes down to can we get to Mahomes. *If* we’re able to get there, all that speed the receivers have will be irrelevant. |

I suppose Mahomes probably wont out gain your entire team by 50+ yards by himself like he did against Tenn but he may get close. |
This is going to be a great game regardless of rooting interest.
9ers dline chasing Mahomes around as he makes the extraordinary look routine with all the skill talent and Reid drawing up brilliance on one side and Spags dueling Shannahan on the other. I will guess chiefs win bc Mahomes is a transcendent talent who covers up the flaws. |
I think I'll just enjoy the win for a week and then start to dig in. Last night was literally once in a lifetime for most of us. It's worth savoring.

Guess it goes both ways. Your D doesn’t get nearly enough respect same as our O. The titans are basically the 9ers??? LMAO!!! We’re on a different level than those guys offensively. Shanahan is an elite play caller. We have won many different ways. The RB’s being the ones that carry us to victory. Jimmy G dueling it out with Drew Brees. The D dominating. I mean no disrespect but, shut down Mahomes (which I’m sure it’s impossible to do) and the Chiefs have nothing. |

It will be very tough bc they have a strong OL and Kittle is the best blocking TE in the league. |
The 49ers pass defense is vulnerable. I feel like they are similar to the Titans in that respect, but obviously they can generate a pass rush with just their front four, whereas the Titans had a difficult time with that. The 49ers have allowed elite receivers to go off on them - it doesn't seem like they're able to scheme away a team's top receiving threat. Julio Jones had 13 catches for 134 yards and 2 TDs. Michael Thomas had 11 catches for 134 yards and 1 TD. Davante Adams just went for 9 catches and 138 yards. With all of the weapons the Chiefs have, the 49er's defensive backs are going to have a really tough time if that pass rush isn't applying pressure quickly.

We beat both basically without a QB. |
Biggest thing worrying me about this game is the 49ers pass rush. Bosa, Armstead, Buckner and Ford are the best pass rushing front 4 in the league and we all know the best way to beat a great QB is dominating up front with 4.
But I think Andy will have a plan. I think there will be so much misdirection and fakes, audibles to quick draw runs, screens etc to confuse that DL if it’s a pass or a run. Either way our guys did an excellent job against Jurrell Casey and Jeff Simmons yesterday. We will desperately need the OL to have a solid game. Fully expect to have Bell motioned to Bosa’s side. Also keep in mind that Daly coached his DL against this offense in the Super Bowl a few years ago. He’s got that experience. |

Ouch this 9er fan is walking on thin ice. Let me help..
This chiefs defense is very much improved.. i thought it was because they had played some bad offenses but they shut down henry when no one else could.. How much of that was the chiefs d vs henry overused the past few weeks i'm not sure. Also henry's hamstring was flaring up by the 2nd quarter. But the chiefs were able to stop henry with 9 in the box. Shanahan will have more success however, as he is not mule headed to keep calling the same play repeatedly trying to impose his manhood, or henrys manhood.. regardless, the 9ers have much better play callers. It will be interesting to see if the chiefs are able to keep up their success. Of course they did give up 24 points to a one dimensional offense with a retread journeyman quarterback who cant play in cold weather though. The Titans did a good job with kelce. Think they focused on him a little too much and let others make too many plays. Also the chiefs were wanted for the super bowl so the refs called the game that way so we'll see how the super bowl plays out. I'm expecting a high scoring game, with the 9ers getting a defensive score or 2 and mahomes throwing to his speedy finesse recievers. |

You have every right to bitch about referees, as I'm sure the Tits got screwed on some calls this season (like every NFL team)... but that AFCC was called very well. |
The Vikings, Packers, and Seahawks are all run-first NFC teams. The 49ers made those teams uncomfortable by taking away the running game. The Chiefs really don't care about running the ball. We don't look to "establish the run" - we just use it situationally and occasionally to keep teams honest if all they are doing is rushing the passer. I could see the 49ers taking away our longer developing routes on several plays because their pass rush is so good that those routes won't have time to develop. But I have to think our screen game and short passing game is going stress that defense either way. Might be a big YAC type of game for our offense. Quick slants over the middle to Hill, Watkins, Hardman are going to be tough to defend.

This is a little misleading because Ford, Tart (our starting SS), and Kwon (or best coverage LB) didn’t play against the Saints and Falcons. Our nickel CB was also in the concussion protocol for the Falcons game. And Adams got his yards in garbage time yesterday. That said, Mahomes’s mobility and uncanny ability to throw on the run can negate the rush. Wilson and Kyler Murray gave us the most trouble. I expect the Chiefs to get into the 30s, but I think we can, too. |

I’m a visitor here so I’ll take the high road and keep it peaceful... I 100% agree. This is why my original post stated that it’ll take the pass rush to get to Mahomes to negate that speed the Chiefs WR have. If we can’t get to your QB before routes develop, it’ll be over by halftime. |
The 49ers are the toughest matchup in the NFL for the Chiefs.
The Chiefs can struggle if you get pressure w/ 4 because they can't run the ball efficiently enough to slow the DL down and the screen game just hasn't been very good. So teams that can send 4 and create havoc can keep 7 in coverage and do enough to clog up passing lanes and/or disrupt the timing of the offense. With Bosa, Armstead, Buckner and (yes) Ford - that's a lot of guys that can **** stuff up on the DL. It's a nasty front that can make things difficult all day without having to send extra defenders. On offense they have genuine game-breakers out of the backfield in Mostert and Breida, who are both very elusive and very quick. Henry isn't as shifty or quick - he gave you a target to hit. The Niners backs don't and Shanahan runs the most interesting running attack in football right now. He's just got a damn nice scheme. Moreover, if you sell-out to clog rushing lanes, Samuel's emergence as a deep threat along with Sanders as a stick mover and the dangerous Kittle mean that they can really hurt us if we give them an opening. I figured the Chiefs had a real nice path to double digit wins against both Houston and TN, but this 49ers team is a different critter. The Chiefs can obviously win the game, but they need to play the best game (ALL 60 minutes) that they've played all season. None of these brutal 3rd down drops. None of the coverage breakdowns and none of the stupid penalties. They have to play incredibly well. Their previous 2 opponents simply weren't at their level talent-wise. They could give a B- effort and beat two overmatched teams. The 49ers ain't overmatched. Not on paper and not in the coaching staff. This is gonna be a dogfight and if the Chiefs come out flat, they'll lose it. They have to come out sharper than they've come out in the last 2 games. |
