Half-hearted bump. Hopefully they'll finally fly the damn thing today.

Bumping these too...

Go for fuel load. Delay = likely scrub now.

Technical webcast is live at least. They must be getting tired of putting a lot of effort into broadcasting scrubs. :)

Which links shows the live trajectory?

Fingers crossed...

Whoot!

No scrubs today! Now we just need a successful mission...

Now if they could land this thing, it'd make all the waiting more than worth it...
|
LOL...I bet it blew up. (First stage for those reading this later - they lost signal.)

I suppose it's possible it still made it. It's close enough that I think all legs could have been on solid "ground." Still, when the feed cuts out like that, it doesn't seem promising. |
Maybe...
@spacexstatus 2016-03-04 23:54 UTC Unverified reports that the #Falcon9 first stage experimental landing was a success. Not anything close to an official feed though, so I'm skeptical. |
This was over the house just now. It must have been a sign that SpaceX was a go.. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...dfe4361cba.jpg

Aww.

The videos of the launch are terrible. They in no way show how cool this launch looked at the Space Coast.

Barring any setbacks in the next few days, we should be on track for the CRS-8 (ISS resupply mission) launch Friday at 4:43pm EST.
Sounds like they're trying for the barge landing again on this one even though they could RTLS just because they're tired of not making it. |
|
T-5 hours. I actually won't be on during the launch itself this time (meeting until 3pm Mountain), but hopefully I can keep up with it covertly.
I'm feeling optimistic about this one. |
It sounded like the expected to pull it if this time. Excited to see the outcome.
|
Quote:
Sure would be nice to get that one under their belts so they can stop worrying so much about landing and start worrying about re-launching! Also, FWIW, this one is an instantaneous launch window (as all ISS launches are), so it'll go at 4:43 EST or it won't go at all. -- Another FWIW, this is a NASA launch, so you can watch coverage on NASA TV in addition to the typical SpaceX webcast. I think they start coverage way earlier if you want more, though I find their style to be pretty dry. :) |
|
No delays this time, and SECO is done. Now land the damn thing!
|
Whoa! Live video! And they landed it!!!!
|
Stuck the landing. Beautiful shot.
Whoot! |
Nailed it!

In the shots they showed of it from the barge itself a minute or so later, it looks perfectly solid. |

HD (4K if you can do it) version of the landing from the chase plane. It definitely hops a bit there right when it lands.

While we wait on some pics of the booster coming back, would you guys mind giving me some feedback on this thread itself? I enjoy having a place to chat about this stuff, but I'm well aware that about 1/3rd of the posts in here are mine. I don't have a problem with that since I'm doing a lot of posting from around the interwebs, but I don't want to go so crazy with it that it's annoying to have the thread bumped all the time with boring info either.
So if you would, let me know what you think. I'll add a poll just to give me some concrete numbers, but just generally let me know if you think the level of content I post in here should be 1) slowed down a bit, 2) kept about the same, or 3) dive even more into the minutiae into things like launch schedules, press conferences, etc. Oh, and thanks to those who have let me know they enjoy keeping up with this stuff privately. I know there are at least a few - I just want to gauge interest from others. :) --- EDIT TO ADD: I could also be convinced to re-brand this as the "Space Megathread" and talk about other cool space shit, but I don't want to overlap with Fish's science thread too much either. |
I think you have a good balance going. Enough to keep those of us interested nicely informed but I doubt it can be all that annoying to others to have a single thread that gets bumped. I also like having this specifically about the first private companies' forays into the rest of the Solar System.
If others have a problem with this or the science thread maybe we will have to start a science forum. :) |
This thread is AWESOME! I know this thread has done a lot to help me keep up with SpaceX and their activities. On more than one occasion I've used this thread to gather the neighborhood kids to watch. I can't say any will become rocket kids, but they think it's cool and that's the first step.
So please keep it going.. |
Keep it up DaFace. You're providing a valuable service you the community. Many are keeping track of the future of space exploration here but not posting. The 18,000 views and only 466 posts back that up I think.

Do whatever you want face. I love this shit but have nothing to add. If you post more I'll read it. If not, cool.

It's a great thread DaFace. Good for The House.
|
Thanks for the input, all. It's a small sample, which isn't surprising, but sounds like we're in about the right place. I might do a little more in between launches for stuff like Gwen's (SpaceX president) talk at a convention in a couple weeks that might give us some ideas of what's coming down the road, but otherwise I'll just try and do as I have been - bump the thread a few days out from a launch and post cool stuff until the news slows down again.
I'm gonna delete the poll too since we don't need it up there forever. |
Nice set of pics from the ISS photographers here. A couple of my favorites:

Found on the SpaceX Reddit. Thought it was pretty cool for those curious about the ASDS return trip.

Any time I feel like I'm a big nerd about this stuff, I peruse the SpaceX subreddit and see things like people about to drive a couple hours at 2am to try and catch the ship coming back into port.
