I always wondered why Marty seemed so cold about Derricks passing the History of the Chiefs documentary, but I realize now that he was saving it all for this day.

I'm glad our Brother is finally home.

Does anyone else feel it? Does anyone feel that there is finally closure? DT is finally inducted into the Hall of Fame, Marty balling, Neil Smith in DT''s pro bowl jersey, and Carl making the speech of a thousand life times. Does anyone else feel that we are truly beginning a new era of Chiefs football? I'm sorry, if this sounds melodramatic, but I'm still trying to compose myself. I was balling like a little girl.

Pretty much does feel that way....Carl def. got rid of the sour taste out of my mouth from the last several years with him. This speech helped.

Can we sticky the induction speech once it comes out?

So I am watching the highlight film of DT and Minneapolis decides to drop a couple tornados for the first time in years and my satelite goes out.

Yup i was gonna post the same exact thing. That era was fun, it got the KC hyped about the chiefs year after year, but it ran dry, and its now time for a new era in Chiefs football. This just pretty much ended the chapter.

In Houston in the 1993 playoff game, we were down 10-0 and Willie Davis had just dropped a 50 yard TD pass. Marty that day went to the defense and said over and over: "Keep Grindin'... Just keep grindin'"!!!

OnTheWarpath15 08-08-2009 09:06 PM

Everything I thought it would be.

During the preceding commercial break, ran upstairs to grab my DT home authentic, and decided to lay it on my lap, back up, with that familiar THOMAS 58 facing me instead of putting it on. For whatever reason, it just felt right.

For all Carl's failures, he knocked it out of the park. Just perfect.

Not ashamed to say, many tears were shed, and I felt as if that light Carl mentioned really had finally come back on. I only wish that Derrick himself had been here in the flesh to enjoy this honor - even though I know he was watching and enjoying from where ever he may be now.

RIP, Derrick. I hope you enjoyed this evening as much as every fan, teammate, coach, staff member and family member did.

Congratulations. It's well overdue, but you're finally home.

Derrick Thomas, you helped make Arrowhead Stadium what it is today. You aided in the revitalization of one of the greatest fan bases in all the NFL. You brought an energy to Kansas City autumns and winters I can't put into words. Lastly, you made me the Chiefs fan I am today. Without that loyalty, that passion for something so seemingly simple as a football team, my life would be emptier. I will never leave the Chiefs behind, and I will never forget you.

Note to several of you the term is bawling not balling. Sherron Collins can really ball but he rarely bawls.

JOhn 08-08-2009 09:31 PM

I was at work tonight and kept going to the lounge to see who was up next. EVERYONE at work knows what a KC fan I am, and especially of DT. My office is next to the lounge, and when he came up the bellman called me on the radio so I could come watch.

I was able to sit in the employee lounge for the entire DT segment, along with a couple other football fans. Needless to say I shed several tears. Even though I was at work, and the only manager there tonight, everyone went out of there way to make sure I was not bothered by some dumb ass guest during the ceremony. The other 2 guys in there watching with me, both said they to shed a few tears, even though they were not KC fans, and one was to young to remember him.

After wards I went out, and all my employees were really cool about expressing congrats and and a kind word, as they knew how much seeing this meant to me.

Damn I'm getting teary eyed just writing this.

RIP Derrick, you were one of the good guys. THANK YOU for all the excitement and rekindling my love of the CHIEFS & the NFL. And THANK YOU for all you did for KC, and the rest of the NFL.

And lastly THANK YOU for the kind words you spoke to me that night long ago in Westport, and sharing some of your time with a true fan and admirer.
I MISS YOU, and will always remember you

Munson 08-08-2009 09:33 PM

Derrick Thomas was the reason, and still is the reason that I became a Chiefs fan. I can still remember what it was like when the defense took the field, and made play after play.

I've been waiting all week to see my all time favorite player get inducted into the Hall of Fame. As much as I hate Carl Peterson, I have to admit that he gave a great induction speech. I couldn't help but shed a few man tears remembering what #58 did for all of us. It brought back all the memories of watching the Chiefs, going to home games, and even a playoff game, and memories of the Sea of Red yelling at the top of their lungs. I'm getting all pumped up thinking about it.

Even though he wasn't a first ballot HOFer like he should have been, he finally got his due. We all miss you, DT.

Absolutely. This is where the last piece of the old puzzle had to fall. I find it very fitting that we have a GM and a Head Coach who are as full-on about the tradition of Arrowhead, and the tradition of great football as ourselves.

There's more than just careers at play here. These are guys who despite their own success outside of KC, saw something very exciting to them when they came to play against us.

We're a special place that people who love football love to come to.

My wife hates football, and doesn't like the Chiefs because she knows I love them more than I love her. ;)

That said, she cried listening to Carl talk about Derrick and seeing Marty bawling his eyes out. Yeah, I'd say Carl drove it home tonight, and I'm incredibly thankful to that man for making DT a part of MY life as a Chiefs fan.

I got to spend a 1/2 hour after a DT radio show with DT, his friend, Neal Smith and myself talking Chiefs football back in 1996. He stayed for 1.5 hours after the show to sign autogtaphs. After the crowd thinned I asked if I could buy him a beer, he said okay but only if I joined them(DT had a pepsi) One of the coolest memories I have in life.

We were all so worried and flustered that Carl was going to mess this up, and he ends up being the best guy on the stage.
I'll say it; thank you Carl. You made me proud to be a Chiefs fan and proud to love this franchise, team, and every bit of the quiet magic that IS Kansas City.

It was a great final curtain for the old regime, but let's get moving on to Destiny. It's time to **** some shit up. It's time to strike fear in the heads and hearts of every opponent dumb enough to walk on to our field.
