Hope the Chiefs don't take them lightly. Its the home opener so hopefully they're jacked up for it.

They had a good last half of the season. Then they spent their firsts on a midget RB and an off ball LB and had last year’s #1 suspended for gambling.

Prime regression candidate. Late season momentum rarely carries over.

Furious George, especially the back half, played similarly to Hutch last year.

And our WR corps >>> theirs.

I am curious what Karlaftis does this year if Jones doesn't show up. Could be a lot rougher if he starts seeing double teams (which he struggled with in college). Just in general I am really reluctant to project any of our DL out from last year if Jones isn't playing as I think he made everyone else's life a lot easier.

As for WR corps, are you sure? I can say with certainty that I feel better with Mahomes throwing to our WRs versus Goff throwing to his, but I'm not sure our WRs in isolation ex-Mahomes are clearly better (especially if we're talking about an up-to-speed Jameson Williams whom we happily get to avoid).

Aidan Hutchinson is gonna test our new tackles early. If he can't get consistent pressure on Patrick it's game over. It's as simple as that.

Their OL could pummel our DL which could keep them in the game.

We were wildly the most efficient offense last year. Our WRs have another year to learn Andy’s system, and we added high talent guys in Rice and James.

People are sleeping on them due to lack of past production.

“ The Chiefs had the best offense last season, and it wasn’t close. They ranked first in expected points added per drive, and the difference between them and the second-ranked Eagles was the same as the difference between the Eagles and the 16th-ranked Packers.”

We will blow them out as we always do in the first game. Average margin of victory in the first game with Mahomes is 13 with only one game where we won by less than 10 points.

The Lions were hot in the second half of last season. Great offense, terrible defense. Reminds me a bit of our Vermeil era Chiefs... can score, but can't stop anybody.

If we can get a few crucial early stops, this may end up being a boat race, i.e. 21+ margin of victory. Our offense should have a field day. We already know Andy's teams come out firing on all cylinders to start the season (and after a bye)... no reason to expect otherwise. The Lions traditionally start slow; again, no reason to expect otherwise.

No turnovers. TDs instead of FGs. Get some stops on D. Victory.

Goff is very much like Alex Smith. If the plan is working and the offense is "on schedule" he can be pretty effective. He's a better thrower than Smith and more capable of making big-time throws, but it still requires things going according to plan.

Johnson is a pretty damn good OC. One of the better offensive minds around.

But defensively, I don't see them matching up well against KC or having the horses in the secondary or on the front lines to really give KC too much trouble.

If the Chiefs can get a league working and put more on Goff's shoulders, it can be a comfortable win. Probably a shootout - for a while, at least -otherwise.

Of course, I have gotten to the point where I'm assuming Chris Jones will not play in this one. Him playing could create a little more optimism in the defense for this matchup.

I’ve been having nightmares about Jahmyr Gibbs.

Our team is pretty different this year. All new bookends, new WR corps, terrible defensive line, missing Chris Jones, Sneed and Toney. I truly don’t know what to expect.

I’m just leaning into the fact that Reid’s had months to prepare for this one, which will make us a tough out for anyone. Plus we’ve got Mahomes so.. not going to worry too much.

I’d just really like a big win to start the year off right. If we lose or even falter too much, the pundits will be harping on our WRs and missing Chris Jones for another week and a half before our next game and I don’t want to deal with that shit.

My counterpoint is that's just all Mahomes (and Kelce to a lesser extent). And JuJu is gone. And you can argue some of their young receivers also benefit from more time in the new Ben Johnson (their OC) system.

The Lions are coming in undefeated and we haven't won a game. Hope we can hang with 'em and make it interesting in the 4th quarter.

Part of the reason we have zero wins is because Mahomes has zero TD passes. Just hope this changes against the Lions.

That's true. Also not really what I was talking about.

The Kansas City Chiefs will defeat the Detroit Lions handily, however, it will be late third quarter before Megatron eases up on the hand wringing worrying about if we will win by double digits or not.

Chris Jones will have paid over one million dollars to watch his stock go down, and the most braindead agent of all time will have allowed this spiral down the shitter he started to continue.

Dilphag9 weeps at the sight of a Chiefs team without Chris Jones, contemplating chugging the antifreeze, and TwistedPanties stares on speechless, slackjawed with a tendril of drool oozing from the corner of his mouth at the idea that the Chiefs defense got off the field a single time without the almighty 95 to save the other 10 defensive players.

Pete will watch on from the edge of his seat, looking for any reason to proclaim this team won't sniff the playoffs, and taking notes on which key contributors to the win should be denied amenities for their mistakes during a game we won.

In short, its going to be the greatest night of the year, with The Kansas City Chiefs returning to kick off the NFL season, drop the banner, then drop Jared Goff and the Lions like a bad habit.

The usual suspects with partake of their inaugural GameDay thread screech and squee, thread bans will take place, all will be right with the world and the Kansas City Chiefs will be 1-0.

The Chiefs will **** their asses, and make them humble.

Mecca 08-30-2023 01:09 PM

They have a lot of offensive weapons with a top notch line so they will most likely move the ball.

My guess is that they're going to run the ball liberally; test our DL's run defense without CJ and Omenihu.

Nnadi/Tershon/the ex-Raider are going to get lots of work.
