Assuming Toney applies himself and studies the playbook diligently, Andy will certainly get him on the field asap. All manufactured stuff at first, and probably not more than 5-8 touches for the first couple weeks, then more if he progresses well. Probably no more than 20 odd snaps/game (not touches, just offensive snaps) by season's end. But Andy and co. will want to see what they've bought as soon as practical.

He'll be lucky to get 2 touches a game to start off. |

Will he even be active vs Tennessee?

And hell, just putting him in the huddle and having him run guys off as a decoy has plenty of value if you aren't confident throwing him the football yet. You pair up him and MVS on a smash concept and you HAVE to respect him underneath, so you have him run a curl and the safety will have to monitor him due to his YAC ability. You could just send him out there to free up MVS or Hardman on a shot play if you wanted to. And honestly, he's demonstrated such good feel for space that I think he'd be really valuable in a scramble drill as well. He should get some time. Maybe 10-15 snaps on the offense and a dedicated presence as the primary returner. |

I really wanna test out our shiny new toy though... |

I'll be curious what the practice reports indicate. If he's limited today, that usually means he's a no-go for Andy. Gotta get a full week of practice in coming off injury before Andy will play guys with soft-tissue injuries. |

I’m also wondering if he starts at kick returner and pacheco gets more touches as an rb?
|
He's going to play against the Titans. It may only be a few snaps but he's going to play.

Oh yeah! Let's get this shit in motion

So I was watching a Chiefs podcast last night, and apparently Toney may or may not be a good punt/kick returner. He's only returned something like 16 punts/kicks between college and the NFL. And he had some drops doing it in college.
Now Toub is the best ST coach ever, so maybe it's just a question of coaching him up properly. No question the Chiefs coaching staff is the best he's ever been around, so there's plenty to be optimistic about, but Toney may not be our answer this season as a returner. Just saying. But it also means Toney may not be returning kicks/punts right now. |
