It was probably the Orioles GM that said this.

By the time Nate McClouth was Lough's age, he had already posted TWO seasons of 20+ HR in the major leagues.

I doubt David Lough EVER hits 20 HR in an MLB season. He might be more productive/able to match McClouth's production at this point in their careers, but there's a reason McClouth was an MLB regular at age 24 while Lough continued to toil in the minors.

McClouth also has a career OBP 80 points higher than his average (.250/.335). Doubt Lough ever posts a single full season in which he has that type of split. He'd have to hit .300 to post a .330 OBP.

Yes, the Rays price for Price is really high. So high, they might price themselves out of the market. What contending team can afford to give up the type of talent they're requesting back?

A star-level, established MLB hitter (Santana/Perez) PLUS an elite pitching prospect PLUS an elite position prospect at SS?

David Price is great, but that type of trade is so one-sided in favor of the Rays, I can't see anyone making it.

Consider this report: David Price Rumors: Rays asked Cleveland for Santana, Salazar, Lindor

Now figure out the KC equivalent. Yeah, not pretty.

Holy crap, they wanted Carlos Santana?!?!?

Uhhh.... at that "price", we're out on Price. The Rays don't want to trade him, they are asking people to make them an offer they can't refuse.

From what I can see on twitter, its not expected to be anything earth-shattering. Maybe its something about charity.

I agree and hope like heck something like that doesn't happen. I love me some Salvador Perez!

We have Shields for a couple more years, correct? Some of the earlier posts in this thread caused me some concern since they gave up so much for him.

He's a FA after 2014.

This is Shields last year, its why we've been talking about how we went all-in for 2013-14.

As far as I'm concerned, if we miss the playoffs this year, then we lost the Wil Myers trade.

The Royals exercised their club option for him for 2014, but he's a free agent afterward. Unlikely that we're able to re-sign him.

How about the Royals offseason grade Duncan?

KChiefs1 12-20-2013 10:47 AM

Are the Royals done until spring training?

We might sign a lower-tier SP for depth. Maybe to compete for #5 in a minor league contract with an invite to spring training. We could probably use a little more injury insurance for our rotation. There's always the chance for a surprise extension of one of our young players, too.

Aside from that though, (given we won't drop huge coin for a #2), I can't think of anything the Royals even need to do, much less can do.

I would give Dayton a B+ for this off season. With potential to bump up if they add another veteran starting pitcher or wisely trade one of Hochevar or Davis.

If we don't make the playoffs this year, its a failure. No way around it.

dmahurin 12-20-2013 10:57 AM

The twins just signed Kurt Suzuki.

No kidding, I am pissed now. For some reason I though it was a three year deal.
