I wish him well at his next stop. He was a bigger man than me to be able to swallow his pride and return to KC in the first place.

Paying for that big house and his wife's spending habits trumps pride everytime.
It's not like NFL gigs are laying around.

Somebody would actually hire Gunther Cunningham? The author of the worst defense in the league? The guy who was able to wring one whole sack out of the best defensive lineman in the draft? That Gunther Cunningham?

Apparently Greg Robinson isn't available. Nor are they able to find a corpse to prop up along the sideline.

Good god.

But by all means, TAKE HIM.

That's true enough.

I'm sure that Lions fans will be pleased to know that their new HC wants to replace the coach of the worst D in the NFL with the coach of the 2nd worst D in the NFL. That's progress you can measure.

I think he's an average to slightly above average D-coordinator when put in a situation where he can shape his defense (and not try to contort it to the whims of a !@#$tard head coach).

Well remember, Gun is the one that went to Carl with his "list" and then proclaimed, publicly, that Carl went out and got him every single player he needed to turn the defense around. Kendrell Bell was all Gun. And the results? You know the results. This was not about being handcuffed. If anything, Vermeil was handcuffed by Carl in terms of forcing Gun onto him.

And remember, Gun was out there throwing Vermeil under the bus and saying how it was great to be coaching for Herm, and went out and even got himself some new assistants to work with. He still sucked.

The only way Gun can be successful is if someone tough like Fischer or Marty hands him an already molded D and tells him to go call plays with those guys. Most coaches would be successful with the James Hasty's and the DT's and the Neil Smiths of the world. The issue comes in two, three years into his tenure, where the players start losing their discipline and accountability and he brings in misidentified talent because he thinks he can mold anyone into a football player. Chester McGlockton was all Gun convincing Marty and Carl that he could light a fire under Chet's butt.

At the end of the day, Gun sucks...

Would Schwartzie be interested in Herm? How about Dick Curl?

I want Gunther gone more than I want Herm gone. I'm glad as hell we didn't hire Schwartz.

IIRC, he even kept screwing around with DT too. And the moves he tried to do with DT turned out to be flops as well.

My thought exactly.

It's coming together slowly but surely.

Plus, if Gunther moves to Detroit... he can buy a home for like $500

LMAO

That has such a Billy Mays vibe; I love it!

Not surprising, give GUN a real HC and some talent and he can be effective...

Gun is a victim of Herms dumbassery... Not saying Gun is a great DC, but better than what HERM has bussed him...

Funny.....but answer me this.

How can he be in the running unless he's already been fired? I thought coaches weren't allowed to take the same job with another team.

I read somewhere that Herm had given the coaches permission to look for other jobs.

cdcox 01-16-2009 11:02 PM

Here's all you need to know about Gun:

1) he likes to run a blitz based defense.

2) his defenses telegraph their blitzes more clearly than any other team in the league.

Disguising a blitz is coachable. He is unable to coach the cornerstone of his defensive philosophy.
