Was there any indication of when we might know if he takes the job?

tyton75 01-06-2009 09:23 AM

I think Pioli is the best GM candidate available... and if we were to go out and do whatever it takes to get him, it would really give me a better feeling about Clark Hunts willingness to TRY to do whatever it takes to field a winner.

First two picks he made after being hired/promoted from being an OL coach in college to being put in charge of player personnel at Baltimore?
Jonathan Ogdan and Ray Lewis

Interesting. I had really hoped Clark would interview the Ravens candidates and perhaps a few others.

I understand completely, but with the high demands for Pioli, if you think he is the guy, which most everyone thinks he is the best guy out there, then you have to try to get him when you have the chance.

If Clark was to say we will call you after all the interviews are completed, I doubt the deal would happen.

He is a great person for the job, and a person that most thought KC could not have a chance at.

Yep! I hope he'll bring the same kind of players into the Chiefs if he's hired. I was wondering with all the roster turnover this last season and probably this season are we due some extra picks? This might also be an extra incentive for any GM prospect.

I don't quite see the high demand for Pioli. Cleveland seems to be backing off for the moment and Detroit was never going to be a good fit. It looks like it is KC or back to New England to be in a shadow.

He is in demand, he made his price tag so high with the Browns that it might have been his way of not wanting the job, or complete his interviews. Denver still has no one in place. As long as people think he is still out there he will be in demand.

From what I've heard he wouldn't have a problem going back to be in "a shadow". He's kind of in the drivers seat.

Yep, it has to be the right deal that he likes, I believe, to get him to leave.

From what I've read Cleveland is in love with Mangini which pushes Pioli away and in Denver didn't the owner say he was going to hire a coach first?

seems clear from the rumors/reports that Pioli is down to KC or staying with the Pats.

Which I don't think bothers him at all, but I would bet that if he backed off his high demands the Browns would be ecstatic.

This is John Clayton's blog. It doesn't mention today's report, but it does re-enforce the notion that Pioli isn't going to the Browns and Mangini is...

Mangini in line for Browns: Former Jets coach Eric Mangini apparently feels good about his chances for being the next coach of the Browns. He is calling assistant coaching candidates trying to line them up for spots with Cleveland. There is no question Mangini is the leading candidate for the job.
