If you could get him at around Logan money ($8 million per) on a short to mid-term deal that would be great. He is still young, with decent production thus far. The DL draft focus should be at End. Chiefs need to shelter Jones and challenge Bailey. Both have been nicked up, and another pass rush presence is needed.

Get Hankins at NT, and Boston at Safety and call it a day. Draft the rest....

In Andy’s combine presser last month, he mentioned that Tanoh is a player that would be an OLB in base, then moved inside with his hand on the ground in subpackages.

Houston, Jones, Bailey/Tanoh, Ford

That appears to be your front in the sub package. Maybe we will be going DB with our first pick.

Then we don’t need a NT that bad. Hamilton can fill that role.

O.city 03-17-2018 01:37 PM

I love kicking those rushers inside on pass downs

Mother****erJones 03-17-2018 01:38 PM

Hankins is an interesting guy. But as we saw, Logan saw the field a lot less as the season went on. I don’t think kc is look at NT for just a run stuffer. I think they’re going to want a disruptor

Nah. Whatever combination of scheme/personnel we've been using recently is ****ing trash against the run. If you have to, cut Bailey and bring someone in that's better.

When we drafted Tanoh, I thought he could be an extremely good value as an inside rusher similar to Chris Jones. They ended up ****ing him over and putting him at OLB where he had zero experience.

Not sure about OLB, but I think you’re going to see him step up in those nickel/dime packages. He’s too athletic for guards to keep up, he’s got long arms to hold off being held and he’s got a lot of strength.

I’m thinking that our staff saw how badly they ****ed up with David Irving and made It a point to get Tanoh, who is built exactly like him.

Red Dawg 03-17-2018 02:02 PM

Pretty clear most think the line is on worse shape than the back end. Maybe dl first two picks.

RunKC 03-17-2018 02:19 PM

Let’s recap what we know:

1. Andy said Tanoh will be an inside rusher on 3rd downs, meaning our front will be set in nickel/dime packages.
2. Veach mentioned that he thinks we will be scoring a lot of points and playing that way on defense.
3. Our LB’s appear to be set.
4. Andy mentioned Nelson will be a starter and we know Amerson was told to be ready for press coverage at the LOS.
5. We cut Ron Parker.
5. Safety now looks like even more of a giant bag of AIDS.

If we think we are scoring a lot of points forcing the defense to pass, it makes sense to have DB’s ready to take the ball away.

Safety is a position that a rookie can play right away as Sutton usually has 3 of them on the field is sub packages. Unless we suddenly sign someone, it looks like Safety will likely be our first pick of the draft...and there are a shit load of good ones in the 2nd rd.

Kelce and Hunt protested too, along with a few others IRC? So I'm not sure that will be a major issue although clearly some Chiefs fans have a mind full of ignorance which may make the powers that be think twice.

Hankins is my top remaining FA out there and IMO, even with S and CB huge holes/depth, NT remains by far the biggest void on this defense.

He fits the criteria of what Veach looks for for sure. But so did Honey Badger so I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Hankins and Boston make sense to me.

Ditto.

Both fits. Not a huge Boston fan, but he can be plug and play in Sutton’s scheme. Hankins is a younger Logan with more pass rush upside, and he can likely play all three downs if needed.

Sorenson needs a post June 1 cut designation. He’ll open up 3+ million.
I agree that West and Harris can become cut casualties, but until upgrades are signed, they will remain on the roster. Same for Witzmann. I think Bailey stays unless they find a major upgrade for sensible money.

So what? He played 0-1 tech in Indy. He obviously can do both. He’d be a good add. More upside than Logan and younger. Money and term are the factors, not the fit nor the ability...

It just goes to show that Ballard has no idea what he’s doing in Indy.

He signed a bunch of guys last year that didn’t help the team, hired Josh McDaniels, only to be spurned by him, and couldn’t sign any impact players in free agency again this year.

Indy is looking toxic.

You may have misinterpreted my post.

I’d take him on a 2 year deal but it’s silly to believe that he was cut because they moved from 3-4 to a 4-3, when they signed him coming from a 4-3.

There must be something else about the player that Ballard doesn’t like.

I totally get why no one wants Sorenson starting, but dang man... he is actually pretty good depth

Restructuring him would be fine, but we cant completely gut this secondary... we need to actually field a team this year

Do agree about Bailey though, he is atleast serviceable for now

Johnathan Hankins was PFF's #3 graded DL on run defense last season. Bennie Logan was 60th. While he wasn't great as a pass rusher he graded out higher than Logan and RNR there too. He's 25.

If he can be had for under $10 million per, it needs to be strongly considered. Rookie NT’s take a while to develop and there are a lot more DE talents in the top 70-80 picks in this draft.

Logan played 52% of the snaps and a lot of those were as DE in the sub packages we ran.

We are in sub packages a lot, and plan to use them even more next year due to the offense scoring points. Why take Tanoh off the field? I want that mother****er in there at every opportune moment since he probably won’t play a lot of OLB due to Ford/Houston taking the majority of those snaps.

Ballard is a dumbass. Simple. Sitting with the 4th most cap space at the start of free agency, and completely fails to bring in a single impact player, lets Melvin walk out the door to collect a 1 year deal for peanuts, he hasnt exactly been lighting it up in Indy.

Easy 6 03-17-2018 04:53 PM

Hankins would be great if we can swing it, it would open up the draft to BPA instead of need quite a bit

But as everyone knows D line free agency has been reeruned, so theres no need to cry a river if Veach cant land him on a reasonable deal... this guy isnt the end all be all, there will be serviceable players released during camp

1st and 2nd down exist in football still. Our run defense was a disgrace last season. Teams will try to ball control against us. Theoretically playing with a lead is fine. Being competent and sound on defense is warranted, because things won’t always be in the Chiefs favor. The book on us is in the playoffs lately has been to gash in the run game and limit offensive opportunities.

Teams WILL control the ball against us. That's quite an effective way to stymie an explosive offense like we plan to be, and our defense the way it is just invites teams to do it.

NFLPA salary cap report has us at just over $15M in cap space. More than originally thought.

Not sure who that may or may not include.

Spotrac.com has us at $12 million.

Ideally, hope Veach can add both a FS and NT before the draft so we won't have to draft for need, but get at least 1.

Yep.

After everything's been allocated, they have the Chiefs at $4 million, which includes $5 million for the draft

Spotrac says 11 mil cap space currently.

Wouldn’t the NFLPA report be the absolute most accurate number?

I’m still confused on Zombo. Not on the official team roster.

EDIT: Nevermind, they put him back on it.

Hankins is heading to the Redskins for a visit.
