Chiefs Cut Rookie WR After Failing to Meet Expectations

The Kansas City Chiefs have dropped the axe, cutting wide receiver Skyy Moore after three underwhelming seasons, sources confirmed to ESPN on Saturday. The move, a stunner for a 2022 second-round pick once pegged as a Tyreek Hill heir, ends a tenure that never ignited—leaving Chiefs Kingdom buzzing and relieved.

Moore, 24, arrived with hype from Western Michigan, touted for speed and route-running. But the spark never came. In 2024, he mustered just 23 catches for 316 yards and zero touchdowns—his worst stat line yet (ESPN). Across three years, he totaled 43 receptions, 494 yards, and 1 TD, a far cry from the dynamic WR2 Chiefs craved post-Hill trade. Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy soared; Moore floundered.

“Skyy didn’t meet the bar we set,” GM Brett Veach said curtly. With Marquise Brown re-signed for 2025 and rumors of draft targets like Isaiah Bond, Moore’s roster spot evaporated. His $1.5 million cap hit for 2025 (Spotrac) wasn’t steep, but KC’s patience ran dry after a 40-22 Super Bowl LIX loss to the Eagles exposed offensive gaps.

Rookie WR? Is Moore a rookie again??? Or do they mean that after 3 years, he still plays like one, and a bad one at that?
Im calling BS on this but hoping Im wrong.

No link provided to the source, inaccurate information (Skyy Less is not a “rookie WR”), no mention on ESPN as this article claims…

It’s 100% bullshit… why post it?

There’s a shitty click bait article out there that says skyy and the chiefs pick 1.31 got traded for 1.22 over all. My dad called me all excited and I immediately knew it was fake. You couldn’t trade to 1.30 with skyy and 1.31.

Shit, even the Veach quote is obviously nonsense.

It was like that 'story' that quoted Reid as saying something like "Xavier Worthy has earned the right to bang my wife and care for my pets..."

Guys, this entire organization says NOTHING. If you have a 'juicy' quote from a member of this coaching staff or front office, it's absolutely bullshit.

So possibly Skyy No Moore?

BossChief 04-11-2025 01:18 AM

Ok, hear me out. I’m going to play devils advocate for a minute.

Skyy Moore was a RB in HS and started playing WR in college. He’s a small school guy that most acknowledged predraft, that he would require some development. He will have a sense of urgency, as he is likely playing for his NFL life. Maybe this is the year it slows down for him and he understands the value of every single rep that he gets from here on out. He wouldn’t be the first player that turned things around in his 4th year in Andy’s system.

Personally, I’d love to trade him for a bag of chips and be done with it, but I’d also love to see the kid redeem himself.

New World Order 04-11-2025 01:35 AM

I actually moved him to RB in Madden a couple of years ago and then traded him to the Vikings and he ended up being one of the leagues best running backs and was like 95 overall.

There does seem to be some disconnect that shouldn't exist at this point in his career.

I don’t think he’s got it between the ears. You simply have to have a certain football IQ to play WR in this offense, and he just doesn’t have it. He just doesn’t look like a natural football player, everything he does just seems so forced because his brain can’t process everything and play at a high speed at the same time.

It's the only explanation at this point. He apparently puts in the time and effort and is a good teammate, but all that work hasn't amounted to him even being as good as someone like Byron Pringle or Albert Wilson. Hell, Dexter McCluster was a way better WR when we actually lined him up out wide instead of the backfield.

Reminds me a little bit of Russell Wilson. He made it a point to craft this image of him being the guy who works the hardest in the entire league, and he basically doubled down on that when he went to the Broncos. Then the hilarious collapse. Only difference is Russ is a hasbeen and Skyy is a neverwas.

Rainbarrel 04-13-2025 08:03 PM

If you can't knock him off his spot. Who's fault is that?

This just shows that there's a big difference between college and professional football. It seemed like a sure fire pick and for whatever reason, Skyy just couldn't figure out the pro game. Another CEH type pick; they can't all be great.

Best wishes to him in the next chapter of his career; don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I don't hate the kid, but putting up numbers in the MAC apparently doesn't translate to putting up numbers in the pros. Hopefully when he's done here, he can go reinvent himself in Canada or the UFL.
