Finally. God. Hunt's corner should have thrown in the towel.

DaNewGuy 05-09-2015 10:46 PM

Whatever you're watching sounds cool

alnorth 05-09-2015 10:47 PM

The ref, the doctor, and Hunt's corner should all be ashamed of themselves. That was ridiculous.

alnorth 05-09-2015 10:48 PM

Dana White is pissed on twitter that the doctor did not stop the fight after the 4th round. Thats unheard of.

alnorth 05-09-2015 11:09 PM

If this fight would have been stopped in the 3rd round like it should have been, it would have gone down as one of the greatest fight cards in modern UFC history.

Instead, due to reeruned macho Australian sensibilities where the ref and doctor both refused to call the fight when their hero Mark Hunt was involved, the main event severely tainted this card. That was hard to watch.

Yeah, it really was awesome. Too bad this got marred by that travesty of a main event, or it would have been one of the greatest cards I've ever seen.

raybec 4 05-12-2015 06:52 AM

Pettis and Khabib continue to take shots at each other over being hurt, while neither can fight twice in a row without dropping out due to injury. Just wacky

alnorth 05-12-2015 09:26 AM

RRR is on the cover of SI

alnorth 05-15-2015 12:30 PM

Massive new penalties have been approved in Nevada, the UFC will adopt them for regions that they self-regulate in with no AC, and Nevada is going to ask all AC's to adopt similar penalties.

Also, a failed test in Nevada will result in a Loss rather than a No Contest. New penalties are effective September 1st.

Sedatives, Opiates, and Weed

1st time: 18 months, 30-40% of purse
2nd time: 2 years, 40-50% of purse
3rd time: 3 years, 60-75% of purse
4th time: Life, 100% of purse

As before, MJ will still be banned only in-competition and only tested for on the night of the fight.

Stimulants (including amphetamines and cocaine)

1st time: 2 years, 35-45% of purse
2nd time: 3 years, 50-60% of purse
3rd time: Life, 100% of purse

Another change here: going forward, stimulants (including cocaine) will not be treated the same as MJ, and will now always be banned and will be tested for out of competition.

Steroids

1st time: 3 years, 50-70% of purse
2nd time: 4 years, 75-100% of purse
3rd time: Life, 100% of purse

Avoid/running from a test or using masking agents to beat a test

1st time: 4 years, 50% of purse
2nd time: Life, 100% of purse

ArrowheadHawk 05-15-2015 12:44 PM

Wow! Steep.

alnorth 05-15-2015 12:49 PM

The funny thing is, this is probably going to be forced upon boxing as well, and I imagine the boxing promoters aren't too thrilled, but Dana White and the Fertittas are powerful in Vegas, and they wanted new huge penalties for combat sports.

TimBone 05-15-2015 12:51 PM

Wooooow. Thpse are stiff penalties. JBJ better drop the coke habit.

BigCatDaddy 05-15-2015 01:11 PM

All the other major sports should adopt those.

KC native 05-15-2015 02:13 PM

Those penalties are a little excessive.

alnorth 05-15-2015 03:04 PM

Saw one clarification by Ariel Helwani wrt the failed test leading to a loss; a non-cheating fighter who lost to someone who failed a test won't get a win, they will still have a No Contest.

Also, diuretics are complicated. If they are detected "in-competition" for the night of the fight, they will assume you were using them to cut weight and the punishment is similar to stimulants, but with a slightly lower financial penalty.

If found out of competition, then they will assume you are using it as a masking agent, which carries the most severe set of punishments.

JBJ has hinted he might be done(albeit through his agent). This might seal the deal.

Bullshit. He is still young, and not very smart or talented outside the cage. I will believe that he'll turn down the chance for another payday only after he refuses to fight and is released by the UFC.

Indeed. The guys in the 'ol hood are buying this week's show...

alnorth 05-21-2015 07:28 PM

So, predictions?

I'm going Cowboy by KO, Belfort by submission, and DC by decision.

I would also be fine with it if Rumble somehow blasted through DC, but I just think he's going to get wrestled for 5 rounds.

Jerm 05-21-2015 07:34 PM

Cowboy by TKO...think Weidman washes Vitor w/o the magic juice so TKO there too, DC by boring UD.

Yep.

BigCatDaddy 05-21-2015 07:52 PM

Rumble, Weidman, and Cerrone all by KO/TKO.

Rumble in 1
Cerrone in 2
Weidman in 3.

Its part wishful thinking but there is some reasoning behind it as well. Rumble is so damn explosive early, Vitor fades a bit in fights and Weidman has shown KO power. Cerrone is just better.

TimBone 05-21-2015 09:16 PM

And how often have we seen Cormier knocked out?

And how often have we seen Rumble struggle with elite wrestlers?

Cormier is coming off a pretty sound loss and isnt getting any younger while Rumble seems like a different guy since coming back including a win over Phil Davis who is a good wrestler. Like I said half wishful thinking but crazier things have happened like A Sulva and Barao getting stopped.

alnorth 05-22-2015 12:44 PM

Cowboy said he will ask for a title shot in Denver if he wins. He figured he's been such a loyal company guy for so long that he deserves to not just fight for a title, but also pick the location.

If any body deserves it it's him.....anyone, any place, any time...no bullshit.

Predictions....Cowboy by Submission, DC by submission (Rumble will gas) Weidman by decision,

alnorth 05-22-2015 05:53 PM

Everyone made weight except for some random strawweight chick.

Weidman publicly accused Belfort of using PED's on stage at the weigh-in

Using now or previously?

now, he says his testosterone levels are too high. They aren't too high according to the parameters of the test (according to the rumors), but considering that Belfort previously had a TRT exemption and that Weidman says Belfort's at a higher level than him despite being older and having an exemption he no longer can use, it certainly is suspicious. Unless Weidman is completely wrong about his levels, of course. I have no idea Weidman could have even known about Belfort's level.

TimBone 05-22-2015 09:42 PM

Vitor just needs to call it quits at this point. He's like the official sponsor of steroids.

alnorth 05-23-2015 08:12 AM

From reading the opinions of medical and PED test experts, Weidman doesn't know what he is talking about. The urine test doesn't necessarily prove that Belfort is clean, but Belfort's result wasn't that unusual, and as far as his complaints that Belfort's levels were higher than Weidman's, the issue is not that Belfort's is too high, but that Weidman's is strangely low, and he should probably see a doctor to figure out what is going on with himself.

alnorth 05-23-2015 03:59 PM

The strawweight fight is off. Ansaroff has the flu and could not get medically cleared to fight.

Sucks for Rose, but Pyle's fight has been bumped up to the FS1 prelims, which is good. Pyle is too good to be stuck on fightpass, even for a card that is this stacked.

kcxiv 05-23-2015 04:08 PM

if his levels were too high, Dana would have outted him. Then again, some people just like to talk shit and it hypes the fight.

alnorth 05-23-2015 08:05 PM

Buckle up, this is on paper, one of the greatest cards this year so far...

In58men 05-23-2015 08:09 PM

dlphg9 05-23-2015 08:38 PM

alnorth 05-23-2015 08:53 PM

OK, well. That was really huge for Arlovski.

BigCatDaddy 05-23-2015 08:54 PM

Great round/fight. Usually Pitbull fights are boring as ****.

kcxiv 05-23-2015 08:55 PM

alnorth 05-23-2015 08:56 PM

The big 3 fights are next. Jesus, what a freaking massive setup for that, its almost hard to believe that there won't be some kind of letdown.

alnorth 05-23-2015 08:58 PM

Cowboy needs to take care of business. I'll be pissed if he somehow blows it.

alnorth 05-23-2015 08:59 PM

That was a round of the year candidate. (FOTY usually needs to be more than 1 round)

alnorth 05-23-2015 09:00 PM

Opening up a 25 ounce Budweiser for Cowboy now.

KC native 05-23-2015 09:16 PM

Cowboy is punishing his legs. Going to sap the power out of the other guy's hands.

alnorth 05-23-2015 09:16 PM

Yeah, I've seen Cowboy chop the tree down a couple times where the knee just gives out and his opponent can't stand anymore.

Those leg kicks don't look like much to newer fans, but they REALLY hurt

alnorth 05-23-2015 09:22 PM

Holy crap, Cowboy broke his jaw with a kick

KC native 05-23-2015 09:23 PM

Props on that guy for taking the fight.

Cowboy is a beast.

alnorth 05-23-2015 09:26 PM

Cowboy is obviously getting the title shot now. Thats gonna be a hell of a PPV.

alnorth 05-23-2015 09:28 PM

These title fights are gonna have to be pretty ****ing terrible for UFC 187 to not go down as being epic

BigCatDaddy 05-23-2015 09:39 PM

Man. Vitors body so much different off the juice.

alnorth 05-23-2015 09:40 PM

KC native 05-23-2015 09:50 PM

alnorth 05-23-2015 09:51 PM

Yes, didn't want to go to the bar to watch it because I'm half ass studying right now.

Watching it by myself and it's definitely been worth the $60.

KC native 05-23-2015 09:54 PM

I was hugely skeptical of Weidman after the Silva fights (and fighting a shop-worn Machida didn't help that).

He's much better than I had initially thought.

alnorth 05-23-2015 09:56 PM

I've got DC by a 5 round decision

KC native 05-23-2015 09:57 PM

I think Rumble gets the KO.

KC native 05-23-2015 09:58 PM

I don't think Cormier is big enough to manhandle Rumble and Rumble's going to catch him with one of those devastating uppercut.

Weidman called him out for still juicing.

"I left him alone with this whole drug-test thing," Weidman said. "But then we just found out during camp he had a 1200 testosterone score. I'm 10 years younger than him and he's got a way higher testosterone level. This guy is still cheating. I'm gonna make him pay for it tomorrow night."
