By the way, you need some more hay for that impressive strawman you are building.

I haven't seen any Mizzou fans, other than maybe Zach, who are thumping our chests about how we are somehow guaranteed to land in a great spot. All Mizzou fans had a nice helping of humble pie last year, so there's really no reason for anyone to get cocky.

Keep on fightin' the good fight though.

Actually, it was some other Mizzou fan I was having this discussion with. I have actually been quite impressed with how the actual officials at Missouri have handled themselves this time around.

But but but I thought basketball wasn't a player in this at all! St. Johns, Providence plays basketball only, they should be beyond worthless to BCS conferences. You still have Syracuse, UCONN and Rutgers. You can't have it both ways. Basketball doesn't matter, or it does matter.

You don't have to get the Big East to think those schools are dead weight. You just need to come to an agreement with the schools to make a NEW conference. If you can propose more money than they make now and stability, I don't think it matters much.

Football is absolutely what's driving it. That's the idea. Kicking out schools who don't even play football aren't going to make a difference either way, so why do it? The only reason to do it would be because you think the basketball version of the conference is getting too big. Unless those schools get football money, which I highly doubt they do, it's irrelevant.

Only way that happens is if the Big 12 schools invite the rest of the Big East into the Big 12. The non-football schools aren't leaving the Big East.

That is exactly what I am saying. Baylor, ISU, Kansas, KSU, Missouri and then the 8 football schools, throw in Villanova and have them come up to D1. I'm pretty sure that would force the hand of some of the basketball schools to agree to come over as just basketball, and if they don't, who really gives a shit.

HolyHandgernade 09-05-2011 12:06 PM

Wouldn't the simpler solution be to sign independent conference contracts for football and basketball?

Zach's got all the answers because he went to Columbia once and took some pictures.

Hahaha.... LMAO

That was the funniest ****ing thing of the day, so far.

ESPN is showing a HS Football game. I hope A&M doesn't want out of the SEC and its' ESPN contract now.

It's going to be funny when we spend a year bickering over this, and in the end the 5 Big 12 teams left will decide to pull in BYU, raid Conference USA, and keep on going.

Really, not a bad option. 5 member institutions = exit fees from the other 5. Or, roughly 30M/school.

Beebe can pay me a 15% consulting fee, and we'll call it even.

And I'm not sure how KU would survive in the Big East. What with all the fouling and stuff.

At least we wouldnt have to wait for the foul fests to be over... we would get to watch KU first...

I never accused you of being an *snicker* insider. That much is obvious.

I accuse you of being a pompous douche. In much the same way I accuse the sun of rising in the east and DaKCMan AP being Awesome.

:hmmm:

It was me...and if you read me correctly I told you that I'm less worried about who would want us as much as I am worried about how our Administration will screw this up.

It only turned into a different discussion when you tried to make it sound like we were in the same boat as KU.

Villanova has already said they won't jump up to D-1 in football.

I'm fine with expanding the Big 12, as long as we don't extend invites to Bucknell, Bradley or Northern Iowa. :-)
