Can't claim credit, I shamelessly ripped it off from another board.

On another note, bail was set at only $2,500. I assume Jon Jones will be out soon, which is good because I don't know if anyone else is willing to feed and take care of his weird exotic cat.

alnorth 04-27-2015 09:05 PM

The UFC must be stoked about these Baltimore riots.

alnorth 04-28-2015 08:53 AM

Anthony Johnson just said he will not fight unless its for the title. He's willing to fight anyone at 187, but only for the title. He also said that if they don't strip Jon Jones, then he's willing to wait over a year if he has to.

He's not an idiot, he knows what he's doing. I already think its very likely that they will strip Jon Jones, but this makes it even more likely because if they don't, then not only do they lose JBJ, they also lose one of their brightest young stars for a year as well.

It's a good move on his part, he has nothing to gain by fight anyone else unless it's for a title (except money)

Amd he had a chance to miss out.in a huge payday if he does fight. If he takes a fight now and loses.....bye bye title shot money.

TimBone 04-28-2015 12:40 PM

Also, let's not call Anthony Johnson a young star. The dude is 31, and this is his second stint in the UFC.

I'm starting to think, maybe, a little bit, that the UFC may try to weasel their way through this.

Before, I thought it was like 0.3% chance JBJ would fight in UFC 187. Now I think it might be 5-10%

As soon as you psoted Dana's tweet where he said it was a good meeting with Jones and his attorney, I thought the same thing.

alnorth 04-28-2015 08:37 PM

Step 1: Talk to JBJ and his lawyer, tell them to shut the **** up until further notice and turn himself in right now.

Step 2: Fly to NM

Step 3: Talk to the DA, figure out if they are really going to pursue felony charges. (If so, then he can't fight, they don't want their reigning champion fresh off another victory to be sent to prison) If not, if its just a fine and community service, then we're good, proceed to Step 4

Step 4: Get the heartfelt apologies ready, rehearse it, make it look good. Get UFC statement and speeches ready, get it all over with before MayPac.

Step 5: Hopefully MayPac and the passage of time makes everyone forget

Step 6: Profit. Oh God, yes, profit.

Cormier has no shot at beating Jones.

The only way he is champ is if he gets lucky against Rumble.

And goddamnit.

I like Jones. I don't give a **** about the outside shit. He's a ****ing UFC fighter, not a politician, clergyman, etc

alnorth 04-28-2015 09:12 PM

As a fight fan I was getting a bit bummed out, and 187 is still not as good as it could have been. Setting morality aside and just looking at the sport, Rumble and JBJ would have been a good fight.

However, DC vs Rumble for the vacant LHW championship is also pretty good, and I'm now much happier to buy the card than I would have been if they had just lost the LHW title fight altogether.

I think he went into the last fight with a solid gameplan and then got too concerned with landing takedowns late in the fight. I'll have to rewatch, though. My memory is a bit fuzzy. I just remember feeling like he let the opportunity slip.

Also, I'll admit I've only seen a bit of Rumble since he's been back in the UFC and fighting at LHW, but in his first stint, fighters like Cormier are the exact kind of fighters he struggled with. We'll see.

Full Statement:

Quote:

UFC announced that it has suspended Jon Jones indefinitely and stripped him of the light heavyweight title as a result of violations of the organization’s Athlete Code of Conduct Policy. Jones was recently arrested in Albuquerque, N.M. on a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident involving personal injury. As a result of the charge and other violations of the Athlete Code of Conduct Policy, the organization believes it is best to allow Jones time to focus on his pending legal matters.

UFC feels strongly that its athletes must uphold certain standards both in and out of the Octagon. While there is disappointment in the recent charges, the organization remains supportive of Jones as he works through the legal process.

With this decision, UFC has determined that No. 1 contender Anthony Johnson will now fight No. 3 contender Daniel Cormier for the UFC light heavyweight championship at UFC 187 on May 23 in Las Vegas.

As soon as Jones' lawyer negotiates a probation plea bargain, he'll be reinstated.

Then he'll get the belt again.

Yeah. Its just a short vacation most likely and him having to play the challenger role will make a good story line.

alnorth 04-28-2015 09:46 PM

Until he actually loses a fight (the DQ does not count), I do believe that JBJ is the best LHW fighter at least until he finally loses to someone. DC vs Rumble will be entertaining though, and Jones needs to learn to not be an immature assclown.

jd1020 04-28-2015 09:46 PM

I think he'll be out for at least 6 months.

alnorth 04-28-2015 09:48 PM

Now we know what the comments by Dana and Jones were about. They weren't trying to weasel out of anything, they just wanted to pre-emptively answer the angry insane people who wanted the UFC to CUT Jones instead of suspending him.

He's the best LHW by far. He'll go down as the best LHW ever if he keeps dominating everyone.

Interesting quotes from an article by Kevin Iole:

Quote:

"There is a long list of things and this was another violation," White told Yahoo Sports not long after the decision was made. "You can only give a guy so many shots."

Asked if there were any other incidents involving Jones that played into the decision to strip him that hadn't come to public attention, White worded his answer carefully.

"There have been cases between Jon Jones and me and [UFC CEO] Lorenzo [Fertitta], definitely," White said. "Definitely."

He declined to elaborate. He also declined to describe Jones' mood or reaction to the news. "I just don't want to talk about him personally," White said. "He's being stripped of the title. He's being put on indefinite suspension and any question how he is should be directed toward him and his attorney."

alnorth 04-28-2015 10:00 PM

Apparently right after news broke a couple days ago that Jones might be in trouble, DC immediately started blowing up Dana and Lorenzo's phones, letting them know he was ready and asking for the shot if they needed him.

AKA churns out some of the worlds best, unfortunately that comes with a price. Rockhold, DC, Cain, Khabib, Thompson it's a gang of savages. They need to figure some middle ground on how to not go full speed in everything they do.

Not sure. I have fight pass too and I already watched most of the big historic UFC events. I hadn't looked at the other libraries yet, but I have heard that Cro Cop was insane and would have been a killer if his prime were today, so its probably a good call to watch his old fights.

I really liked Pride, loved the entrances and I couldn't care less if the fighters are juiced.

Critical Countdown 2004 is one of their best shows. Shockwave 2004 has some good fights. Final Conflict 2003 and Pride 13 are pretty good. Pride 17 is Cro Cop's debut show. The Bushido shows were OK but hit and miss. The Team Japan vs Brazilian Top Team was a cool concept.

SAUTO 05-09-2015 10:05 AM

Yeah I was never a fan of most of the bushido shows.

Hit and miss is the perfect term.

I'll go downstairs at some point and look through my old pride tapes and give you some good ones to find and watch

The undercard for this Australian Fight Night on Fightpass has been pretty awesome so far.

Sam Alvey probably made some money tonight, he looks pretty marketable. Came in with a sponsor spray-tanned on his chest, hammed it up to the crowd, and knocked out his opponent in less than a minute.

I hope Hunt and Miocic has some epic 5-round slugfest just so that we can say that one of the greatest modern-era UFC cards ever was not even ****ing televised or offered for PPV in the USA.

alnorth 05-09-2015 10:41 PM

Miocic has battered Hunt so much, that even he is exhausted from the whoopin' he's laying down on Hunt.
