Probably not, but it is in Texas.

It will have to be someone from a smaller conference. There's no way the Big 12 could convince a school in a bigger conference to come play with them.

Obama must have stepped in and put a kabash to dismantling of the current alignment, he was bound to find something he could do. :D

Iowa State is going to win the north this year. You can bank on that.

Utah is a more likely option.

FOX is already throwing money at BIGPAC11-11. Don't think that's an issue. I wonder if TCU joining would make one of the Oklahoma schools to move to the North.

Once you get to the university level, most Engineering professors do not have Education degrees. Most Medical Doctors (teaching or not) do not have Education degrees. Most Law professors do not have Education degrees.

Education is extremely important. However, graduate school for Education is not as important, IMO, as graduate school for Engineers, Doctors, etc. My dad has a graduate degree in Education. Many of my friends are working on theirs. However, most of my teachers growing up did not have graduate degrees in Education and I was still able to go obtain my graduate degree(s).

DeezNutz 06-11-2010 11:53 AM

Is engineering considered a "professional" degree? If not, linking it with law and medicine is tenuous at best.

Perhaps it is. Don't know, really.

IMO, a professional degree is a college degree which allows you to work in a particular profession that is not open to others without this degree.

In this definition, yes, an Engineering degree is a professional degree. You can't go be an engineer without the required education, just like you can't be a lawyer or a doctor without the required education. While a graduate engineering degree may not be required, IMO, engineering is one of, if not the most, strenuous undergraduate degrees. Further, engineering graduates have the option (and for some fields it's a requirement) to post-graduation obtain a 'Professional Engineer' license.

Professional schools usually give you a license when you're done and you're pretty much guaranteed work immediately. I think that's what Deez was getting at.

Gets fuzzy with these types of definitions, though. For example, you're not getting a job as a professor at a research university without a Ph.D., yet this would never be considered a "professional degree."

I understand what you're saying above, however. Thanks.

It's big but they are still replaceable.

OU and OSU move to the North.

2 other schools are grabbed up.

That wipes two states off the map of the Big 12.

The problem is his story holds about as much water as a fishing net. IF it was just Nebraska and MU going to the Big10 then yes it might make sense. But everyone knows that isn't going to happen. if MU is going to the big 10 then so are 3 other teams. They can't all be lagging on announcements......

There has been no official word that any announcement is being delayed, nor was there ever any word that an announcement was going to be made. All that has been said is that the Regents are meeting today regarding this and there will be a press conference following it. I don't know where this "delay" nonsense is coming from.

Common perception was that the 1p meeting would be to announce the move. He said it wouldn't and that nothing was going to happen until after the MU BOC meeting.

It was pretty starkly opposed to what everyone else was saying at the time but appears to be fairly accurate.

That's my recollection as well.

And now for the biggest pile of steaming rumor yet.

A coworker that moved to Chicago a couple of weeks ago was wearing an MU sweater today while waiting for a taxi and evidently struck up a conversation with a guy who's nephew works for the B10 (Yes, BS flags should be going up right now).

This guy told him not to worry, that the B10 never issues invitations but rather invitations to apply and that those went to MU awhile ago. That MU applied and got the approval at the same time as NEB. At that time the B12 offices were advised per B10 protocal, which is what got the B12 all irritated and issuing 'ultimatums'.

Neb is going to announce today with MU to follow shortly thereafter so as not to steal NEBs thunder.

NOTE: This is probably the same asshole posting on tigerboard that thought it would be fun to **** with the guy in the Tiger sweatshirt, but I figured I would let you know. I have every reason to trust the guy that told me he had this conversation, but neither one of us know a damn thing about the guy that told him. So ultimately it's still more credible than whatever bullshit Chip Brown is parroting for Deloss Dodds, but it's still probably garbage.

I hate this so much.
