I'm not sure that Costa Rica is 3rd world, anymore. There has been a ton of American money invested down there in the last 10 or 20 years. Their education is the finest in Central America and the ecotourism is the model other countries are emulating. In fact, I'm pretty sure that there are small communities specifically catering to Americans, including McDonald's, Starbuck's, etc.

By the way, if anyone is seriously considering a Central American retirement in the next 10 years Nicaragua is supposedly the next Costa Rica. You can buy in now for next to nothing (even when compared to Costa Rica) and reasonably expect it to grow into a tourist (read: American) friendly ecopark.

Yeah, start another one. I don't do brick and mortar businesses, too f**king expensive. I generally put together a small group (two or three at the most) young, hungry guys and write a software app. Then we sell it. So far I've done Ok, I pay the bills and have some leftover. Who knows, maybe one day I'll hit one out of the park and retire.

The one we're working on now is one of the most promising I've done. It has some pretty strong potential.
