Why call up Zimmer if we aren't in contention? Why rush him and burn service time? And if we are out of contention in May, clean house. Get someone in here who will do right for the long-term. Maybe someone who can cobble together a staff that can actually develop a ****ing hitter. I would retain Eiland, however.

Billy: "I don't think it matters who's in first place on May 4th," Butler said. "I'll leave it at that."
Butler apparently doesn't think winning matters. |
Moose has 14 hits and 20 Ks. Belly K's 2.5 times for every walk. Don't even want to think about how many times he's hit into an inning killing DP. Maxwell's average is only three points lower than Moose, and he's only played in 12 games. Gordon only has one homer. Hosmer has no homers. Infante seems to be only well rounded player on the team. Aoki can't hit on the road. It's a cluster ****.
|
The two wild card spots makes it less likely Shields gets traded, unless we completely fall apart. You just have to hang around .500 and then make a run.
Even now, we are 1.5 games out of a wild card spot. |

Maxwell should not be given the DH spot. Maxwell should be released or replaced if anything.

Those pining for Maxwell's mediocrity should allow that last sentence to sink in before calling on him to be a full time DH. |

That's not what he said, and what he said isn't exactly wrong. Nowhere did he say that "winning doesn't matter." Sure we would all love to be in first place, but as we have unfortunately found out over the past 3 days, Detroit is not finishing anywhere but first in this division. Our only hope of making the postseason this season is through the wild card. Now back to Billy's comments, I am not trying to defend him or excuse him of his poor performance through the first month, but he has a point. May 4th, 2013, exactly one year ago today the Tampa Bay Rays were 13-16. As you probably know the Tampa Bay Rays finished the season with 92 wins and won the AL Wild Card. Also on May 4th, 2013, the LA Dodgers also held a record of 13-16. The Dodgers finished off the year at 92 wins and were the NL West Champions. Bottom line the team is obviously going to have to start performing one way or another. No offense, no postseason.. simple as that. |
I don't believe Maxwell is capable of becoming a full-time DH, but I also don't believe he is getting consistent-enough AB's to be productive off of the bench.

Edmund Burke-"Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it." That quote from Billy is disgusting. This team, nor the fans, can afford this mentality that these games don't matter. Or, it's too early in the season to worry about our record. I say, no, it is not too early to be worrying about the same habits this team has repeatedly displayed throughout the last few years. A terrible early start to the season means disaster for this team. We have seen it before. This team is lackadaisical through the early stages then tries to turn it on and get's hot far too late. Hey Royals, try something different. Try winning early on. See how well that works. Because this ho-hum approach doesn't work, nor should it.

Jack Harry about to piss himself on an epic Royals meltdown.

I knew the Royals would probably lose tonight, but I'm still pissed about the sweep.

Yost needs to be fired and the whole approach at the plate needs to change. It needs to be done now while the season can still be salvaged.

Well a pitcher like Verlander is going to get those calls more times than not.
It's the Michael Jordan rule. If you're one of the best, the discretion usually rules in your favor. |

The Royals just played one of the best teams in baseball. There's a reason the Tigers have won the Central the last few years. It's disheartening to get swept but it happens.
The Royals now get to play seven games against two teams that have losing records. Plus, Billy will get to sit on the bench for the first three. Can the Royals pitchers bat into more double plays per game than Billy? My feelings are, if the Royals are still playing 500 ball at the end of May, they have a chance to make the playoffs. If they'd have been playing 500 ball at the end of May last year, they'd have won the Central. The Royals were 7 - 7 against the Tigers after the All-Star-Break last year. |

5 - 13 in the division?
**** it. Drop a low grade nuke on the K and forget Kansas City ever had a baseball team. I'm sick of GMDM's koolaid. I'm going to go eat rat poison. |
Royals Apathy Mode: Engaged.

I made it to Sat and Sundays games. It was disappointing, frustrating and awful to watch. My biggest issue isn't that we got swept by the Tigers, it's that we looked so dysfunctional in this series. It's almost like we just mailed it in after Shields got pounded on Friday night. Awful performances all the way around - pitching and hitting.
Very important 7 game West Coast trip. Would love to go 5-2 and get back to above .500, but I envision something much worse, more like 2-5. Starts with a big game tonight. Need a money performance by Ace. |
Instead of a banner we all need to chip in some money for a bus load of skanks to be the teams slumpbusters. I think that might be the only thing to save the season.
|
I would love nothing more than Ventura going out there tonight and dealing. Need him to stop this slide.
|
Because god knows our ****ing shit show of an offense isn't going to do it.

We've been shit against the Padres. Time to change that, or else.

LoCain back in tonight.

I'll set the over/under on his next injury at 2.5 weeks.

It's funny, I was sitting around today trying to figure out whether this team could undergo a quick 2-3 year rebuild.
Hopefully Billy can pick up some steam before the trade deadline and we can ship him off for something (anything). Maybe trade Aoki and Holland, as well. Work on finding some power bats for RF and DH in the offseason. |
The best prospects in baseball all busting out. 3 years ago we were stacked, none have done shit.

I hate agreeing with you, but I was thinking the same thing today. It's crazy to think of so many highly touted prospects doing jack shit for the big league club. |
Good thing we got rid of Seitzer after 2012 for the team not hitting enough home runs. LeadHead Ned sure whiffed on that change in personnel
|
Idk man. We're all frustrated, but Ned is a small fish in a big pond in this situation.

If you look at this last series I can't recall other than maybe 1 swing by Hunter where any of the Detroit batters were swinging like Hosmer does. Butler finally started hitting and what was the noticeable change? He quit swinging so ****ing hard and trying to pull everything. We all know Ned wants to see more homeruns but whatever it is these guys are trying to do it ain't working. Then you get to the sloppy play on defense and it just tells me these players are just being allowed to do whatever the **** they want. There is no leadership. There is no sense of urgency. We keep hearing this "it's only May" shit when last year, "May" is what kept them out of the playoffs. |

I was never a fan of the sleeveless look, but they look even more dated now. I think they brought those in about the same time as the black jerseys.

Gordon a platoon player now? 7-36 vs LH now sub Mendoza line. Slug less than 300. No HR, 3/9 bb/k ratio. He is helpless vs LH

Remember Rex beating off to Alex "new approach" last year vs LH? "I asked him what his approach was in the past and he said 'I didn't have one'. But now he does, that comes with age and I'm an annoying piece of dung homer paid by Glass to peddle this propaganda"
|
Sure would be nice to have a hitting coach that could teach these guys how to hit and inspire them not to suck big camel wangs like they have been. Would also be nice if Ned where managing a team for someone else.
|
Que estas Duncan? That guy predicted 90+ wins and a playoff appearance. Looks like he's run for the hills and is in hiding.

Put Gordon at leadoff bat Aoki 9th

ok im changing my prediction.
92 wins |

I didn't see any of the weekend games and only caught the tail end of the game last night. Tuned in just about in time to see Gyorko take Holland deep. I did think this team was capable of winning 91-92 games, because I expected at least a league average offense with the additions of Aoki and Infante. Those two have been about what I expected. I did not expect Butler and Gordon to be WORSE than they were last year, even in this small a sample size. Sal Perez also has not produced as well, again in a small sample size. Pair a league average offense with this starting pitching and defense, and you're talking about a team that's on track with what I expected. There's time left, but they must turn it around quickly. The stuff about this management group that leaked over the weekend, I have no comment about that other than to say Craig Brown perfectly encapsulated my thoughts on the matter. Dayton Moore and co. seem to have not adjusted to the internet age and the fact that hardcore fans have access to so much more data and analysis than in the "good old days." But that shouldn't surprise me. Moore and his people have not adjusted to the modern game, post-strike, in any arena. No way they're going to be on the ball about this. |
