Just hang in there for a few more years and you can all party after the divorces.

I have one friend left. She either hangs out with the snobby bitches she works with, the gay guy she works with, or babysits her niece and nephew on Saturday nights. I have one that's engaged (getting married next month). I manage to steal her for lunches whenever she gets the chance.

el borracho 02-07-2007 01:22 AM

Hey, how much money would it take to radically alter your life? Like if someone were to give you a pile of cash (no, I am not offering)- how much would there need to be to make a permanent change in your life?

Depends on the change. I'd love to move somewhere, but I'd have to find a job making enough to make it on my own. I don't have any special skills or degrees, so I'm stuck.

Wow. You guys are really stuck in a rut, then. Not much chance of lucking into the funds you need to make permanent change.

Out of curiosity, what would you do with the 3 million?

Well it would probably be around 10 million. Enough to buy a better house, and a nice car and still do anything I wanted. I would still work however much money I had because I wouldn't be able to stay home everyday.

Hell, if someone handed me $10k it would make a change, though nothing permanent.

$3M is what I figure I need to jump ship out of this country and into some 2nd world country. I want to retire somewhere that the amount of money I have is enough that I can buy real freedom. The kind of freedom where I can walk down the street and kill some random bum in the middle of the day with witnesses and get away with it.

Move somewhere in the country or move out of the country? Moving in the country is easy. I know people who change states frequently living on server jobs.

In the country. I don't know where. Maybe just up around KC. I'd be able to make it to more get-togethers without having to drive home 3 hours.

A car is not a permanent change. A nicer house but in the same city and with the same job is not really much of a change, either. With 10 million, you would be able to live comfortably on interest in a savings account, if nothing else. But, really, with 10 million you would have nearly unlimited investment possibilities.

yeah, 10k is chump change these days. You pay off some bills and take a vacation and go back to your life. 10k would not make a permanent change in my life.

By the way, which countries would you consider moving to?

Simplex3 02-07-2007 01:38 AM

Now, if my wife and kids were gone tomorrow you wouldn't have to hand me a nickel to change my life. I'd hand the deeds and titles to my crap over to my sister and her husband and be on a plane to Korea to join a monastery within two weeks.

I wouldn't want to move, or quit working. I would definatly invest the money, but still work part time out of boredom.

To move to KC? You don't need a pile of cash to move to KC. All you would need is to walk into work one day and say, "I quit". The next day you pack your belongings and by nightfall you're in KC. Sheesh. I was asking about permanent, life-altering change.

Move with what money? My usual cushion in my checking account is $3-400. Not exactly enough to move on. There's finding a place to live, and paying for it. I'd have to find a job.

That's really where I'd lean if I left today. Find some land up in the mountains, somewhere that it's 70 degrees almost all the time. Build a house with no heat and no AC, no need for electricity most of the time. My wife would hate it for a while but she'd get into the routine.

If you have credit you can move to KC. How hard would it be to replace a job which affords you the lavish life of $3-400 dollars in a checking account?

You didn't say how life altering. Hell, I move to KC, meet some people, have a life, meet Mr Right, get married....major life alter.

Pshaw. Move to KC on credit, enroll in school, get a part time job and take out student loans. This will carry you for at least four years, maybe five depending on what you study. The California part, of course, requires a lot more money but with your new college education you could do it in 4 years. Of course you would still probably have only $3-400 in your account if you move to Ca.

My credit isn't exactly great. I try not to go into debt. Hell, anyone could do practically anything if they wanted to go into debt far enough.

el borracho 02-07-2007 01:58 AM

Well, lots of people put themselves through college with loans. It is just more difficult- less time for beer pong and chasing members of the opposite sex.

edit: without student loans.
