Stay all night!!! |
Quote:
Anyway, I didn't have to stay all night as 2014 Weller was on the 2nd time I passed through the line. I had it side by side with 2015 Rare as Goose lets you double fist, and it was my favorite beer of the night. I had heard there was a Weller aged BCS but I assumed it was just a myth, a bedtime story told by Ditka looking dads to their sons and daughters who were born with facial hair. However, it does exist and I drank it. Kind of hard to see, but lower left on the screen. Also notice how I'm up at 5:30am CT on a Saturday to handle my bidness. https://i.imgur.com/mzts8S5.jpg?1 |

I have the Noon-4:00 session of this beer fest today.

'Tis the barrel aged season. Stopped in for an Epic Flight at Goose InBev over lunch this afternoon. Ranked in order of my preference.
BCS Templeton Rye (2013) - Holy shit drinking amazing Double Barrel BCS (2017) Double Barrel Brandy BCS (2 years in bourbon barrels, 2 years in brandy barrels) BCS Regal Rye (2015) https://i.imgur.com/S3inJhT.jpg?1 |

Im pretty sure they are using some brown sugar to help boost ABV though. Either way its shitload of grain. |

A few the other night, thanks to a beer nerd friend...
Funky Buddha (Florida), Morning Wood... bourbon barrels, coffee, maple syrup. Phenomenal. Cigar City (also Florida :hmmm: ), Moat Water... bourbon barrel, vanilla, coffee. Also amazing. McFate (Phoenix PBJ), King Sized Candy Bar Milk Stout... holy shit, it really smells like a Snickers bar, and tastes like one. |

Here's the thread I was trying to remember earlier from a guy homebrewing a Dark Lord clone. It has pics of gravity readings. I've had a few Dark Lords variants and they're definitely nuts, but some of the Angry Chair/Wakefield stuff I've tried gives Dark Lord diabeetus.

Since I’m new to KC, where are the best places to go for BCS tomorrow? Gomer’s and Lukas? Or are there smaller places I should check out? Where will be the best place to find the coffee and are there any places that have a greater than 1 limit?

Wheatwine has replaced the straight barleywine. I haven't had it yet, but I've heard it shouldn't be slept on. It took 2nd at the Festival of Wood and Barrel-Aged Beer last weekend in the barleywine/wheatwine category.
BCS allotments are allocated based on annual Goose sales and some other shady shit. So places moving the most Goose products might be your best bet for variants. I'm not familiar with KC distro, but word is they've cut back on regular to make more variants available, FWIW. |

We have a local place that gets a couple barrels of BCS every year and they are allowed to sell it starting on Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I had a couple 12oz pours Wednesday.
As always its really good stuff. What was really cool is a few patrons brought in some bottles of 2016 and 2017 so we did a small vertical. Amazing how much the 2016 has smoothed out. |
As a BCS fanboi, the non-infected 2015 is steller, followed by 2014. I honestly don’t get much variance in the pasteurized years. I drink that shit fresh now.

When did they start pasteurizing? 2016? |

I'm having an 18' KBS right now. KBS is a good beer but it just doesn't hold a candle to BCS. |

Avid BCS fan here.
KBS is just what I think when I see KBS.. K BS not what it's acclaimed to be. |
So I should expect almost no variables tomorrow morning in a mid size town like Killeen, Texas. I'd like to grab a few of them. I'd assume my best shot outside of the regular is the Wheatwine. I'm fine with that, although I'm bummed about the Barleywine not being made this year.

I didn't know... bummer If you come to IN my local brewery has a Bourbon Barrell aged, 16.9 ABV, Barleywine. $34 for a growler full or $6 snifter. We finished one earlier today. I was told by my only local purveyor that will even try to get good stuff that he had some interesting beers for me for me. It will be like an early Christmas if he treats me right. |

Also, if you wonder why we can't have nice things in craft beer, here's a pic of the BCS line in Chicago about an hour ago, the store doesn't open til 7am tomorrow. FTR, this place has banned tents and open fires this year. https://i.imgur.com/B1DOi62.jpg?1 |

And that line is insane. 12 hours in line for beer? I love beer, and have definitely stood in my share of stupid lines, but c'mon...12 hours? Count me out. |
Quote:
In Chicago's defense, most of those losers in line right now come from Wisconsin/Michigan/Missouri. |

I hate Goose Island for doing the Black Friday thing, but it's obviously good enough for a quick stop by the beer store... should be plenty available here and they're going to have all the variants.
Met a guy here who is pretty hardcore, will stand in line or drive several hours for rare beer... he partly buys for the scarcity factor. I'm pretty much over that though (and BCS isn't even that hard to find). Missouri/Kansas family brought me some Crown Valley Pumpkin Smash, Dragon's Milk, and the Dragon's Milk Reserve Banana Coconut. PBJ |

My store back home in Louisiana got the regular, vanilla, and Wheatwine. They set aside a bottle of each for me. 1pp. I'm gonna see if the wife can buy a second of the two variants just so I can try one and stash one. |

A 4 pack of orange, a couple vanilla, a couple coffee barleywine, rye, and some original... no lines or fuss about limits.
|
Picked up a couple bottles at the local store. May stop by tomorrow and grab a couple more.

I got to enjoy a sampler of all the offerings, drank a couple of the reserve and brought home 4 bottles... killer afternoon

I got a growler filled with STONE Brewing/FEAR.MOVIE.LIONS unfiltered DOUBLE IPA and was surprised how much I liked it.
|
Midnight Orange is the biggest surprise for me. Not only does it sound like a tween goth kid came up with the name, I've never been a fan of orange and chocolate together, but they nailed the chocolate in this. Vanilla on the other hand, biggest disappointment. It has an overpowering artificial taste, even though I know they used a ton of real vanilla. This one is more for them pastrybois. I'll likely store my Vanilla until I hear word its mellowed a bit. That said, the wife and I did a cuvée of Orange and Vanilla and it had a nice creamsicle thing going that was pretty fun to drink.
My personal favs based on couple oz pours yesterday: Reserve Prop Wheatwine Midnight Orange Regular Coffee Barleywine Vanilla Bramble Rye |
I felt the same about the rye, the coffee barleywine was actually very good as it warmed as was the orange. Haven't had the wheat either.....
I didn't get to try the Prop, but when clearing out some electronics gear from my trunk this morning, I found that my friend slipped me a boxed reserve when I wasn't looking...I better check my tool box... |
Sitting in a mother****ing WHOLE FOODS of all places on vacation in Washington DC enjoying a 4 oz pour of the Orange. They were out of Vanilla. Can get a 64 oz growler of the standard for $30.

Bought the growler and took it back to the hotel. Enjoying some while I watch an illegal stream of the Jets whipping the Blues.

Funny you mention a full bottle of BCS and VSOJ. I really hope packaging BA beers in 12 oz cans becomes a trend. |
Why is no one saying what they paid fot their bottles??
The same reason I don't want to go first? Twobags bragging that he got it cheaper? I paid $14.99 a bottle with a free Reserve that I do not know the price of. What is the price on VSOJ, I have not found it here but looking later today. |

Prices vary all over the place, but this was the standard price in Chicago.
$11.99 Bourbon County Brand Stout $15.99 Bourbon County Brand Coffee Barleywine $15.99 Bourbon County Brand Wheatwine $24.99 Propietor's Boubon County Brand Stout $24.99 Bourbon County Brand Midnight Orange Stout $24.99 Bourbon County Brand Bramble Rye Stout $24.99 Bourbon County Brand Vanilla Stout $24.99 Bourbon County Reserve Brand Stout |

Mildly disappointed with the orange... too subtle for me, but still a high quality stout that was pretty damn smooth. I'll probably open the other 3 every few months.

I was drinking out of the rocks glass I had a Whistlepig Rye from last night. Maybe I'll go back to that. |

It was on sale at Kroger
Went to 4 stores loaded the basement fridge

Toppling Goliath has arrived in our area at long last. Damn fine beer.
I've had Psuedo Sue and Pompeii so far. I haven't splurged for the more expensive ones as of yet. |
Drinking a CA style IPA "brut" that is one of the finest beers (4anIPA) I ever drank.

My advice is to always check their dates. TG rolled out a lot of old beer when they first came to Illinois. They're much better about it now, but got blasted pretty good for sending months old hops. I don't really mess with TG hops past 6 weeks old, but YMMV. While they can still suffer from batch inconsistencies, especially Pseudo Sue, when TG is on they're some of my favorite IPAs. |
Anyone had Materfamilias yet?
Just picked up a couple of 4 packs. |

If I recall didn't some people think that last years had a nasty after taste?:D:D:D:D Let us know how they compare? |

I’ve been spoiled by too many killer Prairie and American Solera Stouts. But they cost double or more the price. |

I have a few in my beer fridge right now, it's still quite tasty. Not the best barrel-aged stout I've ever had but still pretty good, especially for Mother's. Milf (I'm still going to call it that, to hell with their dumb name change) and Imperial Grind are the only two beers from them I like. |
