So Boulevard and Tech N9ne collabo'd on a Wheat beer based on his Caribou Lou drink that he raps about. The beer is a Wheat beer with Pineapple and Coconut. I'm not a huge fan of wheat beers, but I am a huge Tech N9ne fan. I'd like to get my hands on a couple of four packs of this. Looking to any of you KC locals for assistance. I can pay cash or trade beer. Let me know if anyone can help out. Thanks! |

On that note, this is the third time I've noticed rappers doing collabos with breweries. A couple of years ago, I noticed Nappy Roots, another favorite group of mine, started making references to craft beer in their songs. Then earlier this year, they announced a collabo with a brewery in Kentucky. Also, I recall Run the Jewels doing something with a brewery in Chicago (maybe Pipeworks?). I never would have thought the worlds of hip hop and craft beer would cross paths. Pretty cool. As you can see, I'm slowly coming back from my beer break. I'm headed to Great Raft tomorrow with a buddy. I'm hoping to snag you and myself a bottle or two of the latest Oceans Between Us release. They've also got some Grace and Grit cans available, but I'm not sure what the canned date is on those. I'll see when I get there. |

Run The Jewels has done collabs with Pipeworks, Interboro in Brooklyn, J Wakefield in Miami, Mumford in LA, Creature Comforts and one in Europe. I have an extra Pipeworks Panther Like A Panther I can kick you. It's a porter thats blended with other barrel aged beers. It was a 3-way collab with Pipeworks, Interboro, and J Wakefield. Their Stay Gold hazy from Interboro is fire. |

Fellow KC enthusiasts, if any of you are planning on rolling through BKS on Saturday, I'd be interested in trading for a Fleur de Lupulin bottle. I'm sitting on some different Pipeworks BA stouts and some various hazy hops I can trade. Plus Chicago craft beer week kicks off tonight with a bunch of awesome beer releases happening over the next 10 days from Mikerphone, Pipeworks, Half Acre, Forbidden Root, Corridor, Hop Butcher and many more (not More Brewing, I'm not brave enough for that impending shitlord show) that I can pick up.
Let me know if we can work something out. |

I've been back in to beer for a week or two now, and it's been an eye opening experience. I'm definitely having to be careful. |

A buddy and I hit Great Raft the other day for my big return to beer, and they had some great stuff on tap. Grabbed you a bottle of the new Ocean's Between Us batch. This one wasn't as good as the cascade and blood orange batch, but it's still solid. They also had a IPL on tap and in cans that I passed on trying while I was there because I could have swore I tried it before. A buddy of mine asked me to grab him some four packs of it while I was there, and I did, but didn't bother grabbing any because I remembered it being mediocre. Well, he gave me a can when I dropped it off to him, and demand I take it home and try it. It turned out to be very good. I must have had it confused in my head with a different beer of theirs. I immediately regretted not grabbing you a can. Hopefully they releases it again at some point this year. Anyways, I'm putting a small box together to send your way. Hopefully it can go out Tuesday or Wednesday. It ain't much, but there's a fresh beer I wanted to get headed your way fairly quickly. |
Had a Busch Light last night.
**** you it was cold n tasty. |

This is some good shit! Odell Brewery in Colorado and it's potent!
Myrcenary IPA. |
Anyone going to the Real Wild & Woody Indoor Beer Festival in Phoenix next weekend?
http://www.realwildandwoody.com/ |
Can anybody in KC grab me the Boulevard Bou Lou if there's any left? Marcellus tried to grab me some where he is, but couldn't get his hands on any. I've got beer to trade, or can send straight cash, homey. Also, if anyone is going to the 31 Heroes release at Torn Label, I'd definitely be interested in a trade for that.

Its good stuff but I don't think its a NE style IPA. |
Anyone tried one of these Brut IPAs that are trending? Bone dry, 0° Plato IPA with late hop additions, and an effervescent/fizzy carbonation. I've sampled a couple local versions that I was kind of mixed on. I'd be interested in trying others though as they seem to be popping up. Big hop aroma and a shocking dryness.
I've been reading up on them as I'd like to brew one with some Nelson hops I'm sitting on. Seems like they would go well together. |

Did a 6 pack mixer at Total Wine this past weekend. Found this great beer and absolutely loved it. 7.2% ABV with a super smooth finish and lemon notes. Slightly tart. Scored a 90 on the beer advocate (WTF does this mean?) You Colorado boys try this? https://www.totalwine.com/beer/ale/b...ge/p/149084121 https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/25191/100390/ |

Crooked Stave has been in Missouri for probably 3 years now. I'm not sure how much the Shelton guys (distributor) get to Springfield, but it's been plentiful in COMO, StL and KC for a bit.

Hot take. I don't give a shit about releases/whales anymore. There are more than a dozen breweries within an hour of me that produce high quality beer that I can get in various formats (growlers, crowlers, bottles/cans).
I rarely go to the liquor store anymore. |

What whales get released around here anyway other than a few in St. Louis?
There are very few beers going through regular release at retail that I would consider whales; maybe some of the lambics. |

The breweries around here seem to be on a blood orange ale kick, which is disappointing. It doesn't go good with beer at least none of the ones I have tried work.
Tart cherry works wonders in beer though. |

That being said, I know you're in the Houston area, if the Southern Star Blood Belt is the can you've tried, I wouldn't judge off of that one. I swear the blood orange in there is fake. It has a Hawaiian punch taste to it. |

While I'm talking KC area trades, I'm looking for the 31 Heroes release from Torn Label in a couple of weeks, along with one of the 31 Heroes glasses, or just a Torn Label glass in general.
I'm down to trade Ghost or some other Louisiana beer for it. I've got a couple cans of fresh Jucifer left. |
I'm still about 50/50 on liquor store/brewery purchases. Most brewers here do a really good job of making their stuff available at the brewery and distributing to stores around the city to get it into as many hands as possible, even their limited releases.
I've been stocking 4pks of fresh TG Psuedo Sue at $7.99 all summer to offset the $15-18 4pks of special or rotating releases. With our +11% sales tax, 4pks can reach $20 pretty quickly. I love NEIPAs, but it's pretty rare that I'm able to take down a 4pk of the same one by myself, so I like to drink a couple and share or trade the others for something outside my market or were in-market that I may have missed. |
Phoenix beerfest highlights...
AleSmith Barrel Aged Speedway Stout... don't remember the regular stuff being all that great, but this was fantastic. Ironfire Last Rites Stout Clown Shoes North of Sonora Porter Four Peaks Sirius Black Stout McFate Shot in the Arm Stout Prescott Brewery Achoco Loco... surprisingly, a top ~3 favorite. 8 bit Aleworks had cereal themed beer... Cocoa Pebbles, Fruity Pebbles, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Reese's.... but, they were the most disappointing of the bunch. |

Had this last week. Pretty good. |

They had 'small bites' from several places, it was good food. They had games like tug of war and a giant cornhole game with throw pillows. None of the lines were long or slow (didn't see lines forming around the bathrooms either). They give you 20 tickets for 4oz pours (most of them were actually 4 oz, too)... I'm sure they do that so they can jack up the price ($65, IIRC), knowing you're not going to drink that much (at least not the beer I drink). It was a great time, I'd definitely do it again.... but, maybe show up an hour early or late though. |
For you Bourbon County folks, the actual 2018 lineup has been released. Of note to me is the Coffee Barleywine. I can already hear the NillaBroz swarming with the return of Vanilla.

A few of them do sounds pretty damn good though, at least the regular stuff has been easy to find the past couple years here, still have some from two years ago and last year sitting around. |

On a related note, and regarding their craft beer hating ownership, Josh Noel's (Chicago Tribune writer) new-ish book, "Barrel-Aged Stout and Selling Out" is a decent and easy read. He had access to John Hall (Goose founder) and basically wrote the Goose Island story which includes the history of Bourbon County, but also with a parallel story of Anheuser-Busch's attempts to kill off craft beer. It's a really interesting look back at the craft beer landscape as a whole in the 90's, which I was oblivious to. It's recommended even if you're not interested in the craft/big beer storyline, but just like reading about beer and key moments in beer history. |
tl didn't read. Please tell me that bud 1776 shit didn't make the list.

Haha, yeah. I told my wife I'm showing up when it starts at 5pm today and staying until they tap the '14 Weller. So with my luck that will be the last keg tapped on Saturday night.
