Tough game. Hard to win when your 3 bigs (Ish, BayBay and Tomlin) play 72 mins and account for ZERO rebounds. That’s an amazingly awful stat
|
Damn, I didn't realize none of them had ANY. I recorded it to watch this morning on the treadmill, so just now getting to the thread, but rebounding and FT's were a mess last night
|
Correctable mistakes, Big 12 is tough this year, not going to be a cakewalk for any of these teams in the top 6. Cats brought it though, just rebounding and mistakes.

Why do you guys go by EMAW when you could change it to EPAW to be more inclusive, while also invoking a paw like wildcats have?

Example(s) 1971/1972- great team. Big 8 title winner. Beat Texas to make the EE. Lose 72-65 to Louisville in Ames. 1972/73 - Big 8 champs. Win S16 vs SW Louisiana. They had Bo Lamar. Averaged 29ppg. Guy was ****ing great. Cats eke out a 66-63 win. Then get Memphis (State). Gene Bartow was their coach. He would replace Wooden @ UCLA later in the decade. Larry Finch and (ABA/NBA) star Larry Kenon. Memphis played in the title game vs Walton and UCLA.They were unstoppable. 92-72. 25-4. Season over. First time I was heartbroken. 1975 - Big 8 champs. Defeat Penn in the 32. Beat Boston College in the S16 to face off against Syracuse in the EE. Game tied and one of the greatest Big 8 players ever, Chuckie Williams comes down the court and drains a 28/29 footer to give the Cats the lead with 5 seconds to play. I mean it was one of those “NO, NO, NO DON’T SHOOT THAT …. **** YES I KNEW HE’D HIT THAT SHOT !!!! Syracuse inbounds, drives to the lane and hits a 12 footer that bounced 176 times on the rim then fell in to tie it. At. The. ****ing. Buzzer. Lose in OT. **** you, upstate NY. 1977- CATS vs Marquette. In OKC. Coached by Al McGuire. They had Butch Lee and Bo Ellis. They wore uniforms designed by Bo Ellis that were made to not be tucked in. Actually pretty cool stuff. Cats down three with 00:17 to play. Mike Evans puts up a jumper, misses, but Darrell Winston goes high above everybody and grabs it, lays it in and is fouled! ****yea!!!! But wait - Rule 26(a) was instituted and the basket nullified but two FT’s awarded. Quote:
Also, the rule was rescinded 12 days after the 77 title game. **** YOU NCAA. 1981- CATS beat USF then beat #1 seed Oregon State on the famous SI Cover photo of Rolando Blackmon high, high, HIGH in the air draining a baseline jumper with 2 seconds to play. (Jay Randolph on the call for NBC). Knock off Illinois in the S16 and get wasted by UNC in the EE. (Al Wood, Sam Perkins, James Worthy) My dislike of UNC grew a lot that decade. They played the four corners until the shot clock was instituted and it finally brought the game out into the open floor. 88 - was in The Silverdome to witness it so STFU. That ended the best two decade run in the history of KSU MBB. 2010 - beat N Texas, BYU. S16 the incredible 2OT game vs Xavier in SLS. Then Butler. They were just was so damn tough. Had the lead with 1:00 to play. But couldn’t hold it. 2018 - beat Kentucky in the S16 (I mean .. No biggie we whoop dat ass on the regular—>> joking Rams). And on to Loyola Chicago. And I swear this to you. Had my couch all ready. Texted friends. Life appears great. Was making a sandwich at tip-off. By the time I sat down it was 20-4 Loyola. Game was ****ing over in the first 6 minutes. Just over. **** YOU BRUCE WEBER. So, unfortunately, I’m forced to take my S16’s with a truckload of salt. But it would be kinda nice… |

You’re too kind. PB mentioned upthread a ways back that the 88 season ending loss (or win for you guys) in the Silverdome was a defining moment for both teams. It’s true. From Brown (greatest tactical guy I thought I’d ever see) to Roy (great teams, great recruiter, snakebit) to Self (great recruiter, best tactician and best player development coach) is just remarkable.
There were other factors but going from Altman to Asbury to Wooly… I mean what the ****? Went 20 years before we won an NCAA tournament game. 08 vs USC. How is that even possible? But it’s true. |

Hopefully Tang wakes up your AD to never settle for less on the bball court again. This is the most electric I have ever seen the Cats (08 and 10 come close, but Tang commands a respect that I’m not sure I saw in those years). |

It’s going to a tough game to win. Really tough. |
It's early, but I'm getting the feeling like this is our basketball version of Bill Snyder.
Couple this season's results - with a roster made up of castaways - with the recruits we having coming in (RJ, Macaleab, Dai Dai) and the inevitable TP guys we'll get... and the future is bright. Now we just need to back up the Brinks truck. |
Nice work kittens!
Carry that Kansas pride as far as you can. It's up to you & TX to carry that B12 reign at the top. FTR, Tuck Fexas! 😉 |
|
I never thought that ANY fan base could be worse than Western KS EMAW shirt tucking weirdos that constantly cry about any perceived slight.
Never, EVER say never. |

I can't say Tang is my favorite KSU coach, but that's only because Frank Martin is the f'n man. |
I really DGAF who wins a tourney after we are out. Or who wins games. Just want to see pimps and KSU has two of them. That was some cold blooded shit at the end. Actually I am lying, I want the blue bloods to lose so Kentucky getting punked was cool. I’m prob rooting for Zags because they deserve one, Few is a good dude who got that DUI after Baylor ruined his perfect season
|
I’m exhausted. That was so up and down. But they held on and I’m trying to figure out what I’ll have to take to get any sleep tonight.

What a game. Man, that was insanely stressful. So many ties and lead changes. Huge game from Nowell, Johnson, and Massoud. Big guys were running on high foul counts all game. Very smart and efficient play by the Cats tonight. Really impressive win. I didn't know what to expect with this game. It did not disappoint.
Go Cats! |
Quote:

Nowell might have the best vision of any point guard I've ever seen at K-State. He has close to Mahomes level vision of the court out there. Really impressive. Some of those assists tonight were just ridiculous. And he even left the game at one point after a nasty ankle roll.
|
Nowell can still dish on one leg....LFG :old:
|
CATS v FAU.
These lads won’t take anyhing for granted. Saturday night |
Holy shit man. Cats

One hell of a game played today Kittens! Enjoyed watching that one, now go ahead and finish this run that you're on!
Go ahead and win this, B12 strong!     |

Way to go fellas! Go get it!

Get it Cats!

That game was as up and down as it gets. KSU made some poor decisions to close out regulation, but that same attitude is what propelled them in OT.
JFC, this team is a million heart attacks waiting to happen, and it's awesome. LMAO |
I'm rooting for you homos! Nowell is just insane. He had more assists than the entire Michigan State team.

I was only able to catch part of that game but I did see the end. And heard my wife going crazy upstairs. ROFL I have tried to tell her that Tang is a good coach. I think maybe she has been like Chiefs fans used to be. But she's starting to believe.
And that Nowell is fun to watch. I always love watching a great point guard. NCAA assists record, nice! :thumb: I don't know how far you your team will go but good luck, KSU fans! Except you, kstater. You can go to Hell! |
Ksu favored -2
They are about identical teams in Pomeroy Should be good |

I think officiating is going to have a lot to do with it. |
I wonder if our athletic bigs will be the difference. Seems like Tenn's bigs were lumbering statues compared to the FAU's speedy guards.
We also defend the 3 as well as anyone in the country, so we've got that going for us. Just need MN's ankle to heal up as best it can and play our game. |
Quote:
Those FAU guys were ****ing slippery, and they could very well give you trouble, especially if your guys get lazy and foul. Physically, you should get some looks. If your shots are falling and you play sound ball, it would take a hell of an effort to beat you from their talent. That being said, cold streaks happen - especially if you try some of the stuff that worked against MSU and it doesn't work and you press. And there were some really bad possessions against MSU. FAU also had some bad possessions and it took an incredible cold streak from Tennessee to get back in the thing. The optimistic part is you guys seem to learn on the move. Your defense was horribly tentative early, and then you settled in and got after them. And Tang did some yeoman work designing plays. It's really weird watching you guys play through the league where you know everybody, and then play a team you've never seen before. Weird shit can happen. But if you guys come in and take care of business, it will be a breezy win. |
I said during the game last night that Nowell was having a Mahomes bad ankle game. And he legit did. But the more I thought on it the more I saw out of him and the team as a whole:
Someone else last night mentioned Nowell’s vision, how sees the entire court (and takes advantage of it). He makes absurd passes and shots, all of this is Mahomesesque. Tang draws up in bound plays like Reid draws up offensive plays. And one of those plays from last week is even named “Mahomes”. The team as a whole just always seems to have this confidence, and even swagger, never doubting their ability to battle through the rough times and play from behind. This K-State team is by design emulating/morphing into the Kansas City Chiefs by design. Change my mind. |

Anyway, regardless if the back and forth was designed or not, it had the same effect, and Nowell and Johnson cashed in on it with an exclamatory alley-oop for a reverse dunk. I was hard. I still am. |

Also, congrats to K-State fans! Been so fun to watch this team! |

I actually don't know the type. Almost all the KSU grads/fans I'm around are pretty reasonable. At least around me. Somehow my wife seems to know a mountain of KSU asshats and they're all from South of Manhattan. I know they're out here though, I've just successfully insulated myself from them. I am unsuccessful at eliminating all douches, but I'm lucky on the KSU douche front. |
Man, I am excited. Taking the train up to NYC tomorrow to catch the game with my teenage sons. Going to be fun.
