I meant to look at Senden's odds pre-tournament. Anybody happen to know what they were?
|
The course is a patsy right now. Webb Simpson shot 64.
|
Muffner is -7 through 16 and -9 for the tournament. Needs to par in to set the course record and tie the major record. One under gives him 62 and the record all to himself.
|
Muffner's got about 12' up the hill for 62. And he leaves it two feet short. Wow.

Duff might rise to the top but rose is right there also. Scott with that illegal anchor putter is in the mix too Close race |

Picked up an Odyssey Protype Black #9 - gaming it for the first time this morning. Kinda hoping it knocks my Cameron Monterrey out of the bag.
Also decided to kick the driver out of the bag for good. Going with the 13.5 3-wood. But now in have an extra spot in the bag - at least for today, I might be the first golfer ever to carry two putters. |

Furyk with a 1 shot lead heading into the final day. Dufner 1 back. Guys like Stenson and Scott lurking. Rory and Westwood are tied for 7th but 6 shots back.

Dufner should pull it out if he can stay out of the water |
Duff man was chicken arming some of his tee shots yesterday, I watch all these tourneys and he's never really done that. His putts were short too, just like they were last week at Bridgestone when he was trying to work into contention. (He missed 5 putts within 6 feet or so). His cool demeanor is hiding the fact that yes, he's nervous just like others. Faldo even noticed it yesterday.
|
Duffner 1 putting errythang
Edit Never mind Almost 3putted from 8 feet |
Furyk playing too conservative. Dufner is playing to win.

He also sets a terrible example, taking two minutes to hit every shot and backing off of each putt multiple times, and that shit bleeds down into public golf. He's a much worse example than Tiger cussing. |
Good example: Fifteen is a cut pin. Furyk has two holes where he could potentially make a birdie, otherwise he's relying on Dufner to make a bogey going in.
Rather than trying to hit a cut into that pin Furyk never even takes the water on, ending up 50 feet short of the hole. He's the Alex Smith of golfers. |
Muffner is the ****ing truth.

Better than most.

A few years ago the Players was on, and my wife was sleeping. They replayed Gary Koch's call and to the exact same cadence I yelled out, "Cinnamon Toast.....CINNAMON TOAST." I did it like three straight times. She gets up and yells "Shut the **** up about cinnamon toast, I'm trying to sleep!!" |
Popeye birdies, but so does the Duffner
|
Game over for chicken wing
|
Dufner's got this unless he goes Mickelson on us
|
Furyk fails with a flop shot. Looks like game over... but Dufner chokes a putt for a bogey. Still a game if Dufner chokes hard on 18.

Yes the Duff-man was a great call. I didn't think he'd do well in successive weeks (players rarely do) but he and Stenson defnintely disproved that trend. Tiger of course couldn't shake it. My pick Dustin went T-8 with Rory but was never a factor, getting off to a slow start on Thursday. That course was set up beautifully for him. I'm not sure if he (or Hunter) will get it done at a major but I do believe eventually both will break thru.
|
My pick before the tourney started was Henrik Stenson. He's got a great game, but his putting really failed him at times this weekend.
|
A side note. Topeka native Gary Woodland made the record books on Sunday.
From the Lawrence Journal-World: On the PGA tour website, the first sentence of the description for No. 13, Oak Hill’s signature hole, reads: “This hole has never been reached in two shots, but that could change during the tournament, as someone with two fantastic shots might run one up on the green.” That someone turned out to be Woodland, whose tee shot crossed a creek that runs across the fairway 300 yards from the tee box. On the first three days of the tournament, Woodland did what players normally do. He teed off with an iron to lay up short of the creek. “I missed the drive a little bit, kind of hit it off the heel, but it just got over, just into the first cut (of rough),” Woodland said. “I was going to go for it no matter what today. I hit a hard 3-wood (second shot), hit a really good shot. I didn’t know I got there until I got up on the green and saw it in the middle of the green.” |

He has to pull a 'Dufnering' next to the trophy, doesn't he? |
Poulter: Fan kicked out for 'Baba Booey' shout
Ian Poulter in the 2013 Volvo World Match Play Championship third round JERSEY CITY, N.J. – After some recent harsh criticism of fans who scream at golf tournaments – especially those who scream the Howard Stern-inspired “Baba Booey” – it was believed that Ian Poulter would be a target for more such treatment from outside the gallery ropes on Thursday afternoon. It didn’t happen, though, he reported. Poulter tweeted after the round: The good news of today was only 1 donut shouted out Baba Booey and he was swiftly removed from the premises. http://www.golfchannel.com/news/golf...dayNL_20130823 should have went mashed potatoes or light the candle I guess |
Any of you guys got the v2 system yet?
I'm working on some things after seeing my swing on there. I was really stiff in the knees and bent over at the waist, which was making it hard for me to get back down in plane after taking it outside on the way back. I've found that more knee flex has allowed my spine to be a little more upright and I can keep it the same, angle wise, all the way thru. It's helped me get really back on plane on the way back, which makes it easier (less movement) on the way down. Also helps me keep from getting loose at the top |

Comparing tournament wins and major wins. A nice little Chiefs reference that made me post the link. In the 1990s, the Kansas City Chiefs won 101 games, one of only four NFL teams to do so, and made the playoffs seven times. Were the 1990s Chiefs a great team? Nobody thinks so, not even people in Kansas City. They didn’t win a Super Bowl. They didn’t reach a Super Bowl. For most football fans, greatness comes with Super Bowl championships (and semi-greatness can come by finishing runner up in the Super Bowl – the Buffalo Bills won 103 games in the 1990s, lost four Super Bowls, and some do think of them as a great team). |
Quote:
But yeah, in golf lingo, the 90's Chiefs are like Lee Westwood, pretty good and top 10 player, but no major championships to speak of (yet). |

Hadn't hit a ball for two weeks till yesterday a when I walked 10 holes. Wasn't very good and today I was almost not going to go to the course but in the end I made myself go. I played 9 and made 3 birdies and an eagle. I made a bogey so I shot a 4 under 32.:)
|
Jim Furyk just threw up a 59 at the BMW Championship. With a bogey.
6th player ever on the PGA Tour, in the playoffs, and on a course that a lot of guys were struggling on today. |
Scorecard on ESPN now showing an 8 for Tiger on Hole 1. Brings him to -4. What was this about?

All year. Can't hit off the tee. If I happen to iron that during a round, it's being unable to hit a green from 60 yards, 80 yards, 100-150 yards. If I do that then I bungle chips and putts.
Today was culmination of the good and the bad. Was bad off the tee on 1 and took +3. Scrambled for 4 pars on the front, including a 60ft bogey saving putt over an undulating green. Long story short, I hit 7 pars and had a single birdie. BUT, I had three triple bogeys and three double bogeys. Finished with a 90. |

Today's brag is I mowed the back yard (push mower) and cleaned the dog pens. After that took a shower and then played 9. Shot 36 with two 3 putts and I also missed two birdie putts that I should have made. I hit 6 drivers and hit five fairways. On the layup hole I smoked a 5 wood through the fairway. I hit 7 greens but of the missed greens one was a foot off the surface not much more then 15' from the hole. My ball striking has come around and it makes me giddy as a school girl.
|
I recently figured out that the biggest issue behind my struggles this year is an unusual one: I was coming way too far from the inside on everything, from chips to drivers. Feeling like I'm coming OTT while keeping my spine angle has me compressing the hell out of the ball right now.

It's been a couple of weeks since a golf post. I'd like to hear/read more golf stories from you guys. I hadn't played since last Tuesday but I got out and played nine holes today. This Oh' Boy(How would you spell that?) ask me if I wanted to play as I was stretching by the 1st tee. I said "sure, you gonna play the back tees with me?" He shook his head yes and walked back to the back tee. He made his play well before I was done with my stretching routine. I didn't rush.
I have this routine I go through on the first tee that allows me to pretty much smoke my first shot and it works so I stuck to it. I smoked it. Then I hit a full wedge to 2' from the cup. Birdie! I do that a lot. I think 'Red' was impressed. Anyway I shot -1 for the nine with 14 putts. I hit the first 5 fairways then missed the last two.:grr: I only hit 5 greens in regulation and that's not really good for me on that particular nine holes. All in all that's good golf though. It rained during the nine holes and when it subsided there was a beautiful rainbow. It was the first time I'd ever seen the whole rainbow. You could see it from ground zero on one side and then the whole arc to ground zero on the other side. It was perfect. It was a nice early evening. |
For any of you his in KC, if you are in the look for anything golf, head up north to zona to the Edwin watts. Going out of business sale, everything 20-40% off. Just picked up a bushnell rangefinder for half price.
Clubs everything. Re upped the wedge collection with 3 new vokeys for 150 bucks, total. Tempted to go pick up some more stuff and throw it on eBay. |
Caved the face in on my R11s again and Taylor Made sent me a new R1. Sucks having a new club in the winter!

I can't make it up there until the day after Christmas. No one was ever in that place, either. It, like almost all golf stores (and the prior occupant before EW bought it out) were horrendously overpriced. |
Quote:
I lucked into hitting it at the right time. Pro V's were 20 bucks per box. If you can hit it this weekend, at all possible, do it. The clerk who I became somewhat friends with said everything on the weekend is gonna be like 50-70 percent off. I'm thinking about going back and buying the 5 Scotty's they've got left and just throwing them on Ebay. |
I hate you.
|
If you're needing any rain gear, FJ Nike Adidas, it's crazy cheap too and there was a lot left.
I bought the FJ windbreaker shortsleeve for like 50 bucks and a full FJ rain suit for 100. I went a bit overboard but damn, I bet I saved a grand. Atleast. |
Got a new R1 for the gf for xmas. Hope she likes it
|
Hamas, I don't know if you're looking for anything in particular, but I glanced around at some things they had left that I wasn't really interested in.
All the Callaway stuff is still there, Taylor made and Cleveland as well. Ping was pretty well stocked, but a lot of the iron sets were gone. IIRC, all Cleveland wedges this weekend are 50 bucks. They've got some vokey's left but they're mostly odd degrees. |
Nothing in particular. Just sad.
|
I don't think I'll have to buy a glove, tee, or ball atleast for 2 years now.
It was pretty intense because I've never seen a golf store actually have stuff priced that low. |
A few years ago Golf Warehouse or whatever it was closed on 121&Metcalf. Got some great stuff but after the first week, it was like a rotting carcass of trinkets. The last 3 weeks the place wheezed as people picked through all the divot tools and "keys to chipping" DVDs and driver head covers.
I like Watts, te one in OP is great and has sales. Golfsmith is a travesty that never has sales. The MO side needs more golf shops because currently it seems they're all in Joco |
Ok so I'm moving back up around K.C. in April/May (probably Grandview or Lees Summit) and I want to start taking up golf again seriously...my question is, what are some good courses/clubs to join that won't cost me an arm and a leg?
Willing to drive a bit and it's not like I'm asking for something dirt cheap or whatever but it has to be reasonable...just not real familiar with the golf scene up that way. Thanks. |

So the PGA banned the caddie races on 16. So some of the players have taken to racing up the hole. |
Is anybody here a member at Great Life Golf? Had to drop Lawrence Country Club for awhile until we get all of my wife's medical bills taken care of, but I'm thinking about going that route. Their premier membership for a family starts at $30.00 bucks a month and gets you unlimited access to Abilene & Chisholm Trail in Abilene, Berkshire/Prairie View/Western Hills in Topeka, The Old Elks Club course in Salina, Lake Perry, Desoto, Ottawa, Junction City, Maple Creek/River Oaks in KC, and The Oaks in Leavenworth.
Add another 10 bucks a month, and that gets you access to Shawnee CC in Topeka. Fork out 50 a month, and then you get Ark City, Leavenworth CC, Liberty Hills CC, and Deer Lake down in Springfield. Unlimited green fees, just pay for your cart. Fees include family members, so it looks like a good deal for me and my kids. Question is, are these all goat ranch golf courses?I figure if I play twice a week, and my kids (3 players) play two or three times a week, that turns into a bargain. |

I'm shocked that Hamas doesn't have a swing break down of Chyanne Woods up all ready.

All those courses pretty much are goat farms. But for the price, you can't beat it.

Played all week in Maui. If there is one thing I can do, it's shoot 90 anywhere. Had 5 pars and a birdie. In February. What a beautiful place.
|
Mother Nature can kiss my ass. I'm dying to get out and play.
I've managed two rounds so far this year, both in shitty conditions, obviously. Played Tapawingo here in STL last month and the ground was frozen solid. Shocked the course was even open. Was a challenging round to say the least - was hitting massive drives due to the frozen fairways, but playing approach shots was a trick. Shot one over my career low. Matched my career low the following week in wet, windy conditions. Ready to get out and work to make sure these scores become the norm, and not some sort of fluke. Picked up a 9.5 X Hot Pro driver head in perfect condition for $45. Haven't had a chance to hit it yet - doubt it will knock my RazrFit out of the bag. Anyone making any equipment changes this year? |
I played yesterday. It was nice to get out.
|
The Eisenhower tree was removed yesterday due to the ice storms in the southeast. Major bummer.
Regarding Cheyenne Woods: her swing is a mixture of a one and two plane swing. She takes the club back a bit under plane about half way back, then lifts it almost straight up at the end of the backswing. A good transition allows her to re-route the club on plane and a slight inside path on the way down, and she finishes in perfect balance. |

Read great things last summer about these grips on GolfWrx. Bought one on a whim. http://salty-grips.myshopify.com/ Completely changed my putting at the end of the season. Feel was amazing. For those of you that flyfish, think about the feel/sensitivity the cork provides. It's expensive, but my putting has improved dramatically. |
