Or let him play out this year and then tag him. Then do it again. Then let him go.

Tagging him would be a HUGE mistake! He would get I believe it is 125%? Of the top 5 players at his position. I may be wrong but I know that it would be astronomical to tag him - this is not an option.

This year it would have been just under $19M.

Watched a highlight video of Jones 2022 season and he single-handedly killed 29 drives (defined as causing or recovering a turnover on any down or registering a tackle/sack on any third or fourth down). He may have had more but that is what they showed in the video I saw.

If you figure the average NFL game has 9 drives and we played 20 games that’s a total of 180 drives-ish.

Jones contributed to or outright caused the death of more than 1/6th of all opponent drives last season.

Losing Chris Jones is not going to meaningfully impact our Vegas SB odds.

Losing both our tackles didn't meaningfully impact our LV SB odds either.

How did that turn out?

Let CJ play this year out. Repeat as SB champs. Acquire new DT in free agency. Draft LT. Threepeat. Simple as that.

I am starting to lean towards this. I mean why pay him "handsomely" when he is going to be 30 and he is under contract. Let him play out this years contract and move on from him in 2024. I do want to keep Bolton and Sneed. Look to the draft and FA in 2024. Why give a 30 yro $30 mill plus God only knows "guaranteed" $$$$$ :hmmm:

Im starting to come around to this line of thinking as well.

How much effort do you think will actually go into this season if a new deal isn't signed?

I wouldn't expect seeing 100% of what we are used to seeing from CJ

I'm starting to think that's what's happening.

Sure, show everyone you’ve lost a step as you head to free agency.
