I am 4 hours into Ghost of Tsushima. I dont think it is the masterpiece that some have hyped it up to be. It does have some stunningly beautiful scenery though. The mongols make for good enemies too. The combat mechanics are kind of generic and a bit trite. It is all timing based. distance doesnt play a huge factor in combat. just hit the buttons with the correct timing and everything just kind of teleports to where it needs to be for a cool melee sequence. GoT misses out on the Kamakura periods weapons and yoroi armor. That era had the most beautiful helmets and crests and the weapons were very exotic. I have to play the entire game with a katana? and a half bow?

Big part of the reason I love the Doom series is due to the music genius Mick Gordon. I've mentioned him in the past, but the guy is basically a metal guitar god content with making game music.

Finshed the main story in Diablo 4 last night. Enjoyed it. Pretty much played nothing but D4 the past couple months.

Will say that once I hit level 50, I was pretty unstoppable and didnt die once (not even in the last couple boss fights).

So maybe I did a lot of side missions prior to going up against the big baddies, but I found it a bit easier than expected.

Changed my level to nightmare last night, so we'll see how it goes for the next stuff.

I don't remember if it was rise of the empire or another app game.

But I got addicted to one when I was younger. I never spent a penny on the game other than wasting a ton of time. But was in the top guild for that server. The top players in that guild spent 100k easy.

It was insane but they were basically gods and ran the server. The game was pretty popular and met all kinds of people through the game that you would never expect be wasting their life on app game.

Go here, slay Mongols. Now, go here and slay more Mongols. Oh look, a Fox, lets follow it! Great, now lets go here to slay more Mongols, but WAIT, gotta slay some Mongols on the way there too!

LMAO There are an absolute ****ton of Mongols in that game

I’m like 10 minutes into the DLC and it’s mostly more of the same so I’m giving it a break for now.

Been wanting to start up Horizon Forbidden West but have been spending a little time decompressing with Civ 6.

To me it felt like the exact same game as Zero Dawn. First time on Zero Dawn I did all the quests. Second time I focused more on the main and it ended up ending the game much earlier than I anticipated. Didn't bother to go through and do all those other quests. I was OP well before the ending for the game.

That’s kinda how I saw Forbidden West. I loved Zero Dawn, but was struggling to get into FW for whatever reason. I never beat it, but might try and go back to it.

ThaVirus 06-24-2024 10:28 AM

I figured that was the sentiment based on the fact that I basically didn’t hear anything about it like a week after it was released. Nothing good, nothing bad - no dialogue at all. Usually means the game is just decent.

Question for all the Ghost of Tsushima PC players

do the cancel moves still work on the PC version? I really suck at the melee combat. I need a cheap force kill move. I dont have the patience for perfect parries/riposte nor perfect dodges

Are you stance dancing? The right stance against the right enemy will allow you to just spam your breaker move until they open up for an easy kill.

Also, i took the talent that allows you to rush an enemy with a knock back. Super useful.

And of course the talent that lets you kill 3 Mofo's during a standoff is super useful too.

I love that talent. I do try to get it so I can have a standoff and include the Mongol leaders (non duel ones). Makes killing them much faster.

Yeah just unlocked water stance. I'm not far into the main missions at all. I got the new stance after winning the fight with Ryuzo allied. That should help.

Two of my favorite games are on sale: If anyone likes really deep strategy RTS games (A lot of Paradox Interactive's catalog is on sale, and they do a lot of these types of games).

Stellaris - 70% Off $11.99 - Space Civilization Builder where the game at the end can have a variety of endgames where either AI revolts, or extradimensional invaders, etc, where you better be strong enough to hold them off, or the galaxy will have to unite against a common threat. Great Game. Meanwhile, every species has its own preferred planet types, special traits, origins, etc (And you make your own different species). Last game I played, I came across the 'Sol' System, in which the 3rd planet from the sun was a Tomb World that was irradiated from nuclear fallout. I promptly colonized it (Was playing a machine race, so irradiation didn't effect my people, and thought it was a nice creepy touch to find that in the galaxy)

Europa Universalis 4 - 20% off 11.99 - Game is a War/Econ/Politics/Colonization simulator where you can run any 'house' or nation in the world essentially, whether starting as a native american tribe in 1444 before colonization begins, to Feudal Japan, to the Papal State, or one of the princes of the Holy Roman Empire. Currently playing a game where I united the Irish in the late 1400s to claim Irish Independence from the English and the Irish are the ones who were among the first to colonize the new world.

Already accepted him into my life thank you.

I play a wide variety of games, but RTS is always what I tend to play on PC. When I got a computer first, I was playing Age of Empires, Red Alert, Command & Conquer and the early Civ games. That shit was my jam.

I'm just so used to playing everything else with a controller I guess.

Supreme Commander is the best RTS ever, you need to play that and i'm sure it can be had for peanuts. The modding community has taken over and produced endless maps and game modes/mods for it. It's the Cadillac of RTS games and large scale at that. Civ doesn't fit in that cat bro. ;)

I've been playing it a lot lately... it's crazy good. I think I like Stellaris more, but it's really close. I mean, both are made by Paradox and have the same feel.

EU4 is (I think?) an RTS. You can pause it, but it operates on days, months, years. It's not turn based like Civ, every player/country is operating independently simultaneously. I mean, I guess technically days are 'turns' in a sense, but the clock keeps running unless you pause the game, but now I'm getting into the meaningless minutia

I literally purchased Elden Ring when I purchased my PS5 a few years ago, and literally have yet to play it... I really need to get on that at some point lol.

I did play through the new Robocop game recently and had a blast.

I just bought it but haven’t been able to play it yet. I’ve got every major boss in the base game down except for Malenia. Never been more frustrated with a souls boss.

It's definitely worth it. The learning curve is a bit steep, so make sure you do the tutorial. (A number of things go quite in depth, I've had it in my Steam Library for about a year, finally dound time to start playing it about a month ago) and you'll find yourself googling things sometimes, but the community always seems willing to answer questions and the wiki is quite thorough.

Yep, go to the DLC first and get pumped there, then return and exact revenge on Melania. I've only got two more main story bosses to go in the DLC then I'm going back to take her out, then replay the main game and DLC but demolish everything to make me feel better.

That waterfowl bladedurry attack she has is some BS. Somebody at Fromsoftware has a sick sense of humor. I will eventually get my vengeance on her though.

so... Ghost of Tsushima; I got a lot better at the combat. Unlocking stances makes it much easier. I havent died in combat in a while. the best technnique in the game is the dodge cancel. its a viable strategy vs all enemies except leaders with a shield. I think it looks cool as hell uppercutting an enemy in the ribs 3 times in a second

Sassy Squatch 07-04-2024 04:27 PM

Elden Ring DLC really isn't all that fun to me. Fromsoft leaned way too far into the tedious for the sake of it difficulty on top of it just being incredibly difficult in general. Most bosses have well over 30k HP, and a good handful are well over 40k. Modders have put the final boss of the DLC at base level against NG+7 variants of base game bosses and more often than not the DLC boss wins. Just too overtuned ATM.

Yeah the stance dancing is uber important. So is your armor sets and charm loadouts. Next thing i aim to unlock is the burning blade oil.

Im still in Act 2...the beginning of it. Been using most of time to collect items and doing the smaller side quests etc. Haven't really worried about the main storyline.

The way i see it: Once i finish the main storyline I may not want to return to the game. So i'll do all the side content first and slooowly progress through the main story.

Looks cool but any game that says free to play means pay to win.

If these gaming companies would charge $100 for a game with everything both present and future included I'd more more inclined to purchase said game. Instead they nickel and dime you to death with microtransactions and DLC.

The good thing with being so far behind on gaming like myself is that by the time you find something interesting there's plenty of honest reviews.

I'll play Fallout New Vegas for the 3rd time and be more entertained while knowing exactly what I'm getting before half the new releases.

Ya for the most part I'm pretty much done with buying new games. With that being said, I am definitely getting NCAA football but I know what to expect. All of the games that take up my gaming time are 10 year old games. They just don't make new games anymore that will stand the test of time.

Right now I'm back on world of tanks, 10+ year old game lol. It's such a good game though. Then I'll be playing NCAA and maybe the new Path of Exile league, another 10 year old game. 95% of AAA games coming out just are flat out garbage and there's nothing innovative or anything that feels new anymore.

I had fun in Boarderlands.

Loved Tiny Tiny and the rest of over the top characters.

I'm having a ton of fun and haven't spent a dime, it's not PVP. Pay for convenience but I'll just play for free and let the whales carry the game. You can get pretty much anything without spending money and the best character in the game(most overpowered) you get within 2 hours of doing the quests. You also unlock an ultimate weapon for her right after, so you really don't have to spend anything. I don't pay for cosmetics so no reason to spend money here.

Wireless controllers are like cell phones. We grew up without it, we functioned fine, but I cannot fathom how we did it.

Lets not pretend that consoles weren't getting yanked off of table tops around the country.

I honestly haven't played much of Crusader Kings... I tried playing CK3 but couldn't really get into it, so I honestly couldn't tell you the differences. Sorry to be of little help.

I remember my first wireless controller. For the Gamecube. Took 2 AAs and burned through that in seemingly like 4 hours. And the only reason I bought it was because it was on sale used and cheap at Vintage Stock. Crazy how much the industry has changed.

DJJasonp 07-09-2024 04:00 PM

wired controllers (i.e. Atari) was why we had to sit so close to the TV to play games!

I play games with a joystick/game pad. I'm not writing a term paper - I'm enjoying a game. It's not complicated.

Having 20 different keys to a game makes it that way. Keep everything in reach in a small area. One of your 8 buttons can be a shift key and the other 7 now have secondary functions. Moving my character with U/D/L/R keys will never feel natural or enjoyable to me.

I'm fine with that stuff in a Sim City or point and click game. I get it. That's the one time a joystick is truly cumbersome. Games are what I do to enjoy my time and forget about work - acting like I'm doing this for a living and I need that extra 3/4ths a second defeats the purpose.

For those that have played Elden Ring........is it more Souls-like, or Bloodborne-like?

It looks interesting....

Definitely Souls.

Pretty frustrating seeing how promising College Football 25 looks. EA is capable of making a decent football sim, they've just been lazy and complacent.

It looks gud

We should have a CP tournament.

Bump 07-13-2024 06:37 PM

reading around about college football 25, sounds like it's incredibly easy to cheese the AI to getting good recruits. I for one will resist that urge, cheesing in a single player franchise is not my thing. Hopefully one of those madden guys from operation sports comes out with good realistic sliders as I will be using those to make it more challenging too.

I'm probably going to dabble in the ultimate team to see if it's any good first but will inevitably switch to dynasty and I guess I'll have to rock KU.

I'm the same as you and I also never play online. Just dynasty mode by myself.

Bearcat 07-16-2024 07:58 PM

I skipped through much of it, but this video doesn't give me the warm fuzzies... it's exactly what I did years ago with KU football, I could win a NC in 3 years. He wins a bowl game in year two... using a team that was FCS a couple seasons ago.

The first game he plays is everything I remember about EA football, except usually you're the team that goes up big and then has to hold on.

And then the guy gets to the NC and who's he playing.... ****ing Iowa State. LMAO

I've played it (I'm on Xbox) and I think it's really fun. I think it's worth the buy.

I've played a couple of online games, but haven't jumped into online dynasty yet. It feels like a classic NCAA game.

I would recommend it. Buy it and I'll play all of you online.

Apparently you can't edit damn near anything for players currently. Literally their equipment only. Unless that's just until the day one patch or something this game is going to die out very fast

I remember somebody telling me about it once, and I'm always up for new stuff. I'll grab it and give it a shot!

Every game is so different too. It can have such wild variances it's like a new game every time

No clue, but it's ****ing awesome. Haven't played it in years so I'm sure it's tuned even better now. Have had some chill games and some with crazy ass battles with the Ottomans or full coalitions against me in games I've gotten to greedy. The game really punishes you in a lot of ways if you try to overextend your empire too quickly.

Recruiting is supposedly completely broken which would completely ruin it since I like to start cupcake and SLOW build into a powerhouse

Sassy Squatch 07-17-2024 09:04 AM

Yeah, it's pretty fundamentally broken in nearly all aspects. The gameplay itself seems decent enough for prelaunch but recruiting, simming, and even the logic for ranking/CFBP seems completely ****ed at the moment.
