Pretty fascinating storm.
I'm more worried about losing power due to the high winds than anything.

Blizzard warning issued for KC area; goes into effect Tuesday night

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning lasting from 9 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday.

The warning includes parts of northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri, and it includes Wyandotte, Johnson, Platte, Clay, Jackson, Harrison, Daviess, Clinton, Caldwell, Ray, and Leavenworth counties.

A powerful storm system will move across the region Tuesday through Wednesday, bringing multiple hazards to the area.

It will get colder and very windy after midnight on Wednesday. The National Weather Service said we could have 60-70 mph wind gusts, creating blizzard conditions.

Every time the wind blows over 10mph I ask myself what my ancestors saw in this god forsaken state and how they put up with it with far less technology than i have.

Cant have a nice day in Kansas without 25mph+ wind in the spring/fall.

I read the book Cow People by Frank Dobie who is a really cool author of the old west. One of the stories mentioned a lady in Kansas (early settler) that blew her head off with a shotgun and the note she left read "Can't stand listening to the wind anymore"

Something you can’t unhear: the wind blowing at certain speeds sounds just like ocean waves.

Remember the mini series Centennial. The lady killer herself and her family during the dust bowl becuase of the wind and dirt everywhere.

There are schools closing for tomorrow already, and we have not received snow yet.

Why Not? 03-04-2025 04:59 PM

Guess I'm weird, but I love the sound of high winds. Obviously would prefer no one gets hurt or suffers structural damage but when it's nice and windy and those things aren't occurring, I'm in. Caveat is I need to be indoors hearing it. **** being outside when it is really windy.

GabyKeepsMeWarm 03-04-2025 05:19 PM

Mother nature off her meds again. This is stupid.

Holladay 03-04-2025 08:08 PM

Warming up the chain saw for tomorrow:( I am glad I have a fire place...

displacedinMN 03-05-2025 10:10 AM

Around 6 inches of snow--some areas to the S and E had more.

Wind was good.

We had an Async day of learning but others cancelled. We do not have a lot of busses, most families and kids drive. So a lot of private schools do ASYNC days, so the kids do not have be on the roads.

I am waiting for the plows to go though before I clean the my and my neighbors driveway. (the one I like-60F) She does not need to do it.

Still have work to do. Get the taxes together. Correct papers.

This has been the most schizophrenic winter I can remember, its either ten below zero and blowing snow, or a balmy 50-60

Praying for a quick and warm spring like we had around here in 2012, it hit 80 on St Patties and never dipped below 70 after that... farmers hated it because we had a terrible drought that year, but thats why they have insurance

We had that shit here yesterday and a shitload of rain. Thankfully all the tornadoes were south and west. I went out this morning and wandered the property and was shocked I have no trees down. Pines are bad about ground soaked and high winds.

It's 79 here with 40mph winds. From the looks of the radar, I'm guessing it's going to stay west and South of us for the most part. We are barely in the watch area. That would be right in line with the mesoscale discussion Displaced posted a couple of hours ago.

All our windows have vertical blinds, and on a windy day they blow so bad that I have open them completely and then tie them together. Also, my den has a south facing window, and if I open the blinds the sunlight hits my monitor screen to the point that I can barely see anything. Plus, my marriage is basically my wife downstairs yelling shit up at me and me yelling "WHAT?" in response, and nobody walking outside wants to hear that. Throw in three cats who like to tear the shit out of the screens, and I pretty much keep the windows closed. :D
