Congrats to Moose on a great career...and finishing the right way.
Those were fun teams! |
I have bought one players jersey in my adult life. Moose in 2013. Those were some of the most fun years of baseball that I don't think I'll ever experience again.
|
Is it me or are some of these guys like moose and hoz overated. People act like they hit 500 homeuns. Cain and Gordon are fine.

So yeah, we probably overrate them compared to how the rest of MLB would view them But that's the point of being a fan and putting your heart into a team. |
I mean, we'll all remember Leo Chenal more fondly after he's retired than most people will. Help win us a few chips and we'll love you forever.
Hos and Moose are that way for me--- they won when I'd never seen us win at that level (born in 1983) so they're beloved. |
Heyman wrote that royals tried to sign Adam Duvall (blech) for a million bucks but he turned us down, saying he'd only play for three million or retire.
MFer hit a buck eighty two last year. Don't threaten us with a good time. |

Chances Jonathan India has a career season with Bobby Witt Jr protecting him?
He kinda sucks but I see no reason we can't expect .840 ops |
Royals had a combined .269 OBP from leadoff hitters last year.
India, who 'sucks', has a career OBP of .352. In his two seasons where he stayed healthy and played 150+ games, his OBP was .366 He will help tremendously, no matter how you look at it. We don't need him to have a career season, just replicate his ROY performance from 2021 and this offense will be rolling all year long. Assuming Vinnie can rebound and not just be a cardboard cutout with a stick, like he was when he returned from injury last year. His spring training AB's have not looked good, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now as he has proved he can hit at a high level in the past. But I'm way more concerned about Vinnie's performance going forward than I am India's. |

If India stays healthy, he's going to score 120+ runs.
The Royals leadoff spot produced 97 runs in about 750 PA last year, with a .270 OBP. With a .360 OBP, that's going to add a LOT of runs. |

I'm wracking my brain... Has KC ever really developed a true power hitter outside of maybe Bo Jackson before? Could Jac be the first to really make the leap and be a consistent threat out of the gate and for years to come?
Imagine if by some miracle, Jac turns into our version of an Aaron Judge type. Now imagine Jac and BWJ in the same lineup for several of their prime years together. Boner. |
As far as I'm concerned, Caglianone can't get here soon enough.

But the reality is muted. This dude won’t see MLB action at the earliest until 2026. If he’s destroying the minor leagues in 2025, and Vinnie, Salvy are playing well, then Jac might make for an addition. |
Quote:
But keep in mind that fellow collegians Cam Smith of the Astros (Florida State) and Christian Moore of the Angels (Tennessee) look like they are going to debut in the first half of the big league season and they were taken in the same draft class. Player development has changed, too. If a highly-touted pitcher is throwing zeros in the high minors, teams don't want to waste their bullets on meaningless games and they are promoted to the majors. As a result, Triple-A pitching become so watered down that there's a thought process that the only way a hitter is going to learn how to hit major league pitching is to face the filth the big league hurlers are throwing these days. |
Question for the minor league experts on here:
Where does Caglianone start the season? Looking at the NWA schedule for April. Any chance he's there if I see them play? |

I’m as pumped as anyone to see Jac turn into an all-star type, let alone an MVP type of player, but the realistic/cynic side of me has just seen this shit too many times for me to go “all in”. But **** me…. As I mentioned before…. If Jac turns into the real deal that we’re all hoping for, having him and BWJ in the lineup during their prime years is gonna cook. And that’s gonna be a lot of fun. If he can play a competent RF, and if Salvy has enough in the tank for another all-star type season, plus a few more solid years, plus Vinnie, potentially Massey, MJ, Maikel and India…. We just might have something special. |
I hope the bottom is Aaron judge because judge sucks when itmatters most. We need a Big Papi type of bat

His record didn't last long cause it was broken the next year. By Jac Caglianone! Real issue is gonna be his K-rate. I fear he could end up being Joey Gallo 2.0. But that's his absolute floor sir! |
Peak Joey Gallo averaged 4.0 WAR, 40 HR’s and around 200 K’s per year. I’d take that considering he’d be slotted in a lineup behind India, Witt and Vin. LOT of RBI opportunities there.
I mean, obviously I’d prefer a better comp. than Joey Gallo, but if that’s all we ever get then I can live with that. |
I been thinking Gallo too but that has to be his floor. right?
.194 career average for Joey |
Quote:
Last year in the SEC he had one of the lower K rates of the conference leaders in OPS. This is after cutting it almost in half from the following year. His strike out rate was around 20% last year in his first year ever of using a wooden bat and actually was on the lower end of everyone on the Quad Cities team. Compare that to Blake Mitchell who K'd 35%, Nivens 27% and Jensen at 22%. Alex Gordon also had a 20% Milb strikeout rate so not worried about the swing and miss. |
Quote:
|
Yeah, I don't see Caglianone as a three outcomes guy at all.
He has a tendency to swing outside the zone, but he also is enormous and is able to make good and hard contact outside the zone. Kind of like Perez. He's quite a bit more advanced in his approach than Perez, though, from everything I've heard and the at-bats I've seen him take. |
Great comp, Dunc

Hopefully. the X-Rays come out clean. If not, BWJ may out until July (worst case).

If Salvy is still elite this year I will eat my hat.
I hope I have to eat my hat. |

I can see him starting around 90 games at catcher this year and probably next before transitioning into a full time backup. Timing-wise, that should work out great, as by then someone of the Mitchell, Jensen or Ramirez will be ready to take the reigns as the primary backstop. Rotate Salvy in as DH and occasional 1B, and he should still get plenty of AB's for the next few years if he's still productive. Might not hurt if he were to take some reps at 3rd. With BWJ at short, Salvy's limited range at 3rd wouldn't make him a total liability, and he certainly has the arm for the position. |

I still can't imagine we would lose more games with jac batting 7th or 8th and keeping renfroe, isbel, Garcia or Melendez on the bench. I get the concept of not hindering his development at the expense of throwing him to the wolves, however.
