I think Chao was the Chargers' team doctor which either makes him the most experienced doctor in the world in dealing with sports injuries, or the worst doctor in the world at preventing them

The positive angle is that Mahomes will be forced to develop some chemistry with other players. Travis won't be there forever. Long term I want to see Mahomes keep developing as a QB. This could be a good thing for him in the long run, even if it sucks in the short term.

If Mahomes/Reid are able to gain some new chemistry & trust with other receivers while Travis is out, Kelce becomes a really nice luxury to add to this team later in the season. Similar to how Toney was injured last year, but made a couple of massively important plays in the Super Bowl.

chefs fan in omaha 09-05-2023 03:13 PM

With Julie Frymyer, the Chiefs have the best trainer in the NFL. Look at how fast she got Mahomes ankle healed up to play.

Monticore 09-05-2023 03:20 PM

Depending on severity he could play with a brace

So the Chiefs "believe" the ACL is intact? I didn't think inflammation hurts MRI images?

What a weirdly worded update lol.

Actually, lack of scoring enough points is the only reason any team loses. They didn't score more than their opponents.

Kiimo 09-05-2023 03:33 PM

It is believed that Kelce's head is also intact on his body. We'll know more before game time.

Chris Jones' test for the same were inconclusive

TLO 09-05-2023 03:37 PM

They believe his ACL is intact? That isn't the most reassuring wording

Hammock Parties 09-05-2023 03:38 PM

It could be extremely good wording. If it's intact that means nothing was torn, and a strain is a partial tear.

carcosa 09-05-2023 03:39 PM

It is objectively true that Travis Kelce still has two legs

staylor26 09-05-2023 03:40 PM

Schefter is just making his tweet more dramatic because Rapoport beat him to it.

FlaChief58 09-05-2023 03:41 PM

I'm glad they didn't amputate. I don't think he would've been ready to go on Thursday

Dunerdr 09-05-2023 03:44 PM

Believe it’s intact will test tomorrow so he can maybe play. If you think he can maybe play it’s more intact.

Why Not? 09-05-2023 03:46 PM

Good news. I’d be inclined to not risk it Thursday. Kris Wilson or Sean McGrath or whatever could go for 90 and a TD vs Detroit. WBF.

Chris Meck 09-05-2023 03:49 PM

The only thing wrong with Noah Gray is that he plays on a team with Travis Kelce.

No, he's not a one to one replacement, nobody is, but we'll be fine.

This. Also, consider Andy Reid is 8-1 on opening day while with the Chiefs. Campbell is 0–2 as a head coach. (Other than a win against the Commanders, Campbell has lost the first 8 games or more of his 2 seasons as HC.)

The ACL is the primary ligament associated with forward/backward stability, and when you hear "hyperextension", it is the primary fear from it.

This is really good news, it seems.

I saw something from the NFL medical expert or whatever guy Dr David Ciao. He said that with an injury like that worst case is ACL, best case is bone bruise. So I'm sure that got a lot of people concerned. Actually his quote was worst case, a 3 letter word that starts with A. But obviously, that's what he was implying. Glad to hear that it wasn't worst case

I haven't looked through the 309 or so comments on the thread as thoroughly as I should have. Don't want to be a conspiracy theorist but... We don't actually need Kelce for this first game. You probably need Jones but I get that we're in no rush to sign him. With the longer season and a non-divisional/conference game to start - Andy/Bert view this game is free money. Hell, with the elongated season, they are willing to accept getitng blown out in the season opener in order to further evaluate, negotiate and strategize. They can treat it like a preseason game
Kelce maybe tweaked his knee or actually damaged it. No problem, give us another week to evaluate and strategize. Same with Jones. Andy will find a way to win or learn from it. Nobody is going perfect this season.
