shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh don't tell Scotty!
Louis Riddick ✔ @LRiddickESPN Looking at the @Raiders up close and personal today, let me assure you of this: this team is light years more talented than their team from 2018. They have athletes all over the field and a nice blend of young sprinkled with experience. They are no doubt my “surprise” team ‘19. |
They’ll surprise a lot of people if they win more than 4 games.

Watching the raid and drinks implode is magical. If the Chargers lay a rotten egg this year, it'll be the perfect trifecta. I'm not sure how I'll react if we win it all on top of that this year

These are the Raiders' first 7 games of the regular season:
Denver Kansas City @ Minnesota @ Indianapolis Chicago (in London) BYE @ Green Bay @ Houston I'd say AT BEST they'll be 3-4 to start the season. More than likely that's a 2-5 stretch. Distinct possibility they could be 1-6. To be nice to them, let's assume they start 3-4. So they have to at MINIMUM go 6-3 the rest of the way to go 9-7, which is typically the minimum to making the playoffs, and even then it's not guaranteed. They have to go 6-3 against: Detroit LA Chargers Cincinnati @ New York Jets @ Kansas City Tennessee Jacksonville @ LA Chargers @ Denver I don't see it happening. They'll pick up some wins in there, but I don't see 6 of them. And that's assuming they managed to fart out 3 wins in the first 7 games. |
That's a pretty tough schedule. I dont' know that I see more than 4 wins there. And that's being a bit optimistic.
|
Quote:
I could see 6 or maybe 7 if the team really comes together and plays better than their talent level. I could also see like an 0-4 start leading to a full implosion and a 2-14 record. |
They'll be better on offense I think, they've got talent there if Carr can play well.
Defensively the DB's are pretty good really, but that front 7 is just awful. |
Looking at that schedule, if EVERYTHING goes perfectly for them, they win 6 games. But realistically I see 4 wins
|

He claims the NFL is arbitrarily applying rules. |

Considering no Raiders starters played at all, can't take much from anything from the preseason. Hell, I think the Raiders starting offense has two series, one in each of the first games, and both went for TD's. That won't continue in the regular season. Still going to be the most improved offense in the NFL. With the Colts losing Luck, I'm now predicting 8-8 for the Raiders as the most likely scenario with 9-7 an outside chance. |

I hate 2019.... Antonio Brown found out Sunday that his second grievance against the NFL in an effort to wear his preferred choice of helmet, the Schutt AiR Advantage, this upcoming season was rejected. While it appeared he was simply making a mountain out of a molehill with this ongoing helmet disagreement, the Oakland Raiders star wide receiver has made this molehill of an issue into a mountain of cash. ProFootballTalk reports Brown will choose from multiple companies that are creating a customized helmet for him, and they will even pay for him to wear it. Brown's primary complaint about the newly certified helmets was that they protrude out and interfere with his vision when he tries to catch the football. While the 10-year-old Schutt AiR Advantage—the helmet he has worn throughout his career—didn't present these problems, the NFL could no longer approve it because, in compliance with their National Operating Committee for Standards and Athletic Equipment policy, the league wouldn't allow players to wear a helmet older than 10 years. Brown’s agent Drew Rosenhaus revealed in an interview on SiriusXM NFL radio earlier Sunday that their public dispute ended with "a happy ending" that will conclude with him "getting paid a lot of money." |

Holy crap, I just saw that Sammy Watkins cap hit is $4,241,667 MORE than Antonio Brown's hit in 2019.
That's insane. |
Quote:
When all is said and done the Chiefs will have paid about $34 million for Watkins over 2 years; the Raiders will end up paying about $33 million for Brown over 2 years. Y'all paid a little less for a better player. But we'll be paying what we're paying for a player that can alter our trajectory in the post-season and who could be instrumental in bringing a Lombardi to Kansas City. You'll be paying what you're paying for a guy who could take you to 7 wins instead of 5. So in terms of benefit per unit spent, I'm gonna say the Chiefs came out WELL ahead of the Raiders. Y'all are as irrelevant with Brown as you are without him. Well that's not entirely true - you're a little more relevant with Brown, but only in the same manner as being more relevant if your DC insisted on coaching every game with his dick hanging out. You're pretty much just a funny little side show that the teams that matter point and laugh at. So Antonio's little helmet/foot issue has at least brought you guys some attention for a few weeks before the real games start and y'all are as quickly forgotten as the Buccaneers. |
Quote:
Wouldn’t shock me if the Chiefs took another receiver in the second or third next year as well. Need to keep Mahomes stocked with weapons. |
Quote:
You could have picked up a WR for half what you paid Watkins and got the same benefit. Tyrel Williams for example is at least as good as Watkins, and getting about 58% of what you paid Watkins. That other 8 MILLION dollars more that you over paid Watkins could be a pretty good defender that may have made the difference in a Superbowl appearance last year, or this year. |
Tyrell Williams is “at least as good as Watkins”?
LMAO Get a ****ing clue moron. |
I do think Tyrell is a good WR, nice #2.
He's not a potential 1 though, Watkins is. Watkins is all about health, but when we're paying our QB peanuts, it's fine. |
Quote:
And the idea that Williams is as good as Watkins barely warrants mentioning. Just like the Raiders. |
Quote:
In 2019, we are paying Patrick Mahones 89.6k per 2018 TD pass. You could've picked up another QB to throw a glowing 19 TDs for you last year and probably paid him half as much. Then you could've used that other ~11mm you overpaid for Carr and filled out the depth on your talent-less roster. See how easy it is to cherrypick? Those with Derek Carr at QB shouldn't throw stones. |
Quote:
OT's take a bit to develop and if you want options to potentially replace Fisher if he's asking too much, you need to get ahead of the curve. So you draft one next year (and probably another interior OL) and then maybe even another 1st or 2nd day the year after that to address Schwartz. I'm wondering if the Chiefs didn't see what just happened to Indy and see the dark specter of what could be if they focus too much on toys. Yes, it's important to keep Mahomes well-stocked; it's more important to keep him intact. |
Quote:
Quote:
However, on Watkins, when was he last a legit #1? His inability to stay healthy is why he simply isn't a #1 WR. Look at his career stats. http://www.nfl.com/player/sammywatki...57/careerstats Look at the numbers Tyrell Williams put up the year he was the last WR standing in San Diego. Williams career stats http://www.nfl.com/player/tyrellwill...13/careerstats |
Quote:
But you've gotta always have him stocked. |
Quote:
|
Quote:
Williams had a great year in 16 IIRC, but he's never really had to be the guy that draws the #1. |
Quote:
He still put up better numbers than Watkins in 17 & 18 while being the 3rd WR in San Diego. |
Quote:
|
Quote:
A stronger defense gives Mahomes the ability to play a more controlled style that won't necessarily be less productive - it will simply keep him from taking as many hits. There are many ways to keep Mahomes healthy but it's probably most critical to maintain a balance all around. If you become overloaded one direction or another, you're going to start undermining some of your gains. |
Quote:
In an ideal setting, there will be some ebbs and flows with it. Look at the Pats for instance. There are years they're more offensively inclined, and years where the D carries a little more. Due to the cap and draft and all the moving parts, you've just gotta be able to flow with the changes. |
Quote:
They have to address CB - they just do. They've let that position atrophy to the point that things will get WORSE next year. They cannot continue to hope/pray that it cleans itself up. And the Luck situation, the FA of Fisher in a couple years, the unsteadiness on the interior and the fact that Schwartz is approaching his decline years means that they've gone light on addressing the OL for as long as they can/should as well. Street FAs, waiver pickups, lotto tickets and late round draft picks is all they've really done on the OL since 2016 and that's far more runway than they could reasonably expect to have. It's time to put some capital into the OL and the CB. They're gonna spend huge cap money to keep Hill, they used a 2nd on Hardman, they've used a 3rd on Conley, a 4th on Hardman, they threw a luxury item contract at Watkins. Over the last 3-4 years they've put a HELL of a lot more at toys. They're more fun, but the fun has gone on long enough now. Time for someone to be an adult in the room and say "okay, we've used ours lack on the OL and CB; let's meaningfully address it now..." |
Quote:
I would go pretty heavy on both ASAP. A developmental tackle would probably have to come in the 1st or 2nd round, sadly it seems you probably have to wait til you need one to take one there. But next years draft should probably go some combo of CB, T, and C. Fill in the rest however you need to. It's also kind of why I was trying to justify the Hill trade speculation. He's so god damn good that I don't think you can do it, but I can atleast see the side where it might make some sense. |
