Without Rivers, the Chargers would be the Browns. |
I read SF might cut Ahmad Brooks to save some money if their young guys work out. If it happens I hope we sign him for depth.

Chiefs QB Alex Smith will collect a $2M reporting bonus for showing up to training camp today, by far the largest such bonus in the NFL. |

***** 2017 Chiefs Training Camp Megathread *****
Cool, that means football is nigh, but **** me if training camp isn't a ****ing tease.
|
Quote:
I'm going to camp for a couple days next week, though...so I'll have some thoughts posted when I get there. |
training camp is fun to hear and read about for about 5 days. after that, I'm ready for it and pre-season to be over with.

Maybe in the past but 2PM is here now. |
Will anyone report when Mahomes hits Tyreek in camp in that formation from the playoff game where he was wide open?
I also want to hear about Alex Smith's physical reaction on the sidelines to a QB finding an open receiver down field. I'll offer double rep for the report. Thanks. |

Per Terez Paylor
The #Chiefs have signed Bryan Witzmann to a contract extension, the club announces. |

I'm feeling a Jah Reid cut on the horizon
|
Witzmann just made the roster, then. Could this spell the end for Jah Reid?

Veach making moves! I like it
|
The thing is, I don't think Jah Reid saves us much cap in 2017. He does in 2018, however.
|
Quote:
I stated just yesterday that Reid should be cut and replaced by a guy like Witzmann. 24 hours later... |
Hopefully Veach makes a habit of extending guys early, ala Peters/Morse/Jones etc.

Per Terez Paylor
Witzmann's extension is for an additional year (through 2018), per a source. |

According to Terez Paylor, Witzmann split first team reps at left guard with Fulton at OTAs. Perhaps he is competing for that job as well? Maybe Reid isn't gone just yet.

It's possible for players to emerge from the 3-4 year practice squad-and-cut cycle and turn into starter-quality players. Ron Parker is a clear example on our own team of just that.
I'm... still not going to hold my breath on Witzmann, though. It's nice that he's been with the team already as an inactive player every week, but when you've traveled that much and been tossed around that much, it's rare for guys to just find not only that 2nd-life gear that occurs when everything clicks for them, but also to find the OPPORTUNITY to demonstrate it. And yeah, he's splitting first team reps now. Great for him. We've seen that before with Eric Kush and Rishaw Johnson. OL just seems to be one of those positions where just because it's MORE common to find diamonds-in-the-rough for that position group over others, it doesn't mean that every guy who comes along as an undrafted free agent and has plus size/strength/whatever attributes will be your next starting OG. |
Quote:
Eric Kush started for the Bears last year. I realize that they weren't a good team but he is a legit NFL player. Clearly, the Chiefs invested in Morse so there wasn't room for Kush. |
Can he play tackle as well? I'm not sure the reason for Reid sticking around, he doesn't seem that gold
|
I know passing over Rodgers is one of the biggest misses in team history, but man DJ is an all timer.
He's one of my favorite Chiefs ever. |

6'7, 320. He seems a bit tall for a guard but apparently, he can play low. |

Clifford is waxed and ready for the season.
I will miss a few games this year on chat. Kid 1 is at North Dakota State and made the dance team. We will be coming back home during a few of the games. But at least I can listen in the truck. |

I'm guessing the 1st play in 11-on-11's today is a bomb to Hill. Followed by the annual post game presser that we plan to open up the offense this year. Rinse and repeat. Same ol' same ol'.
